header help

I do appologise please don`t think lazy of me.
i am admitingly new to this, and i have been trying to sort this out my self for 3 day almost solid but im out.
i have read, added custom files, tried everything i can but i am well and truely stuffed.

i have made a header which is jpg. but when i add it to the relivent files i notice in the section where it says type it has text/x-generic not image/x-generic
could this be my problem i must be close, but i really am on the verge of giving up i have read all the tuts, but call me dumb i really don`t know please help

Re: header help

BACKUP THE FILE BEFORE CHANGING*

you need to edit the file

includes\templates\template_default\common\tpl_header.php

How much of the header are you changing, just the logo, or all of the navigation links

Re: header help

That would be a Japanese torii gate and you replace it by editing the line in your stylesheet highlighted below to point to your new image> #logoWrapper{

background-image: url(../images/header_bg.jpg);
background-repeat: repeat-x;
background-color: #ffffff;
height:75px;
}

Re: header help

Please read the tutorials/FAQ for the method of setting up the template overrides or you customizations will be overwritten when you upgrade.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Although the torii may be look slightly mystical, the image is very real and so is the code that causes it to be displayed on your site. You just haven't found it.

Do you have a link to your site, so that we can see exactly where it's located?

Re: header help

Your stylesheet is
includes/templates/classic/css/stylesheet.css

and the styling to which I drew your attention earlier is right there at line 196.

However, you should take seriously Kim's comments about reading up on using template overrides, otherwise you will be liable to lose any changes that you make.

Also, even at this early stage you have validation errors creeping in breaking the structure of your site. I'd recommend keeping an eye on them and fixing them as you go.

tonyIn which case you need to change your template to the custom one via Admin > Tools > Template Selection

tonyI can't see anything in the questions you've asked, or issued you've raised in this thread that would be affected by switching anything from repeat-x to no-repeat.

no it did`nt work i was just reading other threads and another guy had a simular issue and you advised to do that.
you havent lead me wrong so far:D

but on second inspection maybe i have mucked up the override as in admin/tools/teplate selection there is no custom to select.

what do you recon i will post my layout in 2 mins

Re: header help

I'm new too but I was able to change mine quite easily. Just go to:

/ public_html / includes / templates / classic / images /

Then you will see header_bg.jpg
You must save your new image the exact same name and over ride it when you upload to the same place.

If you're image is bigger I have no idea how to change that, lol, that's actually why I'm on here tonight.

Re: header help

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply fer but it was advised strongly not to do that and to do it via the overide system as in the case of future updates it could muck things up a bit but if i get no joy i think i will be forced to do it that way.
