Default Coupons with a fixed value adds up 20% on taxable orders

    Hi,

I have just started experimenting with discount coupons with a fixed value, instead of a percentage.

I ship worldwide so obviously I have set up different tax rules depending on the shipping destination. Works great.

However, the latest coupon I sent out had a fixed value of 100 SEK.

On a tax-free order, it works just fine :

But on any order where there is tax involved, it adds 20% to the value of the coupon. And I can't for the life of me figure out why. 25% would kind of make sense because that's the Swedish sales tax (VAT). But I can't understand where 20% is pulled from?

The coupons are automatically created (by mailbeez) and are basically clones of each other. They both say that they're worth 100% when I click on them in admin.

Would really appreciate some advise here, as I have no clue on what I could have overlooked.

    Thank you

    Best regards

    Peter

If you go to Modules ... Order Total ... and click on the Discount Coupon, what are all the settings in the right hand panel?

What are all the Sort Orders for your Order Total modules?

Hi Linda, thanks for your reply!

    My settings are :

    Discount Coupon

    This module is installed
    true

    This module is enabled
    true

    Sort Order
    703

    Include Shipping
    false

    Include Tax
    false

    Re-calculate Tax
    Standard

    Tax Class
    Taxable Goods2

    Disable Wholesale
    false

    Disable Sales
    true

Haven't touched these settings in a VERY long time so they can most likely be tweaked a little...

And here's my sort order :

Another issue for using coupons with fixed value, if applied to an order will a smaller order product value than the coupon itself :

The order including tax was 89 SEK + shipping = 29 SEK = 118 SEK

The coupon value was 100 SEK, which, once applied, once again changes to 120 SEK.

    Turned out like this :

    Products
    ------------------------------------------------------
    1 x CRASHDÏET Flag = 89.00kr
    ------------------------------------------------------
    Sub-Total: 89.00kr
    Discount Coupon: 720b9e : -117.80kr
    Shipping: 29.00kr
    Tax (25%): 5.80kr
    Total: 0.20kr

I would hope that even kind of "aggressive" coupons like this would not affect the shipping cost... I can totally send out "free" products once in a while, this was the original plan and I know that the customer wouldn't mind paying for shipping only! But it's gonna hurt a little if I also have to cover for the shipping ;-).

And the 20% add on top of the coupons still confuses me .

Would be truly grateful for any input here!

    Thank you.

    Best regards

    Peter

I discovered another weird order, this one is with tax as well :

    Sub-Total: 290.44kr
    Discount Coupon: bea34a : 128.86kr
    Economy Mail (€3.76) : 34.00kr
    Tax (25%): 36.03kr
    Total: 195.58kr

This time, 28.86 SEK was added to my 100 SEK discount coupon.

Clicking on the coupon code generates the correct info :

Congratulations, you have redeemed a Discount Coupon.

    Product/Category Restrictions

This coupon is valid for all categories.
This coupon is valid for all products.

    Coupon Name : 2013MB_WB#2
    Coupon Description : _p_ 100kr fixed value_/p_
The coupon is worth 100.00kr discount against your order
The coupon is valid between 12/20/2014 and 01/04/2015

The coupons are auto generated by Mailbeez but look correct in admin.

When these coupons are used on orders without sales tax / VAT the correct amount of 100 SEK is deducted.

Really have no idea where to go from here?

    Best regards

    Peter

Does the same problem occur if you create a new test coupon by hand using the ZC admin coupon_admin screen?

Tax classes are affected by zones (countries+states) and tax rates. How is Taxable Goods2 defined? ie: how could I create that on my own site to make it work just like yours?

Hi DrByte, thank you for looking into this!

Yes. Just did a new test with a coupon I created myself.

    Again, a tax-free order looks correct :

But once I change shipping address of my test customer - making Zen Cart realize that tax has to be added - it's still adding 20 SEK to my 100 SEK coupon :

Oh my god, haven't touched these settings in a long time . However, I only use one Tax Class, called Taxable Goods2. This class have 2 rates, one with 25% tax and another rate with 0%. For the 25% tax rate I have added every country that's included in the European Union, making sure they pay the Swedish VAT of 25%. The second rate, which is 0%, has all other countries I'm shipping too. This way, all orders shipped to outside the European Union is tax-free, and instead the customer pays import taxes.

Ehh, I must have installed some wholesale plugin a long time ago. I'm not using this one. Can it affect the problems I'm having with the discount coupons? Is it worth a try to uninstall this plugin?

You tell me . I hope my answer above regarding my tax classes can bring some clarification, but please let me know if you need more details!
