Jeffey, you're welcome for your help! Next time, you should explain it to yourself a little bit slower because I think you had a hard time understanding yourself. If you make it too difficult, you might not want to help yourself again later on. :wink:

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
:clap: You are absolutely AWESOME - I really like the way you explain things!! I'm really new to this & I like the way you explain the details, such as WHERE to find the files and HOW to insert/replace things. It's very helpful to someone like me - I have no idea where a lot of these files are located & what to do with them. You give the "Zen for Dummies" explanations, which is what *I* need!
OK...one more "dummies" question...how do you move/align your checkbox? Mine is to the left, where I want it, but it's above my "click here for insurance" instead of next to it.
Thanks again for all your help!

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Never mind...I answered my own question by playing around a little. Just in case anyone else was wondering, I changed the following from float to align. Not sure if both needed to be changed, but it's what I did & it seemed to work! :-)
LABEL.inputLabel {
width:100%;
align:left;
margin:0.3em 0;
}
LABEL.inputLabelPayment {
width: 14em;
align: left;
padding-left: 0em;

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
This thread has been very helpful. I believe I have this module just about right.
One thing I need help on. I am using Zone Rates for the Insurance pricing. When I checkout with an order or $275, I get the correct insurance of $4.60. However, it seems that once my order goes over $300, the insurance goes to $0.00.
Why is that?
Here are my Zone rates: 50:1.65,100:2.05,200:2.45,300:4.60,:400:5.50,500:6.40,600:7.30
Here are the rest of my settings:

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Also, when I checkout with a destination outside of my zone, I see the following error on the page:
Warning: constant(): Couldn't find constant MODULE_ORDER_TOTAL_INSURANCE_COST_0 in /home/mjmmagic/public_html/store/includes/modules/order_total/ot_insurance.php on line 227
Module displays the insurance fieldset when the zone matches (my zone is for the United States only). So when I switched to use a customer from Europe, I see the above error.
Any ideas how to suppress that error from displaying if the customer is outside the insurance table zone?
-
Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
I should also mention that I only have ONE ZONE configured. You see, I only want to offer insurance to customers within the USA. So I have a Zone which basically has the entire USA within it.
That is the zone 1 that I have configured with the following rates: 50:1.65,100:2.05,200:2.45,300:4.60,:400:5.50,500:6 .40,600:7.30
I don't have any other zones configured with the insurance module.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Hi Jeff,
I don't know if I can be a lot of help, but in order to get mine to calculate the insurance correctly, I set it to use the USPS Rates. Here's what my settings look like:
Shipping Insurance
Enable Insurance Module
true
Offer Shipping Insurance?
true
Sort Order
500
Use USPS Rates?
true
Alternate Insurance Type
percent
Insurance Percentage
5
Insurance Rate
$0.50
Increment Amount
$100.00
Amount Exempt From Fee
$100.00
Apply Insurance Fee To Which Orders
both
Tax Class
--none--
No Insurance Fee on Virtual Products
true
No Insurance Fee on Gift Vouchers
true
Not sure if that helps you at all, but I decided to go that route so if/when USPS increases rates again, it will (hopefully) calculate the increase automatically w/o the need to go back in & redo the tables. Hope that helps you some!

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Mindy,
Thanks for sticking your neck out and trying to help me. :)
Some of your values look different than mine. For example, I don't have anything that says "Use USPS Rates." Mine just says "Use Table Rates." I also don't have any variable that says "Apply Insurance Fee To Which Orders" like you do.
The version I am using is 3.10. Was there another Add-On or something that I may have missed?

I'll look into why it is doing this.
The reason she has different fields is because she is using an older version. The latest version supports multiple zones with a table rate so that you can change the rates from within the admin. The old version had a table rate built into the code that you would have to edit if rates changed. It was called the USPS table. Renaming it to Zones rate is more appropriate as it is not limited to only USPS. You could use the rates from any shipping company.

Numinix - The download file for v3.11 is corrupt, please reupload it to your site. Also, it looks like you forgot to rename the folder in the zip file. Thanks!

Reuploaded.
Folder was 3.11 which is the correct version number.

Has anyone had this problem..... I am using PayPal Website Payments Pro - works great. However, you are required to have PayPal express also installed. If a customer choses PayPal express - they are sent straight to the PayPal site and they do not see and therefore are not given the choice of getting insurance or not. Is this a problem with the program or am I missing something. Thanks

Yes, if they skip the checkout system, they will not be given the option to add insurance. This is not a bug.
If insurance is REQUIRED, you shouldn't be using any payment module that can skip the checkout...

I have no reason to change from PayPal Website Payments - PayPal says the PayPal Express is required? Is this really true? If so, is there a 'work around' for my insurance problem. Thanks for your help

The only thing I can think of is to create a product called "Insurance" and put a link to it in your cart during checkout with a note about it being required. Of course they could still checkout without it though. Its either that, or build it into your shipping costs either with the postage fees or with a handling fee.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Well, if it is a required amount, does it still get added? Because this is an order total module that is automatically added if required. Can you confirm this?
-
Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Hi, thanks for your answer
Well I don't want to offer a mandatory insurance, I just want to make it checked by default, so if customer don't want it they just have to uncheck it
Is there a way to do this?
Thanks

I just installed the Optional Shipping Insurance module. Installed went absolutely easy! So far, however, I haven;t been able to make it optional. Question: Is there a way to limit the insurance fee to just items shipped via USPS? UPS insurance is included in the UPS rate already.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
It would only be optional for purchases under $24.00. Also, your table rates at the bottom are completely wrong. You can't have USPS: or spaces between a number and its decimal place (i.e. 1 .50)...
At this moment there is no way to restrict to a shipping method. This would be in addition to or as a replacement for other insurance fees.

Aha! I understand about the inclusion of the USPS and the additional space on one of the values. Thanks a lot.
Any suggestions of how to set it up so that insurance is mandatory for only USPS customers? I can't legitimately charge UPS customers since the insurance is alreaady included in the UPS shipping charge. (Could I just set a standard fee and note it on the shipping choices selection for USPS and somehow figure a way to build it into the total as part of the "handling fee"?)
-
Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
If you are NOT using FEC, then you could make it so that the optional insurance doesn't apply if $_SESSION['shipping'] = whatever UPS is identified as.
Pretty simple if you know PHP. If you don't, look into having a programmer do this for you.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
I'm currently using Zones for International shipping, and 3 different (cloned) Table modules for the U.S. So far, I can't get the "Use Table Rates?" setting to work...
Now, the main problem is, if I list an "Insurance Rate" of $1.65 (standard for $0.01-$50.00), and have that increase by either $50 or $100 increments, the cost of insurance becomes inaccurate and excessive. Same with using a percentage...
Ideally, I'd like to use the hard-coded method of the older "shipping_insurance" module. Can the below code (from the older module) be integrated into 3.10?
#
#
# if (! $_SESSION['insurance']) {
$charge_it = 'false';
}
#
#
#
#
#
// use hard-coded usps rates
if ($ratetable == 'US') {
if ($order->info['subtotal'] < 50.01) {
$insurance = 1.65;
} else if ($order->info['subtotal'] < 100.01) {
$insurance = 2.05;
} else if ($order->info['subtotal'] < 200.01) {
$insurance = 2.45;
} else if ($order->info['subtotal'] < 300.01) {
$insurance = 4.60;
} else if ($order->info['subtotal'] < 400.01) {
$insurance = 5.50;
} else if ($order->info['subtotal'] < 500.01) {
$insurance = 6.40;
} else if ($order->info['subtotal'] < 600.01) {
$insurance = 7.30;
} else {
$insurance = 7.30 + ((($order->info['subtotal'] - 600) / 100) * 1.05);
}

The rates for UPS are given as the default rates when you first install the module. If you want to keep it this way, do not change anything and put use table rates.

Hi numinix,
Thanks for your reply. Like I said, I'm not using zones for the U.S. So, as I understand it (per your instructions), that won't work for me. I offer several table shipping methods (priority, firstclass & media mail; based on number of items), so one zone for the U.S. is not an option.
The only way I can make this "work", and not show $0.00 or make it mandatory, is to enter $1.65 in the Insurance Rate field. But increments of that amount quickly exceed the actual postal rates, and I don't really want that - I offer insurance as a service to my customers, not as a means to profit.
Hard-coding the rates (as in the earlier module) is the only thing that came to mind, as a "possible" solution. If that would in fact do the trick, I believe it would be an excellent option - I can't be the only one who would benefit from something like that.
-
Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
I don't see why you cannot "hard-code" the rates into the tables. That is what the table rate is for. It replaces the hard-coded rates before in exactly the same way but gives people more versatility in changing the rates or adding more rates for different zones.
It already creates a new table for every zone you have defined, what more could you ask for?

For it to work for me. : ) Seriously, this is a great contrib. I'm just trying to figure out how to replicate or incorporate the function of the original.
Just to clarify: I'm using 3 (cloned) table.php modules for U.S. shipping. I ship by count, not weight. I don't use the USPS module. I'm using zones for International shipping. I've tried adding extra zones for the US, but could only get 1 to display during checkout; so I went back to tables.
Either my scenario isn't compatible with this mod, or I'm doing something wrong. Any input would be appreciated.
-
Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
if each table.php is set to a different zone of the USA, that means you'd have 3 zones defined in your zones definitions.
This would cause the optional handling fee module to create three tables in your admin. You would then put in the rates in each table for each zone which your table rate module is set to.
-
Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Thanks for your time, numinix.

What I've been trying to reiterate is, I'm using 3 different shipping methods for the U.S. -- Media Mail, First Class and Priority -- and I've created a separate table.php for each (table.php, table2.php, table3.php).
I just want the "optional" insurance to display during checkout, where it can be added to the desired shipping method; and do so with proper rate increments. This was quickly and easily achieved with the previous ot_insurance module (with the hard-coded rates). Can this be reproduced with 3.10/11?

If your meaning is literal, I miss the connection. I include handling in the cost of shipping. If you mean additional input fields would be produced, for other values, then I'm still lost...
As you can tell, this really has me stumped... If you or anyone else could walk me thru the necessary steps, to accomplish what I'm trying to do, I'd be forever grateful. Seriously.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
As luck would have it, everything is now working correctly. Having tired many combinations of settings and tweaks, I can't relay a clear sequence. But all came together with my last reinstall of the insurance module - what wasn't there with prior reinstalls suddenly appeared! What a relief... Now it's time to back everything up. : )
-
Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
You need to define your zones BEFORE installing the module or it will not create a seperate table for each zone. They are created dynamically when you press install depending on the number of defined zones.
Glad you got it sorted out.

It is one of the few files included with the package.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
hi,
I got this installed and it seems to be working, but a few questions:
1. how can I make this optional? I want it to be optional if they choose to purchase insurance.
2. how can I use real, live USPS rates?
3. how hard is it to make it if they choose UPS to not charge insurance (since UPS is covered up to $100 for free)?
thanks,

why are their examples different?

ok my last post was jibberish as I was responding to the posts on page 11. Sorry.
I am having the same problems as some of the others here.
I am using USPS api but there is no option to make that choice with this insurance module?
I uninstalled and reinstalled under modules/shipping and some other options showed up, but not the one where i want to use the usps real time rates.
Any help would be gratefully and hearfelt-fully accepted.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
I’ve come upon an interesting issue. It seems that when I designate an amount in the Required Insurance Amount field, the module will not offer the insurance option for that specific amount only. i.e. if I set it for $500 it does not offer the check box to add optional insurance nor does it automatically add the insurance cost. Which the latter should follow since the order is not over the pre-designated amount. However an order total of $499 and $501 work fine. I’ve gotten around this by specifying the Required Insurance Amount as an uneven number such as $499.66, feeling pretty sure that an order total on my site will more than likely never amount to that. Is this a known issue or have I just set up something wrong?
-
Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Ok here's an interesting question....
Can this be used but charge $0 for the insurance? I'm working on a site and I have installed 3 table rate clones. Basically we only offer 3 fixed shipping rates. What I need is a checkbox option during checkout for "hold shipment at Fedex facility for pickup" and I thought I could use this contribution, only with no additional charge for the option....
ideas?
-
Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Would be better of to just create another module that displays a checkbox and stores it as a 1 or a 0 in the orders table.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
I am using this module but on one of my sites I offer free shipping over $50....I do not want to off free insurance though. Right now if the order is over $50 then the optional insurance box goes away and the insurance is added into the total as $0.00
Is there any solution to this?
Thanks!

Hi! I am using the shipping insurance mod and we offer free shipping on orders over $75 and the shipping insurance comes up just fine on the payment information page. I don't know what I'm doing differently than you are, but I pasted my settings below so you can compare. Hope this helps!

Thank you SO MUCH!!! I changed all of my settings to match yours and it still didn't work....I went back through and there was a : in the wrong place! All fixed THANKS a TON!!!

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
I think that may have been there as a bug, or rather typo in the default value for the table. It should be fixed in the latest version or in my unreleased version at least :p

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Hi folks,
I'm trying to get shipping insurance to work on one of my sites, and I'm seeing no change in the totals. I had the earlier 2b version installed (apparently not working either, unbeknownst to me), just upgraded to 3.13 and still no go. I'm running Zen 1.3.7 on this store.
In a post a short while ago someone listed their settings as:
Shipping Insurance
Enable Insurance Module
true
Offer Shipping Insurance?
true
Sort Order
500
etc..
My settings show:
Shipping Insurance
Enable Insurance Module
true
Sort Order
500
(ie there's no "Offer Shipping Insurance?" line). I'm guessing that may be part of the problem.
I'm also seeing no matches on a search of the db for "insurance" or "insur" other than what appears to be some built in FedEx insurance stuff.
Thanks

I had exactly the same experience: Installed v3.13 (without table and SQL) and was able to select options normally in admin>modules>order total but no Shipping Insurance information of any kind at checkout. I removed v3.13 and replaced with version 3.10 and all is well. I, too, an running a fresh install of Zen 1.3.8a.
Thanks motherthemother for the tip!

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Hi, I have this module installed and it works wonderfully, thank you!
But I have one question, I offer free s&h in the US for orders of $300+ and I would like for the insurance to be free as well, I don't want to charge for insurance and not charge for shipping, is there a way to modify the code to achieve this??
Thank you.

Downgrading shouldn't matter. If you do not have the international_zones.sql installed, setting a zone to "none" will cause that table to be deactivated. This is why the a zone that includes ALL ZONES has been included with the package. A new version is being released now with other bug fixes.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Thank you, I upgraded to v3.15 and is working with the int'l zone. Only thing is that the insurance rates are not matching USPS rates when I add different totals to the cart. The more the total is, the less the correct insurance amount matches what it should be. Thoughts?

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Hi -
I've downloaded the optional shipping insurance module and installed it, but I don't see it showing up on my page where it said it should (or anywhere else for that matter!) I have a new install of ZC - v1.3.8a - and have installed only my CC gateway (Securepay), and USPS shipping (webtools) besides this module, and would like to know if someone can take a look at my settings and see what I have done wrong (I've watched for "bugs" in the codes etc. ie: and extra : or , where they shouldn't be and have not found any as yet).
Here's what my settings are:

I don't know what I have set wrong - other than I realize I don't want to have "all zones" or "all countries" set with the same amount of insurance - as they differ. I was trying anything to get it to show up - so I just left it that way for now. I don't know the use of zones - as I ship virtually everywhere - so I don't really have a need for zones - OR DO I? I guess I may not understand what is meant by zones in this case.
Please explain it if you can - so I can fix this! Thanks,

When I disable the insurance module it goes away. Seems something with the zoning settings. When I use the old values or new values, it gives me the error :(

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
I'm with the others. I installed the latest version on 1.3.7 and can't see it showing up on my front end. I see it in in Order Total and think I have all the settings correct but am not sure why I don't see it in checkout.
Also, pardon my ignorance, but I've read the info on making insurance mandatory but for the life of me, I can't figure out which line to replace. Can you please let me know what the line was (what the text was) before the replacement?
Thanks!

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Hello!
Anybody????
Is there a way for this module to detect when shipping is free and not charge insurance? it makes no sense if I'm offering free shipping but insurance is still charged.... anyone has any idea? any script that would do just that??
Thank you!

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
This module doesn't seem to be working with Linkpoint API. Whenever I checkout using the shipping insurance, the card is declined and we get the following error:
Result:
(
[r_csp] =>
[r_time] =>
[r_ref] =>
[r_error] => SGS-020003: Invalid XML
[r_ordernum] =>
[r_message] =>
[r_code] =>
[r_tdate] =>
[r_score] =>
[r_authresponse] =>

)
Has anyone else gotten this to work with Linkpoint API? It works great with PayPal and Check/Money Order, but we need it to work with the Linkpoint in order to accept credit cards.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Actually, I just found my answer! In the language file, I had edited the display and added some hidden HTML to make the text red in color. That apparently was the issue. When I removed it, everything worked fine.

Just wanted to add my three cents to this thread.. Neither versions 3.13 or 3.15 work at all with a fresh install of Zen 1.3.8a. The checkbox to add the optional insurance does not appear in step 2 of the the checkout. I uninstalled and replaced with v 3.10. It's working perfect.. checkbox shows in step 2 as expected..
Is it possible that the issue might be related to the fact that the option in the admin settings "Offer Shipping Insurance?" is missing in versions 3.13 or 3.15..

It is supposed to remove the cost of free shipping items from the order_total and base the insurance on the remainder. Perhaps set your first table rate to 0:0.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
I didn't know on my host that when I upgraded to the newest ZenCart with Fantasico that all my work would be overwritten- including the insurance option I had installed with the insurance module. So I had to install the module again, but this time I downloaded the newest one- it didn't work correctly for me. :wacko:
So I downloaded Version: 3.10 and installed and it works like a charm! Allowing buyer to tick a box if they want insurance and in the settings I have it set to USPS rates and it puts the correct amount in according to the total amount in their shopping cart.
Hope this helps other struggling with offering insurance on their shipments to customers.

Thank you, that's what is doing right now, but I would like it to remove the insurance costs completely when shipping is free, is that possible?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Before the process even begins you could add a check to see if shipping is free and if so...
PHP Code:
$this->enabled = false;
It's a good idea so I'll add it sometime in the future.

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Hi numinix, thank you for getting back at me.
Maybe I'm not putting the piece of code in the right place, but where I'm putting it is not working. The insurance is still coming up even through I have selected free shipping for orders of $200 or more. The shipping comes free in my shopping cart but the insurance still comes up.
Could you tell me where exactly I should place the piece of code??
Thank you.

You've set for insurance to be required for amounts over $100, therefore it is not optional.

Then I go into one of the files (english/modules/order_total/***.php) and change the jive about insurance to read "Check this for Delivery Confirmation..."
My point is people all over this board are looking for a way to charge a fee during checkout for an added service - be it gift wrapping (per product is too cumbersome for some) or what I included. There is one mod for such an add on but it didn't work for me, is unsupported and far too complicated.
Woo Hoo!
Chris
Hello Plumloopy,
Did you use this suggestion that you made? If so, do you think I could follow your suggestion of creating a Delivery Confirmation version of the .php file, in conjunction with using the mod as it was intended, so that we can:
1) charge a $0.75 Delivery Confirmation charge only for USPS Parcel Post (since it costs extra for this option), and
2) offer the option of adding shipping insurance to orders, and
3) make shipping insurance mandatory n orders over a certain amount?
Thanks in advance to Plumloopy and anyone else who can weigh in!

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Great Mod, but it seems to be a bit wonky with how it is handling tax.
I am testing on a fresh install of 1.3.8a using 3.13 of this mod.
Instead of adding the tax to the tax line it adds it to it's self in the insurance line?
My tax rate is set at 9%. and Insurance is set at $5.00 and shipping is taxed.
Sub-Total: $110.00
Flat Rate (Best Way): $5.00
Shipping Insurance: $5.45
WA Sales Tax: $10.35
Total: $130.80
If I set Display Prices with Tax to true it adds the the tax to it's self twice.
Sub-Total: $110.00
Flat Rate (Best Way): $5.00
Shipping Insurance: $5.90
WA Sales Tax: $10.35
Total: $130.80
The math for the total is correct for either situation. $120.00 x .09 = $10.80 so the total $130.80 in either calculation is correct.
Thanks,
Jim

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Comparing this module to the COD Fee module I see that it hasn't been scripted to display tax in the same way other order total modules do. No $order->info['tax_groups'][$tax_description] line is present so it appears to have gone rouge in the way it handles taxes.
I will look into re-scripting it to get working like the others unless someone wants to beat me to it. My PHP is just barely past....
PHP Code:
echo Hello Universe;

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Wow three posts in a row.
So it I discovered version 3.15 (not currently in the downloads) which addresses how the mod handles tax but with a bug. Changing the tax class to none will still charge tax, not a problem for me but still a bug.
Version 3.13 and 3.15 do not work if Use Table Rates? is set to false unless you pick a zone. This would explain why the shipping insurance isn't showing up for some users. But it did not work when I created a zone for all countries and all zones and picked it.
When using the Alternate Insurance Type set to amount it is including the shipping cost in the calculation but it does not when the Alternate Insurance Type is set to percent.
Now this one is strange, when the Alternate Insurance Type set to amount not only does it include the shipping amount for calculating the insurance it adds the Increment Amount one more time than it should. This also does not occur when the Alternate Insurance Type is set to percent.
One other strange bug with version 3.13, while examining the Alternate Insurance Type set to amount issue, if I setup flat shipping for $0.00 we get some very strange output as you can see here, tax is set to 9% and shipping insurance is set at $1.00 for every $10.00.
Sub-Total: $100.00
Flat Rate (Best Way): $0.00
Shipping Insurance: $10.09
WA Sales Tax: $9.00
Total: $119.90

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
I need my insurance tax based on shipping, right now it's only basing it on the address of the person who signed up. any Ideas ast to how I can fix this?

Re: Optional Shipping Insurance Module Support Thread...
Thanks so much for this mod! Finally got it working after installing the SQL patch - didn't realize that you really need it for this to work, whether you ship internationally or not.
I hope this hasn't been answered and I'm just missing it, but my client ships both UPS and USPS and they both have different table rates. Is there anything in the mod that allows for this? We are requiring insurance. The rates are not so different but USPS allows for insurance at $1, I believe and UPS includes insurance up to $100 and then starts adding. So, if someone chooses UPS, the way we have it set up now, they'll get charged either $1.70 or $2.15 too much (USPS ins. rates for $50 and $100).
The client is doing offline processing so it's not that huge of a deal but I think there will be some confused customers.
Has anyone else run into this? Is there any solution?
Thanks,
Janelle
