Glad you got it working but SERIOUSLY!!?? You want the admins to edit my post?? I stand by what I said because that's WHAT that particular error message means..
My comments are meant to be helpful, and not as you have apparently taken them.
The reason I did not post the initial install problem I encountered was because I found YOUR ANSWER and the subsequent replies you gave, which stated that the error message "says that it has all the files in the right place THEREFORE it does not need to create all the files it says it DID NOT create.. " The files were not in the right place, which is what is causing the problem. The files (in my case it was the template files) must be installed manually if the error/warning message appears, or the hover/zoom will not work.
Myself, and several others spent a significant amount of time following your instruction, to no avail. I can't understand why you are showing anger just because I have pointed out that your "answer" to the other poster is not correct. Please edit your post so that others who use a search engine to try to solve the problem can see that in the event of a problem installing, there is another option? Because of your authority on this product, and your insistence that the original person (and others) who had the same problem was wrong and must not be following the "instructions", people will obviously interpret your answer as being bona fide. Here again,below, is EXACTLY what you said and should be changed to show why the warning/error messages show on some installations. Your reply is emphatic that the non-creation of files (which causes the problem) is OK and intentional - which is not the case. The case in fact, is that the lack of creation of those files is the reason that the hover effect does not work, and they have to be installed manually. By the way, in my case, it was not the server that was at fault either, as it is my own, and nothing that was changed with settings etc over the period of 5 days trying to solve this could rectify the problem.
I think it is a great product, and realise that yourself and a number of others spend a great deal of their time on IH4, and for that I am grateful. Thank you.

Re: 4 days and 8 hrs a day later - hover effect still not working
I do see your comments as helpful as it will help others solve the same issue you had.
I think this shows that their is a fine line when trying to automate the install process. Personally I rather do a manual install as I have control over what goes wrong and can troubleshoot the issue by backtracking. But as you have seen an automated process while easier it can have its own problems, especially when some would rely on the error messages and overlook that as the causing the problem.

First let me be CLEAR.. "anger" is YOUR interpretation of what I may or may not be feeling.. You don't KNOW how I'm feeling.. So you really should leave out the interpretative emotions out of your comments..
Here's the issue I have/had with your comments... Calling out my comment alone as if the followup by niccol was not part of the SAME conversation takes what I said out of context and make it sound as if I somehow had posted MISINFORMATION and continue to do so.. I stand by my original response because the warning messages as described by the original poster on their face do MEAN WHAT I SAID.. Niccol's follow-up identifies that in CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES that particular MIX of install messages may be indicative of a problem with the auto-installer not properly copying over all the files IH4 needs to run.. I didn't know this at the time I posted my comments..

**SMH**:no:
I KNOW that the "non-creation of files" WILL cause the module to misbehave.. The issue is you think that I was telling someone that this is "OK and intentional" and that's simply not true.. So let me say this again.. you are taking my response out of context.. If you follow that WHOLE line of discussion (instead of just pulling out my part of it and chastising me) niccol's follow-up to my initial response is based on the fact that the FINAL LINE of the install messages is a HINT that the auto installer failed. The messages as described by the original poster on their face do MEAN WHAT I SAID. However, niccol wrote the auto installer.. So she would know that though on their face the messages do MEAN WHAT I SAID, the particular mix of messages followed by a message indicating that the auto installer failed to delete itself was an indication that the auto installer did NOT properly copy the files over despite the messages to the contrary.. "Success Image Handler files all exist in correct positions in the directory structure."
So no.. even if I could (and I can't) edit my message I wouldn't.. for all the reasons stated here..
Again.. glad you got it working..
Happy Zenning..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Hello gang,
I've recently moved my site from Hostgator to Site5 for the hosting still using the shared hosting plan. Site5 had what they call a resource usage guide to let you know when you get close to the limits set for a shared hosting site. I have been under this limit but have been spiking close to the limit especially when the crawlers are around. They suggested optimizing my images may be of some help, they aren't all that big but probably could be optimized some. I only uploaded one image for each product but I have several thousand items so it mounts up. I didn't upload more then one image for one product to handle small, med, and large images.
Instead of running all the images through an optimization program, would you recommend Image Handler 4 to help my situation? Again, I'm trying to cut back on the resource usage so they don't suspend my site. I haven't gone over the limit but have come pretty close a couple of days and a check shows that those were the days that the google crawler was on the site.
Thanks for any recommendations.
Jim

Image Handler is an image optimization module.. If you are looking for an image optimization module, then this is the right place.. I don't know if it will help your situation, but image optimization is always a good thing for ANY site..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
I am having issues with multiple images. After I enable Image Handler any part that had multiple images with the _01 _02 no longer show up for example.
Part # 1234 had 3 images:
1234.jpg
1234_01.jpg
1234_02.jpg
If you enable it only 1234.jpg is showing.
Also I have uploaded my watermark files, and enabled watermarking in the config but I can not get the watermarks to show up? any help please would be appreciated.

Link to a specific example will help... It's most likely NOT an IH4 issue but an issue with how you've named your images and how Zen Cart manages primary and additional images.. IH4 doesn't change the way Zen Cart manages images, it adds additional features on top of the default image features.. (caching, compression, etc)

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
I feel stupid asking this but haven't run across it reading all the suggested material yet, may just haven't gotten to it but my installers instructions ended with "enable Image Handler 4 in Configuration". I tried to reach him for clarification but haven't been able to yet, I've looked in my Configuration tab and I can't find anything that says to "enable". Can someone point me in the right direction to locate it?
Thanks
Jim

Admin --> Configuration --> Images
the setting to enable IH4 is there.. this is covered in the IH4 readme.. (In the Usage and Configure sections there is a screeprint of the Admin --> Configuration --> Images options)

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Ok, thanks, guess I haven't gotten that far in the docs yet, still have more to go, jumping the gun I guess.

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
IH4 only process the images in product info pages.
Can I have the images in the category listing processed by IH? I would like to have watermarked images in category listing. Otherwise, a visitor can easily find the original image directory, and have a direct access to untreated (w/o the watermark) images.
Thank you.

Image Handler manages ALL product and category images ANYWHERE on the site.. if that is not your result it likely means that part of the install or configuration is incorrect. Please go back to the readme configuration and usage section and make SURE all of your settings are correct.
if after checking everything you still have issues, you will want to post a link to a page where we can see the issue you are reporting and you will need to post your configuration image settings..

I should have be more careful in stating my quest. You are right! IH does process the images in product listings.
My question should be how can I watermark the product listing images? Thanks!

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
I did. That's how I see it working in my website.
I see in Administration > Image setting menus:
- IH small images watermark
- IH medium images watermark
- IH large images watermark
I confirmed above switches were working properly in the website. But I don't believe the product listing images are controlled by none of above. I wish to watermark the images in the product listings.
Am I missing something?

Post ALL your image settings and post a link to your site.. without this I cannot answer..
FYI IH4 features work on ALL product and category images EVERYWHERE on the site including product listings..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
I come for help once again :-) ok, im not using hover effects so i want to get rid of this because i dont want to call on something i dont use for mobile sake.
HTML Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="includes/templates/domak/jscript/jscript_imagehover.js"></script>
What i did was comment out these lines of init_image_handler.php
HTML Code:
// $template_files = array(
// array(DIR_FS_CATALOG.'includes/modules/'.$current_template.'/additional_images.php',DIR_FS_CATALOG.'includes/modules/IH_INSTALL/additional_images.php'),
// array(DIR_FS_CATALOG.'includes/modules/'.$current_template.'/main_product_image.php',DIR_FS_CATALOG.'includes/modules/IH_INSTALL/main_product_image.php'),
// array(DIR_FS_CATALOG.'includes/templates/'.$current_template.'/css/style_imagehover.css',DIR_FS_CATALOG.'includes/templates/IH_INSTALL/css/style_imagehover.css'),
// array(DIR_FS_CATALOG.'includes/templates/'.$current_template.'/jscript/jscript_imagehover.js',DIR_FS_CATALOG.'includes/templates/IH_INSTALL/jscript/jscript_imagehover.js'),
// array(DIR_FS_CATALOG.'includes/templates/'.$current_template.'/popup_image_additional/tpl_main_page.php',DIR_FS_CATALOG.'includes/templates/IH_INSTALL/popup_image_additional/tpl_main_page.php')
// );
Everything seems to work fine, but did i overlook something?

What exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to take away the calls for image hover on the customer side, admin side or BOTH? By the way, there was no need to touch that file if you only wanted that hover feature disabled.
-
Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
No, i disabled it anyway in admin. But when loading the page it still looked for script/jscript_imagehover.js and that's using unnecessary loading time. And because a lot of customers using phones i wanted to get rid of it. It works fine, but i'm always scared i overlook some consequences. English is not my native language so sometimes is hard to express myself clearly :-)

Wasn't meant to be negative in my post, just wanted more information to know what you wanted.
That is easily doable without touching those files. Bascially the way zencart works is that it loads all files in the jscript folder starting with "jscript_" and all css files in the css folder starting with "style". So to stop them from loading, just remove them or or take away the "jscript" and "style" from the file name. Once that is done, those files will never be loaded on your store side. I have done this in the past as image hover is really not needed and customers do get annoyed by things popping up on their screen.

If you want to turn off the image hover there is an admin setting to manage that and the image popup STOPS.. if you don't want the javascript and CSS file which supports the image hover to load, then remove the JS and CSS files from your templates JS and CSS folders... No need to touch ANY of the IH4 code AT ALL..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
I tried to install without result. I tried it on a clean install, and on my webshop. It keeps saying:
Code:
Missing or unreadable file:mywebshop.nl/public_html/fargesiabamboe/bmz_cache/.htaccess
There's no htaccess in that map on my ftp client.
How can I fix this issue?

Sounds like bad upload of the files.
You could copy (ftp) the .htaccess from the bmz_cache directory in the mod directly into this directory on the server.
Then see if any "other" errors appear?

Thank you for replying. My extractor didn't extract htacess, so I guess that's the problem. Will try with another extract program later.

Re: Mixing .jpg and .gif
All of my small and medium images are grayscale .gif (you could say clip art, but basically they are scans from the mfg catalog that has a basic pencil outline drawing of the part.
My large images are all .jpg camera photographs of the actual part.
I've searched and googled around and cannot find any mod that allows mixing of image types.
Is there a code modification to allow mixed image file formats yet?
If not, is can I edit a file that would accomplish this? Set up a variable for the file extension, or a file extension swap for the large image, or a wild card or something?
There is SUCH a HUGE difference in sizes to make all of them jpg or all png that I really, really, really like to make mixed types possible.

The reason you are not finding a module for this is that it requires a substantial change to the default image management.. You can pay for a developer to make this change for you.. or you can take Kobra's suggestion or my prior suggestions to you..

Of coarse I already tried changing the large product photographs into gif but, as expected, the appearance is less than professional (looks bad).
I am surprised that this would be a *substantial change* since it would be just the extension for large images at we're talking about. I really thought it would have been a small, minor change to do something like ignore the extension, or swap it.
Ok.

Ok.
Seriously this is a NON ISSUE if you simply use Image Handler as it convert your small and medium images to JPGs OR it can create the small and medium images from the large image you upload.. then there is no need to try and work out your mixed filetype issue..
Otherwise unless someone shares the code to do this, you will have to hire someone to provide the code changes you need if you really MUST have this change..

I have a fantastic, powerful, bulk image editor/converter software program, but that's not my need.
Thanks, but I think that you did not read my post.
As I stated, all of my small and medium images are grayscale .gif (you could say clip art, but basically they are scans from the mfg catalog that has a basic pencil outline drawing of the part. My large images are all .jpg camera photographs of the actual part.
So, HOW IS IMAGE HANDLER GOING TO CREATE small and medium GRAYSCALE GIF IMAGES WITH TEXT FROM MFG CATALOG SCANS (that are basically outline drawings of the product) from LARGE, COLOR ACTUAL PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHS?
They are 2 different images as well as 2 different file types, and the medium is no good for a large image due to what it is, and the large image is no good for a medium, nor small image due to what and how it is, but that's really not the point nor the issue...
Also, I should clarify that 100% of my small and medium images are the gifs, and 100% of the large images are the photograph jpgs, so I'm not looking for a mod that is so complex as to try to recognize mixed image types throughout the different uses of image handling.
Just a simple extension ignore, or swap, or whatever for the large *_LARGE.* image program section.
-
Re: Mixing .jpg and .gif
I appreciate you taking the time to help me out, but perhaps I caused you a bit of confusion by not explaining the situation very well.
Anyway, if I'm wrong that something like this is not a fairly simple code edit, then I guess that I'll just have to live with unnecessary large file sizes, unnecessary bandwidth usage, slower page loading, and poor image quality. I think making everything jpg would look better than converting the photographs into gifs...
On screen and in though it just seemed like it wouldn't be a complicated code edit.

I'm not confused at all and I read your post and clearly understood your issue.. (and for the record it wasn't MY suggestion to convert photos into GIFs) I think the issue here is you are not clear on what Image Handler WILL DO.. You said you are "not looking for a mod that is so complex as to try to recognize mixed image types throughout the different uses of image handling" and you think you will end up with "unnecessary large file sizes, unnecessary bandwidth usage, slower page loading, and poor image quality" but you really need to look at Image Handler.. I think it WILL resolve your issues management because that's what it does.. I suggest downloading it, and reading the readme -- especially the usage section.. there are a TON of little used features that Image Handler has that will help solve your issues).. and this is part of the reason you are not getting a a response.. No one wants to reinvent the wheel.. Image Handler is the wheel..

Re: Mixing .jpg and .gif
Thanks again,
Okay, I downloaded it, and read the readme, but did not install it yet because I would need to clarify my understanding of plugin's capibilities...
So, basically lets say it like this... I sell miniature gears...
_LRG.jpg = I took a macro photograph of each gear that I have in stock 1000 x 1000 px original size.
_MED.gif = I cut/crop an outline drawing out of the scan of the mfg catalog page for each gear (that has tech specs gear count size text with it). 450x450 original size.
small image is the _MED gif reduced to 150x150. Still very readable.
All files have same name, but with the _MED or _LRG.
All 3 image files are uploaded into their correct folders.
So basically you are saying that Image Handler 4 can be set up so that for gear100-35 with the images gear100-35.gif, gear100-35_MED.gif, and gear100-35_LRG.jpg uploaded,
I can specify .gif for small images and have in the images folder gear100-35.gif
and set up gif setting also for medium images for gear100-35_MED.gif in images/medium
and set up jpg for all large images for gear100-35_LRG.jpg in images/large
and when I am on the product page and click on the medium size image, it will bring up the popup with gear100-35_LRG.jpg? Basically with the settings set up in a way, it will look for the file names. It's not going to look to create a medium nor create a small image based off reducing the _LRG image?
It's almost like I have multiple images in the way that the _LRG image is different than the _MED or small image, but I basically don't want multiple images, just an actual photograph for the _LRG image in place of the clipart-like-ish medium and small images.

Re: Mixing .jpg and .gif
(FYI, it's over a decade ago, so my memory is a bit foggy, but I believe when using miva cart with my book business, I didn't use their image handling system. Instead I edited the global head, pasted in a javascript for popups, wrote a html link into the product page around the image tolken, set up an extra field with the relative url and used a tolken to place that extra field into the link, and when you clicked on the image, a popup of a larger image came up for that book)

Not to be a stickler here.. but you really should ask Image Handler questions on the Image Handler support thread.. any further discussion on this is a LOT off topic from what this thread is supposed to be about.. Please repost your question on the Image Handler support thread..

Image Handler will let you:
Upload ONE image and generate the optimized small, medium, and large image from the image you upload. (this is how MOST folks use it)
or
upload three different images for the small, medium, and large image
Image Handler doesn't really care WHERE in the images folder you upload the image which allows you the flexibility of organizing your images in a way that makes sense to you. In otherwords you are NOT constrained by the medium and large folders as in the stock Zen Cart config. You also DO NOT have to name your images with the _LRG or _MED suffixes..
In the settings you can explicity say what format each image size is. (large = PNG, medium=GIF, small=JPG). It will convert the file you upload to the format you designate. The default is "no_change" meaning just that "do not change the format upon upload".
Truly the ONLY way to see how this all works is to install it and TRY IT..

Thanks for the explanation of some of the features and flexibility of IH4, BUT I'm really not looking for a ton of features, nor lots of flexibility, nor something that can meet all different needs for a variety of situations within my store.
My graphics editor, and myself already made everything (as stated above), and if I absolutely-have-to do a batch convert/edit, it's just a simple button click... so little of work...
I just have 1 apparently-not-so-simple need, and basically if I read closely your reply, you are saying basically..
NO, it cannot.

Posted this in the other thread too..
Actually I was saying that Image Handler can meet your needs. You think the module is too much for your needs.. You have a not so simple need for which the simple solution is installing Image Handler.. My guess is that no one has provided you the code you are looking for because Image Handler already does what you are asking after, and noone wants to reinvent the wheel (especially for free).. If you don't want to install Image Handler, and no one contributes the code you want, then your other option is to hire someone to write the code you do need..

Hello - still totally stuck with this issue (see below) where the additional images are not appearing - code is on the page, these are set to show - is this something I could pay someone to look at for me?
If anyone can help please PM me for details.

If I understand what You need the best way to solve this is to use something like Zen Lightbox that fully integrate with IMH... Easy solution without modify the code ;-)

By "Product listing page" do you ACTUALLY mean the PRODUCT INFO page??? If so the hover does NOT work there, and never has, and this is covered in detail in the readme.. If this is not what you mean a URL where you see the "issues" would be helpful..

Perhaps a minor correction to the above statement (assuming... That the location is still the product info page), as the readme states the main image (typically sized as the medium image) does not allow/provide a popup on hover, but... The additional images on the product info page can be setup to/do offer popup on hover. Still need further clarity though on the situation/condition and the expectation.

Agreed.. The hover works on the additional images on the product info page because the thumbnails used are the "small" images (which is the only images that the hover effect works on). but not on the main image.. However this is all guessing since it's still not clear where on dudedevon's site he is seeing an issue.

The install is failing. I tested this on a standalone localhost and had ZERO issues. It was so automatic that it was silly. This time no joy. I have verified that the file below actually exists in the proper place...but there is clearly a "/" missing when the autoinstaller is looking for the files. This happens with EVERY file not just the one below.
Code:
Warning Missing or unreadable file:/home5/radianv2/public_html/radiant_holidays/adminincludes/languages/english/extra_definitions/bmz_image_handler.php
I typed over the actual admin name btw.

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
The issue is unique to your store.. I would say that you need to check your admin configure.php file.. I believe that's where the missing "/" originates..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
I considered that..but given that this is a live working store for several years, I would think that my configure files would be correct. Is that assumption wrong?

Correct and functional are two different things.
Although this is way more likely to be a personal store issue as pointed out than a plugin issue, somewhere (maybe a new thread?) Would recommend posting your admin configure.php without including database credentials and if included any specific admin path information (FS files, WS files that specifically call out your admin directory.) Posted within tags where the word code is like CODE

Wrong..
The issue is unique to YOUR store.. (otherwise others would be posting that they had the SAME issue and you would have found the SAME issue in your local Zen Cart installation..) SMACKS of an issue in the configure.php file with a missing "/" (which is where IH4 would get the filepath info from)

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Thanks for the input folks. Given that this is the fix, I wanted to post the findings just in case someone has a similar issue.
I went back and compared the configure.php files from my local test server and my live server and found an interesting thing. When I upgraded from 1.3.9 -> 1.5.1, I saved the configure.php file from v1.3.9 and overwrote the new one from the base v1.5.1 installer. Sure enough, the header at the top of my live store said
Code:
@package Configuration Settings circa 1.3.9
and the one from my local host had
Code:
@package Configuration Settings circa 1.5.1
So I began to look at the differences in the two files. v1.5.1 has the following for defining DIR_WS_ items (no need to sanitize the admin as its not really listed)
Code:
$t1 = parse_url(HTTP_SERVER);$p1 = $t1['path'];$t2 = parse_url(HTTPS_SERVER);$p2 = $t2['path'];
define('DIR_WS_ADMIN', preg_replace('#^' . str_replace('-', '\-', $p1) . '#', '', dirname($_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'])) . '/');
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/radiant_holidays/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_ADMIN', preg_replace('#^' . str_replace('-', '\-', $p2) . '#', '', dirname($_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'])) . '/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/radiant_holidays/');
and v1.3.9 had the following (with the admin sanitized)
Code:
define('DIR_WS_ADMIN', '/radiant_holidays/admin/');
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/radiant_holidays/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_ADMIN', '/radiant_holidays/admin/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/radiant_holidays/');
Once I updated the configure.php file, I got no warnings and no notices about overwrites but IH4 is working just fine now.

Re: Image Handler v4.3.3
Hi, I'd appreciate any ideas. I just installed Image Handler 4 on my test site Zen Cart v.1.5.3. Before installing, product images in the product listing were showing up, after installing the image doesn't show up, but if you click on the broken image link the popup shows the image (using Zen Magnific). Also, all the smaller images throughout the site show, just not on the actual product listing. I right clicked on the broken image to open it in a new tab, and I got a 403 Permission Denied error: You do not have permission for this request /new_store/images/medium/alchemy/P564_MED.jpg. Any idea what's happening here?
Here's my site if you need to view it, it's on a test server and I don't want the url to be indexed, so will put spaces: blackorchidalternativefashion.com/ new_store

Dunno since we cannot see the site.. Sounds like you've failed to merge the common files that Zen Magnific and Image Handler have in common thereby wiping out the Zen Magnific code.. suggest going to the Zen Magnific support thread for assistance on using Zen Magnific and Image Handler together..

Re: Image Handler v4.3.3
Aha, simple fix, found in the instructions (doh!)! Under admin/configuration/images I just had to change "Image - Use Proportional Images on Products and Categories" from a 0 to a 1. The images are now showing in my product listings!
-
Re: Image Handler v4.3.3
If you don't use the default popup for a product's main large image then you should add the following code to the file "includes\modules\IH_INSTALL\main_product_image.php" at the end of file:
Code:
if (function_exists('handle_image')) {
$newimg = handle_image($products_image_large, addslashes($products_name), LARGE_IMAGE_WIDTH, LARGE_IMAGE_HEIGHT, '');
list($src, $alt, $width, $height, $parameters) = $newimg;
$products_image_large = zen_output_string($src);
}
With this code (from IH's additional_images.php) ZenCart will obtain the correct IH image name and not the default name.

Not sure I understand the issue the solution is meant to resolve.. Can you give a little more context/detail???

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Hi...been reading and trying to upload Image Handler 4.0, v1.5x for the last couple of days. I am using Zen Cart's current version 1.53. I'm not having any success. I have read all the tabs over and over.
The directions state to "rename the admin folder inside the 1_Installation_File on my hard drive to match the admin folder on my server". I don't understand why I'm renaming the Admin folder if I'm taking all the files out of the 1_Installation_File right? Because the directions say:
"DO NOT upload the "1_Install_Files" folder, just the CONTENTS of this folder"
And I am uploading everything in the 1_Install_file, even though some folders go down 3 and 4 deep) and ftping the files over to my administration folder on my server - right?
And with the file mergers, is there a reason why I couldn't perform the file merger corrections with Filezilla on my server instead of downloading files to be renamed to my computer then - re-uploading them to my server?
Sorry if this is obvious to some. But am totally new.
Thanks for any and all help.

Had to reread this a couple of times to understand what the issues were and just had an aha moment...
Couple of things. The instructions are written from the perspective of one size fits all. The merge could take placein space if that works for you, but understand, if you deviate from the instructions things can go wrong and then providing/getting assistance can get messy.
The reason to rename the admin directory, besides that's what the instructions say,is so that you can easily grab the contents of the install folder and place those contents at the root of your store. This way there are no "forgotten" or misplaced files or other related issues assuming that you use a quality ftp client.that doesn't continuously drop files. This is the typical method used to install plugins. Dont think too hard about how to follow the instructions.

to add to what mc123456789 says.. Sure you could do this if you are familiar and know how to.. We didn't include instructions for this method of installation because web servers vary so widely we'd never cover EVERY nuance, and it's NOT the most common method for installing (nor is it a recommended path)
That said you can follow the prescribed TESTED instructions or strike out on your own if you are familiar enough with the file structure to do so..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Thanks so much for your reply. If my store path is this: public_html/brendas/administrative. Is the root of my store administrative or brendas? (pardon my ignorance)
I will download the files and merge that way, because I really am not that familiar with how to keep the "file structure" intact.
So I'm clear on everything, when uploading the files from within the 1_Installation_File, I am not dragging and dropping the files themselves out of the 1_Installation_File, but opening each file and uploading the "contents" of that file (because at least one file that opens from within the 1_Installation_File opens to another file and then another file, before you find any contents) i.e. 1_Installation_File/includes/modules/pages/pop-up image - so I'm following the path all the way down and dropping the contents of the file (no matter how deep)?
Thanks for your patience.

Been a while sinceive looked at what thecontents of the installation folder actually contain, but at a minimum there is anincludes folder and a folder that resembles ADMIN. On your store, atleast in the "brenda" folder,is likely several folders such as includes, images, admin (renamed to something other than adminand now not administration as it has been posted for all to see as well as someother folders). That directory is your store's root. It is also something that can be determined through looking at the includes/configure.php file. Anyways, while using a quality ftp program such as suggested on this site, you grab the includes folder from the install package as well as all of the other folders/files in the installation directory and drag them to your stores root. Do *not* for example drag the includes into the includes folder! And there is no need to try to drag each file over separately. Maintaining the directory structure is accomplished by performing the above. The files are all in the directory(ies) expected and the install will move the needed files to where they should end up and make backup copies of the replaced files (all covered in the documentation).
There are several reasons not to do this one at a time that include but are not limited to:
1) It's slow as allllll!
2) You may miss one or more files.
3) After placement and when following the instructions it simply works! (On a majority of host systems. There is still a few out there on which it doesn't for unknown reasons.)

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Thank you... OK so FYI, inside of the installation folder there now is: Bmz_cache, administrative, images and includes.
So I understand uploading all the folders/files in the "1_installation file", but are you telling me to also put or upload that renamed adminstrative folder (Brenda) inside the "1_Installation_file" over to Brenda on the server side as well?
Thanks
Brenda

So,I'm flying by thehip here, but I assume that the instructions go something likerename the admin folder in the installation folder to match the name of your *secret* admin folder. Upload all of the contents of the installation folder to your store's directory. So, yes the admin directory should be uploaded as well... Now, that is an assumption also that the admin directory is only in the root directory and not multiple levels deep, but that is something atypicalto do and the installer/documentation is designed for the typical install.
After you do this you need to change the name of your admin directory because you haveposted it for everyone to see and know. The admindirectory should never be publicly posted. Reasonsfor that are available in the forum.

This is EXACTLY what the readme says you should be doing.. Not sure why the protracted discussion over this when it is clearly stated a few places in the readme..

Why introduce this idea at all into a discussion with someone who appears to be somewhat of a newbie???? Who would do this??????????????? (nevermind WHY?????) This NOT THE NORM and if anyone has done such a FOOLISH thing, then there is NO WAY to support installing ANY module (not just this one) into a store which has an ODD and NON-STANDARD admin setup..

Agreed... the purpose of remaning the admin folder is to keep it something that hackers can't EASILY find..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Hi and thank you for your help, both of you. I am a newbie, but the examples I gave ARE NOT my real folder names. I did say in my post (i.e. which means "example". I do know that. But please know, none of this was in vain.
As a newbie, when you are hanging on every word of the instructions and things still aren't working, you tend to question things that may seem obvious to those who are more "zenned". Again thanks to both of you for taking the time to clarify some things. Am just trying to get my store up and running.

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Hi.... Good News! (I think)... After doing a fresh install of Image Handler v150 4.0. I was able to log into my administration panel. Up until now after the install I was getting a blank page and I was unable to log in.
BUT, I didn't get the "successful install" message at the top of the page. Nor, when I go to Admin > Configuration > Images, there is no mention of any 1H4 images to resize. Any suggestions please?
Thanks

Re: Image Handler v4.3.3
I have a few different questions, I'm using Image Handler 4 on a v1.5.3 site. I'd appreciate any help!
First, I'm using Zen Magnific for my product images, but I notice that with Image Handler installed, the Zen Magnific pop up only works with the first image, it doesn't have arrows for the additional images as it should. I have the Gallery Mode set to true, which is supposed to include all the images. So the main image uses, Zen Magnific, and the additional images use a different kind of pop up, or if I hover over the images they have a hover effect. The main image doesn't have a hover effect either with Zen Magnific turned on or off. Is there a way to make these two addons work together so that the image viewing is consistent? Here is an example product: http://www.blackorchidcouture.com/st...oducts_id=2818
Next question: is there a way to add one image to all the products all at once instead of having to do it one by one? For instance, for the footwear, I want to add a size chart to all the products in that category. Do I have to add this pic individually to each product?
Last question: I did try adding the size chart image to a few of the shoes through Image Handler, and while the image shows up just fine in the admin area, when I look at the product, the image isn't included there in the additional images. The image is a .gif while the shoe images are .jpg, don't know if that makes a difference or not. I do notice that the image is renamed correctly, for instance if the image is named black-shoe, it renames it black-shoe_1, but .gif instead of .jpg. Could this be the problem?
Thanks!

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Brenda, I didn't see anything saying it successfully installed either, but it still did. IH options don't come up in their own place in admin/configuration, it's under the regular admin/configuration/images, it's added on to there. Is this what you are wondering?
-
Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread
Oh never mind, I see that you know that it's under configuration/images. Did you scroll all the way down? There should be a list of new options with IH in front of them....

Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread
Hi Black Orchid.... Thanks, I did scroll all the way down, but to no avail. No IH image option listed.... :(
Something must be missing in my install....

So, as you may recall from earlier about following the directions... If you re not already logged into the admin panel when the actual install file is placed onto the server, then the success/error message(s) will not appear when the next click is made within the admin area which is when the "install" automagically happens. Now if not mistaken this was an upgrade that was performed to the system, so perhaps you were not awaare that errorlogs have moved from the cache directory to the logs directory of the store beginning in ZC 1.5.1. There may be errors listed there relevant to the issue. It may also be necessary to remove IH4 and reinstall (I know again) this time being in a position to observe the notifications (logged in). If the message(s) received indicate a successful install; however, there is no change to the system, it is possible that whatever special instructions exist in the documentaation needs to be performed (I thought it required manually performing the applicable SQL/PHP action(s) in the file but I haven't personally run into that issue yet. Otherwise it may likely and unfortunately be some specific issue not associated with IH4 that should be addressed in it's own thread. "On it's own" iH4 and it's install is rather straight forward, well, actually the install of iH4 is not complicated under a majority of conditions, it's some cases of making it all work together that can be an issue, but that is for other threads

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Hi All,
I have a store that has Image Handler 4 and this has been working just fine for years now. I added Easy Populate 1.5 and while working on updating products I made some mistakes in one of my updates. I then did a silly thing to fix this.
1. I Downloaded a CSV to remove all products.
2. I uploaded a new CSV that corrected ALL products.
The products are all there now, but none of my images are showing up. Not sure if this is an Image Handler 4 issue, but I know that this plug-in controls the display of images on the store. I may have confused Image Handler 4 in some way by doing what I did.
Now, all of the images are on the site in the images directory, but they will not display unless I upload the image through a product update from the admin panel.
Well, I have thousands of products and really do not want to manually update each product image, as this will take too much time. Is there any wisdom out there that understands what I may have done, and a quick or automated was to rectify this and get all of my images to show in the store?
THANKS In Advance.

I think this is a question you need to ask in the Easy Populate support thread.. unless you physically removed the images then IH4 will pick them up.. My guess is that you need to do something with the upload file to say WHERE the image is located.. THAT is an Easy Populate question and needs to be answered on the Easy Populate support thread..

Hi there, I'm trying to find out the same thing but I don't understand what you replaced $products_image_large with? I did a search for the handle_image function on the developers toolkit and saw a few results. I did look into the files but really don't understand what to replace it with.
I've found the following code on zen colorbox:
Code:
// hook for handle_image() function such as Image Handler etc
if (function_exists('handle_image')) {
$newimg = handle_image($src, $alt, $width, $height, $parameters);
list($src, $alt, $width, $height, $parameters) = $newimg;
}
I tried replacing $products_image_large with $newimg_large and checking the source code shows up a blank :( I'm trying to get Product Image Zoom plugin to point to IH4 large image instead of having to put large images into the images/large folder.
Thank you for your patience!

The code snippet above provides the characteristics of the image to be displayed as a type of an "array" with the image source returned as $src. If you take a look at IH4s includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/additional_images.phpfor example, you will see a similar function call with $products_image_large assigned to zen_output_string($src). This type of assignment for your situation would need to be performed after the original image is identified, but before the image is displayed/used further.
Looking atthe code a little further, there is yet more "work" done to ensure all things associated with the assignment of the image is correct. (Ie, the path/file is pulled from the correct location. Etc.)

HISTORICALLY IH4 has never worked with the Product Image Zoom module.. Anyone who DOES have it working together has not shared the code required that makes this integration possible, and I have NEVER had the skillset to tackle this change..
Maybe some nice volunteer (hint hint :smile:) will at last share this most often asked about integration... I am GUESSING that this would require some kind of admin option to turn off if one isn't using the Product Image Zoom module..

Untested, but seems like may work? (Might have some offset parantheses, ie missing one or have an extra):
file changed is: includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_modules_main_product_image.php and is/was based off of the file available in ZC 1.5.3, may be different. If dimensions have been altered because of the below, then the left side of this statement:
list($src, $alt, $width, $height, $parameters) = $newimg;
Could be modified as necessary to omit the undesired property, for example to prevent the $width from being reassigned:
list($src, $alt, , $height, $parameters) = $newimg;

The second edit should account for the presence of the product image zoom code by verifying the presence of the auto_loader file in the template. If it doesn't exist, then the javascript shouldn't end up being loaded, and therefore, the zoom option/feature wouldn't work. Of course it is always possible that a javascript file could be removed as an alternative, but if the autoloader is still in place, I believe it would throw an error that it couldn't find the file(s). So seems like the best way to determine the presence of the product image zoom option. Now, if the request is/was to do the hover aspect like with other images on the page without the use of product image zoom, then that's a different story... :)
I might get around to testing the above, but have some other things to work on.

Re: products_image_large equivalent
Got to looking at what was provided above, and well, for the most part the code is "right", but in trying to apply product image zoom (plugin available from cvhainb) doesn't appear that the javascript for that plugin is getting loaded, so the extra code doesn't seem to help. I'm working to see what it takes to get that javascript loaded, but atthe same time am I to assume that it is more desirable to just get the zoom to work that is part of IH4 instead? That's a different (yet somewhat similar) path/set of code.

Re: products_image_large equivalent
Okay, had to force the javascript files to load for the plugin Product Image Zoom (http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1815) and it worked using the following code: Off to see about implementing product image zoom included with IH4 which now that I think about it probably was the initial intent/request. :)
Code:

if ($products_image != '') {

$newimg = handle_image($products_image_large, addslashes($products_name), LARGE_IMAGE_WIDTH, LARGE_IMAGE_HEIGHT, '');
list($src, $alt, $width, $height, $parameters) = $newimg;

Just an FYI.. previous attempts to get the IH hover to work on medium images rendered IH4 incompatible with compatible lightbox modules it now works just fine with.. Also turning on/off zoom on the medium images should be a configuration option.

Re: products_image_large equivalent
May have broken with other light/color box programs, but worked with colorbox.in the writeup I did. Initially wasthinking since cvhainb's version didn't have a switch that it wouldntbe possible to offer the switch, but this morning thought about it again, and realized... Duh, of course it's possible,wouldbe dependent on IH4s switch not necessarily the zoom program being used...

Re: products_image_large equivalent
So, dropped the product image zoom version of the above. Instead went with incorporating the existing zoom functionality of IH4, which I know Diva you dislike... :)
Recommend adding to the IH4 installation package (and associated SQL) the following file:
includes/templates/IH_INSTALL/templates/tpl_modules_main_product_image.php
Code:
<?php
/**
* Module Template
*
* @package templateSystem
* @copyright Copyright 2003-2011 Zen Cart Development Team
* @copyright Portions Copyright 2003 osCommerce
* @license http://www.zen-cart.com/license/2_0.txt GNU Public License V2.0
* @version $Id: tpl_modules_main_product_image.php 18698 2011-05-04 14:50:06Z wilt $
* Modified to support zoom functionality in IH4 by mc12345678 2014-11-02.
*/
?>
<?php require(DIR_WS_MODULES . zen_get_module_directory(FILENAME_MAIN_PRODUCT_IMAGE));
if ($products_image != '') {
if (function_exists('handle_image')) {
$newimg = handle_image($products_image_large, addslashes($products_name), LARGE_IMAGE_WIDTH, LARGE_IMAGE_HEIGHT, '');
list($src, $alt, $width, $height, $parameters) = $newimg;
$products_image_large_test = zen_output_string($src);
if (file_exists($products_image_large_test)) {
$products_image_large = $products_image_large_test;
$newimg2 = handle_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . $products_image, addslashes($products_name), SMALL_IMAGE_WIDTH, SMALL_IMAGE_HEIGHT, '');
list(, , , , $parameters2) = $newimg2;
}
}
}
?>
<div id="productMainImage" class="centeredContent back">
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"><!--
document.write('<?php echo '<a href="javascript:popupWindow(\\\'' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_POPUP_IMAGE, 'pID=' . $_GET['products_id']) . '\\\')">' . zen_image(addslashes($products_image_medium), addslashes($products_name), MEDIUM_IMAGE_WIDTH, MEDIUM_IMAGE_HEIGHT, /* Begin add 2 of 2 by mc12345678 14-11-02 */ addslashes($parameters2) /* End add 2 of 2 by mc12345678 14-11-02 */ ) . '<br /><span class="imgLink">' . TEXT_CLICK_TO_ENLARGE . '</span></a>'; ?>');
//--></script>
<noscript>
<?php
echo '<a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_POPUP_IMAGE, 'pID=' . $_GET['products_id']) . '" target="_blank">' . zen_image($products_image_medium, $products_name, MEDIUM_IMAGE_WIDTH, MEDIUM_IMAGE_HEIGHT, /* Begin add 2 of 2 by mc12345678 14-11-02 */ addslashes($parameters2) /* End add 2 of 2 by mc12345678 14-11-02 */ ) . '<br /><span class="imgLink">' . TEXT_CLICK_TO_ENLARGE . '</span></a>';
?>
</noscript>
</div>
The above does not require any additional switch to turn on/off the zoom functionality as it is auto controlled when it comes to the builtin zoom functionality.
As for the other code to co-work with what cvhainb put together, well, the constant to check against is:
ZOOM_SMALL_IMAGES
and can be anded (&&) with the file_exists check above for the auto_loader file in each of the single lines.
If it really becomes something necessary to post, then can, but above uses the hover on image to enlarge
feature of IH4.
Peace.

Re: products_image_large equivalent
One caveat about the above solution is that it uses the large image when displaying the pop up. So for those that include both the default image and then upload a modified large image, the modified large image displays when using that above code.
For those that upload one image for the product image, then the popup image is the large version of that.
Additional images are untouched by the above.
Not sure how things work when something like a plugin that will swap the default product image with one of the additional images or swap with a product that has an image for the attributes will work/look. So application of the changed code for the product image would more than likely need to beapplied on a case-by-case basis until more is understood/determined.
