Can anyone give a step by step tutorial in setting up attributes?
I've read this entire thread and still cannot work out how to get my stock functions to work how I would like.
Item Colour InStock
ABC RED 4
ABC BLUE 2
ABC GREEN 0
I want to be able to do the whole drop down selection for colours or sizes (not tshirts but various products) and am having trouble with the whole attributes thing.
Sorry for asking noob questions.
Excuse the simple question, but have you installed Attributes by Stock?
What Zen version, what Attributes by Stock version are you running?

Are you using a custom template? If so, did you remember to rename the admin folder before uploading the files?
If that's not it, I would just download the mod again, then upload the admin files to your server again. Maybe one of your files was bad.

I am running the Stock by Attributes module for 1.3.6 but for some reason it is not subtracting the inventory for each attribute.
I also have SEO friendly urls mod installed.

I really need some help with this...
Heres the problem..
Shoe store ... www.foureverfunky.com ... running ZC 1.3.6 ... latest attributes by stock version.
"I have over sold a style of boots. In the Attributes Quantity, I had entered qty. 1 and I have sold 2. Style Sandy in white size 7.5."
All it shows, when the customer is going to check out, is that the product is out of stock and will be on back order, it still lets the customer make the transaction. We want it to stop the customer from being able to buy that quantity and be able to only purchase the quantity available.
Backorder does not exist for us, our products are usually unique.

I've done everything lese for this except the 1st step: 'Create a new database table and a new configuration switch by running the 'stock_attribute.sql' via Admin->Tools->Install SQL Patches. If you prefer to use another method to create this table, you will need to edit the file if you use a prefix such as "zen_" for your tables.'Quote:

I have finally installed the mod and it's working and I'm really excited as I really, really, really need this.
However ..... (haha) I now have a prob or 2.
I have an item, beads in diff colors so I've set up the colors. I have started setting up the qties for each individual color available. And I also have price breaks on the item.
One of the colors costs 0.15 less than the rest. So I set the product price as 2.45 and that particular color I set it at -0.15, the rest are all +0.00.
When I add the lesser costing color to cart the price shows as 0.00 but when i add one of the others the price displays correctly. However, when I enter a quantity which should give me a discount, it doesn't.
I am using ZCv1.2.7 and mod version 4.4. Any ideas?
Also, I've read a few ppl talking about wanting to show the quantities available for each diff option but I haven't seen clear instructions on how to set it up or if it is available or not for this version. Is it?

Also, I used checkbox instead of dropdown. I was hoping that by using checkbox customers would be able to choose a combination of the different colors and get a price discount rather than having to buy a set quantity per color to get the discount.
Is that posible somehow? As I said b4 it isn't discounting at all even when I add the same color but even when i tried to check 2 colors and then add to cart it comes up as sold out even thought both colors have stock available. So I'm thinking the checkbox option may not be posible.

Here's an interesting twist. I added an attribute to another product which also has price discounts. When I entered the qty required for the dicount it worked.
But it definitely cannot add multiple color choices at once and offer a discount. Which I'm spewing about as I was hoping to offer my customers discounts on the same porduct regardless of the color choices. It looks as though they will need to buy x amount of each color to get a discount.
Unless I haven't set it up right, if anyone else has it working in this manner, do not hesitate to share it with us please.

Ok, ignore all of the above. Whatever the problem was, it only had to do with the one product I was working with. Price discount work across the board and all seems well.
The only question I have now is, is it posible to display the attributes pics horizontally rather then verticaly? And is it posible to display each attributes qty available on the product info page?

I downloaded and installed Stock By Attribute 4.4 with Zencart 1.37 and everything seems to be working. However, we are having issues with it allowing customers to check out with more items than are available without giving our "insufficient stock" message. It is only after I place 21 in the cart that I get an "insufficient stock" message. It appears that the program is not checking individual stock - only total.

The person in the best position to do this is Langer, the developer of Easy Populate. However, now is not a good time to do it, as the stock by attribute functions are scheduled to be taken into the core Zen Cart code in its next major release. So development work undertaken now, is likely to be wasted.Quote:

I have alot of products that are unlimited in stock.
(Because they are from companies that drop ship for me..)
So I just had them set Small Medium Large
But now, the problem I am having is the products that I did not set each stock level to, now marks them out of stock!
What I was hoping that would happen is if I didnt enter any stock by attribute level, then it woudn't do anything to it allowing the user to purchase any size.
Arrgghh. Lots of products to add... Do I have to do this all manually? It can take forever...

The mod works the other way round and deliberately. If no stock is entered, it assumes that there is no stock.Quote:

Here is my problem...
I have 1000's of products that I have from drop shippers.
I also have 100's of products of our own stock.
So after I put in all of my own stock by attributes is when I noticed
I cannot check out with the other ones from the dropshippers.
I was thinking about just allowing the option of allowing products to
be purchased if the stocks are showing 0. But that will also create another
nightmare, (And alot of angry customers)
I seriously thought if there was a quantity with no break out of attributes it
would revert to allowing any of the attributes to be purchased. Wouldn't that have made more sense???

Having effectively unlimited stock is not the situation that most store owners are in, or the default for which Zen Cart is built. So, although what you propose would work for you, it would be a disaster for many other store owners who would have the opposite problem, i.e. the need to create an unnecessary stock record for every possible combination of attributes and put a zero in it. It's to avoid that scenario that the mod defaults the way it does.Quote:

Stock by Attributes will let you add stock for all combinations of attributes available to a product. To add another option, you must first add it the product, then Stock by Attributes will pick it up.Quote:

If you leave the Allow Checkout when stock is low, The checkout box is red and tells the customer that is the case. I List everything from a datasheet using easypopulate
I put every attribute combination into a different category as a category name.
Like --- s,m,l m,l,xl
Why do I do this?? So that I can make 1 set of attributes then copy the whole set of attributes to the rest of the category.
Then I use Quick Updates and move all the products to their appropriate categories.
Soooo... What I was thinking... Would there be a way to say.. Make the copy of the attributes quantities when I copy all of the attributes over.

I installed this mod and it's great... but there is one big problem... speed.
We have hundreds of combinations, because of the attribute variants and the process of adding a value hitting the refresh button and the page loading again is too tedious.
With that said, is there a way I can use easyPopulate (or something else) to make a flat-file to upload all my products? I know easyPopulate does this but I don't know if it works with this Stock By Attributes mod?

People are likely not answering because the answer has been provided before. Unfortunately I haven't the time to search the thread for the exact message number or page within the thread. You may want to set your shop to not allow checkout for items that are out of stock. This is a setting that you control in the admin under Configuration & Stock.Quote:

there's nothing you can do within Zen Cart except control settings in Configuration --> Stock.
If that doesn't work, then you need custom programming.
If no user has posted an answer it is either because they are unable (my case, as of yet), or too busy.
So what is the only option left? To hire somebody.
I hate to say this because I don't practice what I preach out of financial trouble at present, but if you have some reserves and really need it bad...

I think you may not have grasped the nettle here.
The system almost works, it must just be a setting we are overlooking (perhaps because we are stupid) that would literally just take someone a very short period of time to advise us about.
It's not a matter of getting custom programming, or anything like that, just a couple minutes of someone's time. I know we are all busy and this is a tall order, that's why it is taking so much time for someone to answer, but this is why we have to keep asking.
I can't understand why it has gone this far and someone just doesn't help, you all seem to find the time to post reasosns why we can can't be helped - i don't quite get it, perhaps I am not quite grasping the nettle here!

Just to refresh you, this is what the problem is.
We have installed Stock By Attributes - this will hopefully, when working, allow us to add stock to attibutes, so, instead of stock being added to the whole product, you can add stock to attributes. Say, for arguements sake, you had a t-shirt for sale with 3 colours, red, green, blue, you could add stock for each colour, e.g. 3 in stock for red, 3 in stock for blue, 3 in stock for blue.
When the system works, if you sell all 3 red t-shirts, it should then flag the red t-shirt as sold out, or not allow users to order any more (until stock updated).
However, what is happening for us is that this is not happening, customers can still order the red t-shirt. The stock by attributes part isn't working and the whole number of stcok is taken into consideration, e.g. 9 t-shirts and not individual attributes stock.

I'm sorry that my answer about hiring somebody aggravated you, just wanted to let you know that Ajeh answered a similar post to me, stating that if settings in Configuration --> Stock aren't enough, you need custom programming.
Forget about the mod, it just makes Stock by attributes possible, allowing out of stock checkout is controlled by the Admin, precisely in Configuration --> Stock.

I did all you said above but i did a test order of a product that only had 3 in stock, added 4 to basekt and checked out fine, shouldn't be able to do this.
The fact that you say i should get custom programming confuses me a little - this add on should deal with stock levels for attributes as i want it to, so, there is no question of custom programming.
Don't get it.
Has anyone reading this had the same problem, but eventually sorted it?

Hardly I find that the mod has anything to do with it, since it calculates totals for all the product variants, if those are exceeded it shouldn't be allowing checkout.
Sorry but unable to help you further, at risk to frustrate you even more I have to tell you that it does work for me.
You must turn off the option too allow that ..
admin-->config-->stock-->allow checkout -->set to false
there is also where you can set your custom message at checkout under mark product out of stock such as "enter a lower number"

It's not clear from your post whether "this" module is "StockAttributes by danielcor" or my more recent "Stock by Attributes". However, the installation instructions for both have as their first step the application of a database patch, which your error message suggests you haven't done.Quote:

Your assessment is correct, but this is all a little odd. The original 3.01 version of stockattribute by danielcor erroneously included the zen_ prefix in the SQL patch; but the 3.01.1 version corrected that.Quote:

Also, what version of Zen Cart are you using? My stock by attributes came into being as a result of client pressure when it became clear that stockattributes by danielcor wasn't completely compatible with Zen Cart 1.3.5. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I had a feeling that I would not be able to use this version with the most up to date version of Zen Cart(1.3.7). The way it is listed in the downloads section of this site led me to believe that it had been updated recently, Aug. 31, 2007. The only reason for using this module instead of yours is that I need to be able to stock by only one of the numerous attributes I have for many of my products. Is there a way to do that with your version?

Does anyone here know how to edit/update a sql table (I already have this mod installed and I wish to update it to the most recent version).
The sql file with the download executes a "create" order but I don't need to create the table - it already exists.

Just delete the CREATE statement down to and including the semi-colon and then run the SQL as you would normally i.e. via Admin > Tools > Install SQL Patches or phpMyAdmin or whatever other database management tool you might use, or your webhost supplies.Quote:

Yes. The queries are stand-alone so you can just execute the ones you didn't have in your original version of stockattribute by danielcor.
FYI, for others who are looking at doing this "upgrade" the initial file comparisons I'm doing indicate that this may not be for the faint of heart who have no idea about code (like me ;) ) It's definitely not just a simple lunchtime exercise as I had hoped :P
For those that are contemplating this upgrade,
To elaborate, it appears the file structure is a little bit different between the original danielcor version and this upgrade. There are files that are in the original that no longer exist in the upgraded version, and new files (and file structure in some cases) in the upgrade.Quote:

I have a product i sell its a skateboard deck, now this items comes with a product called griptape, we do a FREE Grip but also want to offer 1/2 price up grade to 2 others one at £2.50 and one at £3.00 also an option to have it applied or loose.

with Stocks by attributes i have to set a stock level for each attribute so that's x5 but i only have 1 of the product in stock.
i hope that makes some sort of sense to someone and you can point me to the right way or add on i need.
I am setting up my website, www.doubleEgifts.com, and I installed the stock by attributes v4.5 but it is not working properly. I have the newest version of Zen cart and I am very new to the whole .php thing and website design. I used this for most of the leather things I have listed with attributes but when I enter a quantity and hit submit button it puts attribute stock line in twice, so I have to delete one of the entries. I don't know what the problem is but I do know it takes long enough to enter amounts for all the attributes and variations now, without deleting an entry everytime also.
I can only assume that this would be very complicated to write but is it possible for this to work by having the attributes listed with a quantity boxes after each attribute on the submit page so you could enter all of the stock levels for each attribute and submit them all at once instead of navigating back and forth for each attribute? Just wondering if this is feasable or not.
I would appreciate any help and thanks in advance.

The double entry behaviour is not correct and indeed I've not heard of this before, so I don't have a quick answer. Can you post some more about it? Does it happen with every attribute combination for every product with attributes or just some of them? Can you provide an example? Where do you see the double entry? Do you see the double entry if you look directly in the database e.g. by using phpMyAdmin?
The answer to the second question is no. The mod is designed to cope with a wide range of scenarios, so although it would be easy for somebody to create a variant that allowed multiple entry for products with just one attribute, and not to difficult for products with two, a product that had say five attributes would require a 5-dimensional table which would be extremely hard to render on a 2-dimensional screen. Maybe we'll see more creative input methods emerging when this functionality is taken into Zen Cart's code code in release 1.4.

I use zencart 1.3.7 and patches with the comstock template, could something be getting read twice from template_default and the comstock folder? I found the answer to my second question after hours of reading posts in this string last night.
I noticed something weird tonight, I usually use Firefox but I was using IE tonight and I went and tried to list stock by attributes with it and it worked fine but when I tried using Firefox again it double listed each entry I surely don't know what would cause this but I guess if I use IE there is no problems although I prefer firefox.
This is interesting, but also a little confusing.
To clarify when you go into the products with attributes entry form you see one set of attributes, but when you submit values it creates two database entries which are then displayed (presumably in the overall listing).
Now you are adding that Internet Explorer (you don't say which version) only displays one of those two entries for the same variant.
Clearly this is not normal behaviour for the mod or many other people would have been concerned about it, and I can't reproduce it in my test environments. My recommended lines of investigation would be 1) to check that none of your files have been corrupted by downloading the ones on your server and comparing them to a fresh download of the mod and 2) to ensure that there is not a problem with how your attributes have been set up.
You are correct it will display two database entries which show up in the phpmyadmin but they do not show in the attributes on the public listing page when you try to purchase the item.
When I use IE 7 everything works fine, I will do a comparison of the files downloaded for the addon with the original ones and see if I can come up with any differences. I did use winmerge the first time because I have image handler 2 but like I said I am new to all of this so maybe I did something wrong.

I compared all of the files with a fresh download of the Stock by attributes and
I found a few differences which fixed the problem that I was having with the "out of stock" not coming up when an item attribute is added to the cart with a 0 stock level but I still have the problem with Firefox putting double entries when adding attribute stock levels in the admin section. I don't know why this should happen.
I've got one product I drop ship that have 4 attributes with quite a few options on some of them - it adds up to 420 permutations. :laugh: I'd do this in SQL if I have to - is there any quicker way to make all combos for a given product have a very high number in stock? I am doing most combos by hand for the rest of my inventory, as boring as that is, but, well, this one product is going to take weeks to do manually. :shocking:
It you only drop ship for this product and therefore want all possible combinations to be available, just put a high stock value on the product itself and don't create any attribute stock.Quote:

I installed this module a few weeks ago and was gonna get to updating the numbers. Someone called me saying something was out of stock - I hadn't even realized that people noticed the *** and bright pink (for me, anyway) warning because order were coming in anyway and stuff going negative. Here is another problem I am having.
When I install this mod, The results show a drop down box that drops down as if there are attributes in there however there are none. Furthermore it is a very thin box as if it is not reading the attribute names. The drop down box however goes down as far as the number of attribute variables I have.
I have had a simular problem that is probably related. It is when I tried to use the advanced attribute controller. The attributes controller worked fine but when I tried that mod I got the same results inside that I described above.
When I posted this question for the problem with Advanced Atributes
Someone asked me if I had Java Script enabled in my browser.
I checked and it was.
But this has me thinking. Is there possably something I overrid that stoped me from allowing java scripts to be used on my site? Causing the problem I mentioned?

Javascript runs in the visitors window rather than on your site. The only way that you can inhibit it, is to make it unavailable to the visitor's browser. This is often unfortunately easy to do, especially on the catalog side, by simply putting it, or leaving it, in the wrong place.
Whether this is the issue for you is difficult to say. At this point you haven't told us which of the three stock by attribute mods you're using, or where in your site the problem occurs. So we have very little to go on.
I am not sure which of the three I am using.
Actually I can probably break it down to 2.
(I use Catlog->Product with Attribute Stock) to add my product attributes.
I do not have the one that you have to put into the quanity into the actual attribute itself. (Dealing with sizes wouldnt make sence for that)
I tried to edit admin->products_with_attribute_stock.php to see if there
was any version info in there but I did not see any.
I also looked at my backup directories where I save all the mods i use.
I have stockattribute_by_danielcor_3.01 & stock_by_attributes_4.4 downloaded.
I could not be 100% but I think I am using 4.4

I have my cart working great, and recently got some stock in that is easier to sell via Attribute (Colour).
How do I tell Stocks By Attribute how many units I have of each Product per colour?

P.S. Is there a mod to automatically add multiple specified attributes for a product category? I am building a store that will sell shoes and there are sizes 4, 4.5, 5 ...through... 11 and we need to have all sizes set for all shoes. Then we can just go in and enter the stock numbers only for those size attributes that they actually have in stock. If i am correct, all attributes will automatically be interpreted as 0 unless set otherwise. So this would save us a lot of time and extra steps.

Extracting the quantity for each product variant is the trickiest bit. Using that data to suppress display of the attribute is very straightforward, but the exact code would depend on your specific template files which is probably why nobody has posted a specific response to this.Quote:

I don't quite remember what comes included in this mod since I have it installed live for some time now.
But, if a .sql patch is included, you install it through Admin -> Tools -> Install SQL patches.
You don't need to worry about a special database, it is the old mySQL that your hosting service already has, if you are running Zen Cart.

Do you mean that i should easily be able to do it for a product with only one attribute ...or... do you mean, even if i do it for one attribute it will screw up other items with more than one attribute? I have recently upgraded my clients site to 1.3.7.1 and the Stock by Attributes module is no longer working correctly. Customers are placing orders for items where the stock is zero. I've installed the most current version of the module 4.5. The host is running PHP5. Does anyone know if the module is compatible with PHP5?
The store is obviously live and my client is very understandable but its something I would love to get resolved for her.
