I can't recreate this problem. Per Numinix a lot people who has a lot of products have timing out problems. They have to move to a dedicated server or even a VPS to solve the problem. Sorry I wasn't able to help you.

its ok, not your fault lol
hmmm not sure about moving to VPS etc...
although with VPS, is PCI compliance easier to get than with shared hosting?

any reccomendations on spec for a VPS and possible hosts??

The restrictions imposed on providers to achieve PCI compliance make it just about impossible to offer a PCI compliant shared hosting environment. Dedicated servers would be the only way to ensure 100% PCI Compliance and even then would only apply if the whole hosting company itself was PCI Compliant.

You never did Post the information from the log file that would have been generated as a result of the error in you cache folder.

You probably have too many products. Exclude some categories and try again, that usually fixes the timeout issue

I have around 38,000 products. One cat has around 60 subcats, with around 16,000 prods. I excluded that category and I don't have timeout issues anymore.

excluded all categories apart from 1(with 11k of items in it)
and it still failing :S

just restricted all categories apart from 1 with 56 items in it and it still fails :S
