Hi
I just did the same thing and solved it. In your store, where you enter the google analytics info on the configuration menu, did you enclose the tracking code with script, then end script? Remove them and it should work. What it did was put it in the middle of another script code, splitting the scripts and end scripts.

Thanks for your effort. No matter where I look, I can't find it, even with firebug.
Feel so lame. Here is the code you requested.
<!--eof- banner #6 display -->
<?php
if (GOOGLE_ANALYTICS_TRACKING_TYPE == "Asynchronous") {
// Do nothing
} else {
require(DIR_WS_TEMPLATE . 'google_analytics/google_analytics.php');

Linda,
Just saw your recommendation, and did it. And the code snippet disappeared. Very pleased. Now I can figure out what the information is telling me, and I don't have dirty laundry across my site.
Thanks again,
Marc

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Just as an FYI for anyone using the plug-in currently: I'm building the Universal Analytics into this next release as well. But to get it working in the meantime, use the section of the current plugin (in the admin) that lets you add your own custom code snippet. I believe Linda mentioned this below as well.
The next release has a ton of new things in it so it should be a welcome site for many.

Hi, can you please let me know where did you place the analitics code which google give you. Thank you
(function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){
(i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o),
m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m)
})(window,document,'script','//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga');

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
You shouldn't need to place that anywhere just use the UA-XXXXXX-X code in the admin configuration->Simple Google Analytics

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I'm having some issues with this mod and a site. For some reason, whenever I do the sql update using this mod, I get a error screen that say's "WARNING: An Error occurred, please refresh the page and try again." and this page sqlpatch.php?action=execute at the end of my domain.com/admin Is there a way I can see exactly what error is happening, or any ideas? I have a few different sites, and this one mod is only giving me issues on one site. It's a dreamhost hosted site, and I'm on 1.5.1

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
What version of the Simple GA mod are you using? I've seen this happen when you try to install a module (any mod) and it 'fails' (usually the first time) then you try to reinstall but not all of the items from the prior install (database entries) are removed / or the configuration ids are mixed up from that install.
On this site in question, did you have another version of GA already installed when you tried to install this one?
Let me know on those and I'll see what I can do to help you work through it. In the worst case senerio you can go into phoMyAdmin and manually remove the entries for the mod then reinstall from the SQL patch in the zen admin to get that to work.
No need to remove files--just the db entries.
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I'm using the newest version out, whatever's on the top of the download page. This was a "New" install of the 1.5.1, although I did have the older version working on my 1.3.9 site. When I upgraded to the 1.5.1, I did bring my database along, perhaps something in there is causing havoc. The only thing I don't understand is I run two sites, and I upgraded the two of them at the same time, and they are very similar. Only one of them is giving me the issues though. Is there something I should look for in my database? I ran the un-install script just to see if that would work, but I still get the error whenever I do the install SQL.
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Yeah, even running the install script (depending on if there is something left over from the other install (usually relating to a different config group id from the rest of the entries)... which it sounds like to me there might be) would not prevent what you are seeing. I've got that on a few sites myself when installing for others and I solved the problem by going into phpMyAdmin and manually removing the entries related to Simple Google Analytics (make a note of anything like 'analytics numbers etc...' that you will need to plug back in on the install.) The two main tables that hold the information for that version are the configuration tables (groups and standard). If you search for the google analytics items then you should see the entries. Very that is all you are removing then checkmark all items and 'delete'. Yes to confirm.
Once this is done reinstall the new patch in the admin (copy and paste).
Let me know if that helps.
I've been working on this new version which does a lot of things including making install and debugging issues easier and that should be ready very soon here. It also adds a lot of new features into the mix that can be used within Google Anlaytics.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Hello,
I just installed your google analytics system on my site with zencart. I input the tracking code in the menu, however I'm not seeing any statistics from google after 3 days. When I view the page source info I don't see the analytics code, just a not saying <!--google analytics code--> at the end.
Can you help me figure out what happened?
The website: www.semiwiki.com/zencart
Thank you!

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Sorry for your issue, but I would recommend with replacing with easy google analytics. It supports universal tracking as well. You may need to wait a day or two to finish it going through plugin moderation. But is much better I feel then simple google analytics.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
you need admin access in your GA account. Then you'll find those under the "Admin" section (upper right hand corner of the screen). GO there then you'll see a number of options. One of those is Goals. Go into that and set goals accordingly.
It automatically tracks Ecommerce Transactions BUT you need to tell Google Analytics that you are an "Ecommerce Site" for that to show up in your GA reports. Do that in the settings / admin section as well for the Profile you are working with.
For PPC tracking you need to enter your PPC Tracking ID in the Simple GA interface (Zen Admin). Then turn on Conversion Tracking from within the Zen Admin as well. That is how you track PPC. You may also want to link your Google Analytics account to your Google Adwords account to get cross tracking that way as well (but not required.)
Let me know if you have any problems and need more help with it.
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
The next version here of Simple GA (just about to release here) supports Universal Tracking as well as a load of other items that are now available within Google (some little known ones as well), Adwords, and a a few other PPC tracking systems as well. So it has moved to a full out tracking suite for the most part (thus the time needed to revamp it. ) :)

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I have had this mod working for awhile but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the ecommerce part to work, I have searched the forum and found a lot of questions but very few answers. I have my GA account set-up to track ecommerce so everything on that end seems to be fine. I thought this mod automatically installed the code to track ecommerce but either it didn't or I screwed it up on install. Not even sure where to start. I am using ZC 1.5.1 and as far as I know the latest release of Simple GA. The website is crystals-place.com if that helps at all.

I wasn't able to get it to work and once we forked into http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1827
we were able to re-write the code and make it function better, as it was missing a DB define I think

Yes, it should work automatically. I have installed this on many sites with no issues, as long as the ecommerce setting is turned on in google. You may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling? Have you ever had an older version of this mod or any other code relating to analytics on the site? Perhaps there is some old code somewhere interfering.

just the first one I installed and then this one now, I will give it a few days and see if it works. It is still a very new site so we don't necessarily get sales everyday yet to let me know if it is working, if not I am sure I will be back lol Thanks for the help

When you are in analytics and viewing ecommerce transactions, if you look in the upper right at the date range, you will notice it's always a day behind by default. Google says transactions can take 24 hours to show up, but I've found they generally show up much faster, but you have to adjust that date range to include today's date. When I do test transactions, I can usually see them within a few minutes as long as I update the date range.
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
ok maybe I will give that a shot then once I get through a few pages of my to-do BINDER loll I miss the good ole days when I only had a list
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Yes, this module automatically tracks ecommerce transactions as long as you turn that feature on from within the Zen Cart admin (configuration section) and also activate "Ecommerce Tracking" from within your Google Analytics Account.
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
There are two different Google Analytics Modules. One is called Google Analytics by Andrew (which apparently has some native issues and problems with tracking) and then there is the one I created called Simple Google Analytics. If you had the prior version installed, it includes a number of files that are not needed in my version. If that is the case, you may want to make sure you completely remove all files and db entries for that version before you re-install my version (the Simple Google Analytics one.)

upgrading from 1.2.5 to 1.2.6 on zc 1.3.9h
zc 1.3.9h
A couple months ago within Google Analytics I upgraded to Universal Analytics. No obvious issues, but I noticed a few days ago that the tracking code on mysite was not the new Universal code and figured I better upgrade SGA.
I had 1.2.5 installed and upgraded to 1.2.6 today, copying the only file with changes, includes/templates/mytemplate/google_analytics/google_analytics.php
The old tracking code is still showing on my site. You had mentioned in November that the new version of SGA would have support for Universal Analytics, which I assume means version 1.2.6 released in Dec 2013? Or has that feature not been added yet for zc 1.3.9h?

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Hi I have this module installed:
Date Added: 08/23/2013
Last Modified: 09/26/2013
On My zen cart 1.5.1
I seem to be having an issue whereby my adwords sales are tracked and counted twice;
EG: sale today of 141.00 appears in the adwords account as a sale of 282.00
Any ideas what is the cause of this double calculation and also when is the release of the upcoming update?
Many Thanks
Regards
Renz
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
The only way that sales are typically tracked twice is if there are two versions of the code snippet installed. In most cases this likely means that someone manually installed some Google tracking code somewhere in the site (footer file?) and then you installed the Simple Google Analytics module which automatically inserted the code as well. So you would see duplicate sales reporting etc.. in those cases.
The easiest way to find if this is the case is to do a 'view source' (from a browser) while looking at your site. If you find your Google Tracking id listed twice anywhere on the page, then you'll need to remove one of them. In the case of conversion tracking (which only occurs / triggers on the sale success page) you may need to run a test order and then view source on that page to see it it has been duplicated.)
Let me know if this helps.
New update should be released here in the next day or so. This new update has a framework change (will not affect current installs and upgrades very easily) that positions the module for integration with our new 'SMART suite' of tools / modules. So it has been sometime in the making. In the end, the result will be a module that positions stores to have the tools needed to really increase sales and run a profitable online business.
Regardless of the update however, the duplicate order tracking is a result of duplicated code more than likely and would still exist until you remove one of the two snippets.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I have installed SGA 1.2.6 in to my 1.5.1 zen cart and started an analytics account at google. How long does it take for stats to appear in analytics on a brand new account? Also, how do I test my side that the analytics code is work in on my pages? Can I use something like firebug in chrome (on a mac) to view? which pages should the analytics code be found on - all to just some? Thanks
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Should be a few hours but may take 24. You can view the source code of your page to confirm the tracking code is there. If you want help, post your url here.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Ok, thanks for the help. Is there anything special I need to do at the google side? I followed the instructions at the end of the read me and also used this article as a reference, although this article seems a little old (I picked it up from an old post in general questions) as Google has changed the look of the procedures, but I think I have covered off what is included in this article. Or could you point me to a newer one perhaps?

Hello Eric,
I am about to install the module on a new site. Will upgrading from simple to universal be easy or shall I wait for the universal release for a 'fresh' install?
Thanks!

Universal Tracking Isn't Supported in Simple Google Analytics, try a forked version. Easy Google Analytics.

-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Thanks for this. I'll try and add the code manually first .... if not successful I'll go with this one module.
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Yes, this will be a very simple upgrade even if you have any other version installed. This update is a major release and does include a vast amount of new data provided by Google (and other tools) as well as includes Universal Analytic capability. This new version will give you access to a lot of tools which should help you truly understand what your analytics means and thus help you make more money from your site. Analytics is good, actionable analytics is better. :)
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Please see my prior post below. The suite does have complete Universal Analytics built in. I've been running it on a few sites and it works extremely well (covers a few bugs that arose when the original module was updated by others to fit 1.5x etc... The later module versions (outside of the last version I wrote) have issues that cause them to not track conversion etc... accurately due to the way they were implemented.
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Okay. When do you expect the suite to be available?
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
It is basically ready to go here. I am starting with the Google Analytics module as the first "plugin" for the suite. There are a number of others that are already being used on sites as well which will be released shortly after the initial framework release. If you want to PM me I will add the Universal Tracking bit to your current install and then when you upgrade to the full suite that will remain as is. Just let me know.
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Eric, we have been hearing about this update you are going to put out for many months now where is it..... :)
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
It has been a complete re-write that is built into a new framework which has new update features and more. So it has been a big overhaul of original code (taking it out of the 'standard module' concept and more into a 'framework' concept which should help with all my mods in the future). I like to test on various sites before I release to public to make sure all is working and a few sites have been doing that the past few months. I think all looks good here and I will be officially releasing the first part of the plugin here it appears within the week (for sure.)
Once released there will be a number of updates (easily done from in the admin) based on new features we are adding to the current sites as well (but not quite ready for 'release' as of yet.) These are all plugins to the original code and again should easily be 'plug and play' type of deals.
-

-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I have installed Simple Google Analytics tracking on my client's cart per the instructions but it is not tracking visitors to the cart.
Cart version is 1.3.9
Any ideas of what to try?
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
A few things to check:
1) Make sure that you have the proper tracking ID for analytics listed in the Admin. You'll find this tracking id in your Google Analytics account.
2) Make sure the tracking code is actually on the page (View Source to see if it is there.)
Do you have a URL I can look at? That might help determine if the code is in place and the tracking id is accurate.
Those would be the first two areas to look. If those don't work out we can check others options.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Hi,
I've attempted to install this enhancement to v1.51 but I'm having problems following the instructions in the install.txt. For example, the following instruction refers to tpl_main_page.php in the /includes/templates/[your_template]/common/ directory. That file does not exists in the directory (when [your_template] is converted to my template name).
###################################################################
##### STEP 3: (Make alterations to tpl_main_page.php file) ########
###################################################################
#### PART A: ####
At the bottom of /includes/templates/[your_template]/common/tpl_main_page.php
Copy and paste the following lines of code (found below) just before the </body> tag:
I've searched this forum for "google analytics tpl_main_page" but there are way too many matches to go through all of them.
I assume I can find the file referred to above in my installation but now I'm wondering how reliable the instructions are. Are there any other more complete installation instructions?
thanks,
Jim

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
If that page does not exist, you need to copy it from /includes/templates/template_default/common/tpl_main_page.php

Hi,

In the google_analytics.php file on line 84-85 original file is:

Should be:

This way the WC3 validation is fine.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I am also fairly new to Zen Cart, and would like to install Simple Google Analytics. Have downloaded the plug-in, but have not yet installed it, as I have questions on the instructions. Posts 2060-2062 answered the first question. The next question has to do with renaming and loading the files from the new-installation folder. As I understand it, I am to rename "admin" to my template, which would be "merlin" and /includes/templates/your_template to /includes/templates/merlin. But then, where do I put them (left myself open for this one, but please go easy!)? Do I put both under .../includes/templates/merlin? That would make it look like ...includes/templates/merlin/merlin... and ...includes/templates/merlin/includes... Is that correct? If not, what do I do?
Thanks, Phil

If I remember Google remarketing correctly, it requires separate code placed on your site. This is just for analytics tracking.
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Since there isn't an Easy Google Analytics (2.1.5) thread, I'm posting a query here. I'm on ZenCart v1.5.1. I was previously using Simple Google Analytics (1.2.6).
In includes/templates/<your template>/common/html_header.php, there's this line:
PHP Code:
/**
* include content from all site-wide jscript_*.php files from includes/templates/YOURTEMPLATE/jscript, alphabetically.
* These .PHP files can be manipulated by PHP when they're called, and are copied in-full to the browser page
*/
require($template->get_template_dir('.php',DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'jscript') . '/' . $value); echo "\n";
}
This seems to included the includes/templates/<your template>/jscript/jscript_google_analytics.php which will include google_analytics.php already.
So the additional line in tpl_main_page.php is redundant...
PHP Code:
<?php
if (GOOGLE_ANALYTICS_TRACKING_TYPE != "Asynchronous") {
require(DIR_WS_TEMPLATE . 'google_analytics/google_analytics.php');
}
?>
My question is, should one of it be removed?

1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'TYPE=MyISAM' at line 1

If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.
Any ideas?

Yep, TYPE=MyISAM is the problem. Change it to ENGINE=MyISAM.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Hi,
I have installed this plugin on 2 of my sites for the purpose of ecommerce tracking and on one it works great, but on the other it doesnt track almost any sales! Once in a while it does.
Any ideas of what could be the cause of this? Reinstalled a few times...
Thanks!

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Need more information. The url to the broken site would be helpful.

Hi Jim,
Yes, I have it running on a number of sites here.
I just need to finally package it up and upload to the downloads section.
I'll make it a point to package it up and get ready this week. While waiting for it to be accepted into the downloads section I'll upload to my site and provide a link to it for those that want it sooner.
All apologies for the delays. Been working on a number of website design projects for ecommerce clients and that has taken a good amount of time.
Eric

Yes, it is still the recommended plugin for tracking. I have tested the others out there and all have issues with tracking due to various reasons. In addition, they lack the added features that Google provides.
I have updated a number of my older plugins and also have developed quite a few more (not yet released). The reason I have not uploaded is that I have packaged them into a more 'centralized system' so that in the future, all plugins I develop are easily updated (one click is the goal) and easily managed (all from one location instead of needing to go to multiple locations for updating and downloading.
This package should be ready soon. I've been busy building a number of ecommerce sites for clients and that has taken a little time away from actually packaging this up here.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Does this work on 1.5.3? I followed the instructions to the 'T' and it is NOT..WORKING. Google keeps saying "Tracking not installed"
UGH

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Yes, it works in 1.5.3. Check that installation. :-)

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Hi
I am using Simple Google Analytics 1.2.6 with ZC V1.5.0 and the standard "green" template. It works great thanks.
Contrary to the principle "if it ain't broke don't fix it"! I ran the Google Tag checker and that came up with some suggestions which I show below (I searched this thread but found nothing on this topic).
As I said it works fine but should I worry about these?;
Suggestion: Deprecated method used: '_initData' more info
Suggestion: Deprecated method used: '_trackPageLoadTime' more info
Suggestion: Consider update to the async version
Many thanks

Easy Google Analytics supports the latest Universal tracking method, which is what we suggest everyone upgrade to use: http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1827.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I see that Google began collecting data and is displaying some stats. However, my site has made a couple of sales but Google Analytics has not recorded these as conversions.
Does anyone know why this would be?

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I made the upgrade to "Easy" but had a couple of problems that I reported here; http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.p...ight=Analytics
I assume that was the best place?

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
The new simple GA does support Universal tracking as well as a number of other items relating to PPC. You'll need to get a direct copy from me at the moment (PM me) as the 'pretty package' package is being completed.

Simple Google Analytics doesn't support this.
Try Easy Google Analytics.

It's a fork of Simple Google Analytics with an automatic upgrade script to go from simple google analytics to easy google analytics

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
What version are you using? Keep in mind that conversions are "conversions from PPC" (paid search.)
If you are running PPC and not getting conversions, it could be that the sales you got came from Organic sources and not PPC (which would only track if the visitor first clicks an ad then converts.)
Let me know if that helps.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Actually Simple Google Analytics fully supports this from the first version. Read the above comment to find out why the tracking may be thought to be off for conversions.
The Easy Google Analytics mod definitely has major issues with tracking conversion due to the way it is setup. I've heard this from a lot of others, and in my testing found the same to be true.
The Simple GA tracking is the only accurate solution to date that I am aware of and is being used in over 7,000 stores at the moment with no issues.
Hope that helps!

There was an older version that did have a bug that Numinix fixed.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Hi Eric,
I'm trying to get Adwords conversion tracking working with ZC 1.3.9h and SGA Plugin 1.2.4. We only use PayPal for our payment method, I think this may require placing code on the auto return URL after PayPal payment. (https://myZCdomain.com/webstore/inde...eckout_process) I may be able to figure it out but thought I would ask before melting my brain too bad... Thanks --Ron

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Hi Ron!
Follow the normal directions on install and it should work just fine. The module auto inserts the proper code onto the right pages (you are using an older version of the module and eventually should update, but that still works just fine ... I know a lot of people still using that version.)
Once you install the module just turn on conversion tracking from the admin. Regardless of whether you use PayPal and / or another payment method, it should work just fine. If you need help verifying it is correct, just let me know and I'll take a look for you.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Hello,
I am trying to install your plugin/module and I am having some issues. When I paste the required code at the bottom of my tpl_main_page.php, it is removing my closing body and html tags, as if there is an error that is occurring. Has any one else experienced this? Help?!
Thanks!
Lisa

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Paste the code into the file just before the </body> tag. Do not remove any existing code or tags.
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I've seen this happen when users in accidentally alter the code they paste (the snippet that goes into the main page tpl file).
Make sure that you have not removed any php tags in the inserted code and / or have not accidentally removed any syntax within that either.
If you need me to take a look to debug just let me know and I'd be happy to.
