Products & Categories Aren't Showing But Database Is Full. Please Help.

This is what happened a few months ago...

It has happened again on Tuesday evening where the all the categories and products are gone and don't show up in either the website or the backend/admin.

A friend who works on the site has checked and there seems to be 'nothing' wrong and all the database is full with the products and categories.

We would just restore a backup but what we thought was getting backed up every night has turned out to be empty files.

We're now at a major problem and really don't know what to do. The website is my only job and income and the fact that all the products and categories aren't showing makes it some what useless at the moment.

Any help would be very gratefully received.

Just heard back from the hosting company, Hosting Unlimited, and they don't have any backups of the site either. Does anyone know what i can do or is it a lost?

Check the configure.php files on the server:
/includes/configure.php
/admin/includes/configure.php

are they using the same database and server information as that you are looking at via phpMyAdmin?

How records are in the tables:
products
products_description
categories
categories_description
products_to_categories

I've looked at the PHPmyadmin and those records are there but when looking at the 'products' it has very few in and they look like old products that we deleted from the site a while ago.

I can't seem to find the /includes/configure.php

Using your FTP program you need to find your configure.php file to know what database is being used on your site ...

This should be in a directory like:
/public_html/includes/configure.php

When in your phpMyAdmin, is there just 1 database or several databases?

How many records are in each of the tables I posted?

Found the configure and in the file is as follows...

There's 2 databases, bubbles_perfnewdb (102) and information_scheme (17).

Well that is bad ... you do not have enough information in the database to even begin to produce categories and products ... :eek:

All you currently have are Products in the products table which holds things like products_id, products_image and products_price ... but you have nothing for the products_name, products_description etc.

You have no categories nor categories descriptions and you have no relationships between Products and Categories in the products_to_categories table ...

How did you originally add your Products and Categories to your site?

Check the post above your reply Linda, what is your opinion on this? To me it looks about right as to the amount of products i use to have.

You now appear to have mismatched table names and in the zen_zen_ set of tables, you have mismatched products to products_descriptions ...

Your tables are really out of sorts and you still do not know what your configure.php file(s) are saying ...

Now it is important to figure out if you are using table prefixes ...

102 tables is not the default number of tables and it is not proportional to being a double set of tables where one set has prefixes and the other does not ...

More or less ... you are in a real mess here ... :cry:

Do you have any good backups or someone who knows how to work with database tables to see if it can be salvaged?

When looking in the zen_zen_products i can see all the products and all the info about them.

In the configure it does mention define('DB_DATABASE', 'bubbles_perfnewdb');.

We have no backups as what we thought was backing up has turned out to be just empty files for each day.

I have a friend who helped me with the site and knows a lot about Zen Cart and who fixed it the last time it happened but this time round even he is stuck :no:

I really don't know what to do, this is a total disaster!

I've noticed that the number of zen_products + number of zen_zen_products_descriptions = number of zen_zen_products

First, make a backup of your database ...

Second, you may want to post in the Commercial Help Wanted as this is not something anyone is going to be able to walk you thru to fix and you will need help and probably a couple or three hours or so to sort out this mess ...

Next to the files i can see options like drop and search but don't want to start pressing things incase i make it worse. I've put a post up so i'll see what happens. Thanks again.

When in the admin/backend, on the statistics it shows as 'Products: 83' but yet dosn't show any of them on the site or in the Categories/Products. This number matches the the records number in the 'zen_products' table of the phpmyadmin database, i just thought this was strange.

Why are even these products not showing up i wonder?

I can see all the products and descriptions in the zen_zen_products and zen_zen_product_descriptions.

Is there no way of doing anything to them so that they show again in the admin/backend and on the site?

You have to find out what the prefixes are that "should" be the real tables for products
products_description
categories
categories_description
products_to_categories

It sounds like somewhere along the way they got switched to prefixes or not prefixes and the real stuff is in one set or the other ...

Without actually working on this to try to resolve the problem, I cannot tell you the best way to go to fix this ...

Did you import your products or something? Or change from prefixes to no prefixes or no prefixes to prefixes?

At the moment if i go into the backend/admin and add a product or categorie it shows up in the zen_categories and zen_products but doesn't change anything in the zen_zen_products.

I've found out that the prefix is 'zen_' as thought.

It sounds like some how your products and products_descriptions are in the wrong tables and are in the zen_zen_ tabels ...

However, you say you have 0 categories and 0 categories_descriptions ...

And you say that you have less products than you have products_descriptions ... and this is a 1 to 1 relationship per language ...
