Adding "How did you hear about us?" in checkout?

I've searched the forums but I only found one thread from 2007 about an add-on. Does the current edition of Zen Cart offer this as a built in function? During checkout I would like to ask

  1. How did you hear about us?
  2. Do you need instructions or scraps?

my site, http://diaperkit.com/store/

Thank you!

I wouldn't mind doing the same at some point along the line too if anyone knows how..?

Some sort of virtual product with attribute values such as: google, word of mouth, yellow pages, etc..??

Re: Adding "How did you hear about us?" in checkout?

If it helps, I have that addon on my site here: https://www.havendesignz.com/store/login

The drop down entries can be changed in admin to whatever you want and more can be added....or removed as needed :)

Errrr ....

Actually it is built in, but not into the checkout, but into the create account process - which is more logical, as you don't want to keep asking this of those high value repeat customers.

It's off by default (presumably why so few people know about it), but you can enable it in Admin > Configuration > Customer Details ? Customers Referral Status.

Re: Adding "How did you hear about us?" in checkout?

I've seen that, not really delved into it too much before LOL but if I am understanding correctly what I have read in brief searches just now, the addon mod offers drop down selection of choices basically just for informational purposes whereas the built in ZC function gives a text box to type in? And the other difference being that the built in one can have a referral/discount code attached to it I think....still reading up on it LOL

Re: Adding "How did you hear about us?" in checkout?

Hmmm. I won't have a hell of a lot of repeat business, and most I'd say will want to pay with credit card (not signing up to an account with my site) so the addon will be the one to use.. will check it out, thanks!

Have seen the customer referral section but figured it would only apply to customers who create themselves a login account, yes?

No, that isn't built in, but the mod here seems to work well:
**
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=186**

Have installed this, but am now getting the following message:

1146 Table 'getbuck_zencartgetbucked.sources' doesn't exist

any ideas?

Re: Adding "How did you hear about us?" in checkout?

So this is fine for basic info. But does it store the information with the Individual or just keep a General Tally. I want to know $'s since all leads are not created equal. At this point I have not been able to find and association between the Customer and the Referall am I just misssing it?

I like the "Security Image" section in your sign up page. Would appreciate information on how to obtain Mod. Thanks in advance. Yvonne, https://www.redhillchildrenswear.com.au

Yes, when you go to Admin - Customers, it has the referral details there for each customer :)

It's the Captcha using TTF and GD Mod, though I installed the one below it with the telephone removal bit as well lol and the extra formatting was done by me to make it match in :)

Re: Adding "How did you hear about us?" in checkout?

it's not updating in the admin for me, I have installed add customer in admin and login as customer in admin so I had to update the files my self, maybe i missed something? The options are there in the front end for the customer and I have all the options stated for the admin (config, customer info, extras), it just not updating for the referrals information...

With a new test account is just shows -none- for referrals :(

Re: Adding "How did you hear about us?" in checkout?

I just installed this mod and when I install the sql into myphpadmin I'm getting the following error:

"SQL query:

ALTER TABLE customers_info ADD customers_info_source_id int NOT NULL AFTER customers_info_date_account_last_modified;

MySQL said:

#1060 - Duplicate column name 'customers_info_source_id' "

I am installing this in 1.3.8. I don't know sql, so this might be an easy fix. Do I leave it alone or do I need to change something?

Thanks,
mkopecky

Re: Adding "How did you hear about us?" in checkout?

I've got this mod working well on my site at https://www.silkblooms.co.uk but I'd like to address the subject in the title of this thread, "How Did You Hear About Us - IN CHECKOUT"

You see, this mod works for people who wish to sign up for an account on my site. It works great in fact. However, I'm trying to address those who choose to use PayPal Express or Google Checkout and thereby bypass the account signup process.

So my question in a nutshell, how do I integrate this mod into the main_page=checkout&action=null page?

I would like to know the same.

Was a solution ever found?
