Actually what is needed to start with is a decent set of instructions for the configuration settings to start and Jeff has not done that. Just saw the availability question again. Those are questions that should be written up in the documentation.
I could do that and upload the results to the zen cart forum as a contribution but that be a fair amount of work on my part. What I could do is take emails from anyone who has the specific thread number in answer to a question about those configuration settings. I could then post what I have regularly so that it appears in the forum until I get the documentation done.
In the meantime, I'll ask the Zen Cart Powers to be about starting a new thread.

Also some additional info like the question I did few threads back and hasn't been answered (are the new feeds override previous items).
Another thing I'm looking after is how to make the "read only" attributes not visible on frontend, since this is mentioned on the readme file but no instructions or farther info on how to accomplish it.
I can help on gathering some of the info needed since I've been testing a lot lately this module and search a lot here for info.

Never have had to change that setting to get the zen cart model numbers to show up in the feed. The model numbers automatically get included if they aren't blank.

I thought I had answered your question - same feed, different products, start over again - otherwise you would never be able to delete products. You should be outputting all products in one feed or setting up different feeds with different feed names.
Documentation: "you can set them to display only and then modify your template to not show display only attributes)" Good luck with that. I've not looked into that before.
Both your questions have nothing to do with the configuration settings though.

Ah, good. It's getting incredibly hard to follow this thread! So you are using Numinix's mod to do that.

No, I know doesn't have to do with configuration but is just good info that since is available or people that is going to work on the documentation could share (it won't harm), and that way users don't have to spend hours searching on the forum or just asking about it creating a longer thread with useless posts.

How to find out which version i have...
Hi
i use zen cart v1.3.9h
I am using Google Base Feeder, an old version.
I would like to upgrade as encountered problems with 'Required Attribute Availability'.
However, I do not know which version to upgrade to, as I do not know which version I have. Obviously, i would like to upgrade to latest, but see there have been quite a few upgrades over past year or so, and quite a few sql updates.
If poss, and i know this sounds dumb, but, is there anyway i can find the module version if I don't have original download zip file and folder?
Matt
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
If you uploaded the full mod files, you should have a folder on your site entitled module_version with a text file in it. That is not a real proof of version though and you probably just need to uninstall and then install the newest version anyway.
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
hi, thanks for that.
will the uninstall file in the latest version uninstall my old version?
matt
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
i have uninstalled, but still have google base feeder configuration under configuration, however, other refs to have been removed, e.g. under Tools
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
i uninstalled an old version
i then installed latest version 1.10.2
although i haven't tested yet, there are now too feed admin links under configuration:
Google Merchant Center Feeder Configuration
and
Google Base Feeder Configuration
if anyone can advise how i might lose Google Base Feeder Configuration, that would be great, am hoping that in doesnt cause any complications

You can remove it by running the database uninstall for the version it represents. But, I still have it on one of my sites and the new version works fine. Just don't use the old for configuration.

RescoCCC you say... "You can remove it by running the database uninstall for the version it represents"
I only see one sql file called unistall. Should I be unistalling a certain sql file for the version I am running?
If so, how do I find out which version I have now?
"Mattys" mentions the latest version is 1.10.2... Isn't the latest version 1.12.4 ??
Thanks for your help, this has been a nightmare.

The version info for your old one is likely in google_base_feeder/numinix_version/google_base_feeder.txt. Once you have that version number, you can use the uninstall that came with it.
The latest version available here in software downloads is 1.10.2. Always seems to be a few versions behind Numinix's web site.
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Which version is best for google's changes? The latest from Numinix?
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I checked out which module I had installed by checking the folder called "module version" located at the root which was version 1.12.2 so I used uninstall sql file from my archives and ran the sql script from the newest Numinix Google base feeder version 1.12.4. Then i upload all files and overwrote the older files. Then I went into Google Merchant Center Feeder Configuration page and made some minor setup entries; my ftp username and password, store address, store description, tax rate, and a google category of Home & Garden > Decor > Candles.
I proceed to Google Merchant Center Feeder to create the XML file of 14 items for testing. I then get the following message which has been ok and normal for me in the past:
"Google Merchant Center Feeder v1.12.4 started 2011/11/08 21:08:35
Feed file - /XXXX/XXXXX/public_html/feed/google/XXXXX_products_en_15.xml
Processing: Feed - Yes, Upload - No
Google Merchant Center File Complete In 0.230968 Seconds 15 of 15 Records"
The file appears to be created and shown in blue text, I then proceed to click on it for review and suddenly I get a "Feed Code Error" shown at the head of my browser NOT showing my products whatsoever, just a message saying “Internet Explorer cannot display this feed.”
I sell candles and even entered a Products Model number and a manufacturer name on every single product we carry just to satisfy Google’s requirements and still can't this working for me. In short... what the FEED am I doing wrong guys?
Your help is appreciated immensely. Thank you.

I believe quotes are the problem in my description of products. I have dimension such as 6"x2" which is colored in green on my Dreamweaver when I open the xml file. This happens to be the line where these quotes are located from my product description,
I created an XML file of a single product that has no quotes and I was able to see the product without feed error and upload to Google base and had is successfully entered into the Google base.
How can I get around this without edit every single area I am using quotes?
Am I on the right track here?
Thanks RescoCCC

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Yep, use the word inches instead of ". That's something I learned the hard way early on. It created problems with the search results in Google Shopping.
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I've just installed Version: 1.10.2 and paid attention on XML error that Google shows for generated feed. The problem is that google_base.php class function (google_base_image_url) doesn't sanitize the image name, so filenames with space, like "file name.jpg" crashes everyhing. But it's easy to fix using rawurlencode PHP function:
$products_image_large = DIR_WS_IMAGES . rawurlencode($products_image);
Equinox

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I did exactly what RescoCCC mentioned and added a space before the word inches so i would appear appropriate " inches".
and I now have 530 of 530 items inserted (View warnings). Which is AWESOME!!
Here were my only 2 warnings only effecting 3 of my 530 items which I can live with:
Missing recommended attribute: image link (2 warnings)
While items missing recommended attributes will process successfully, we recommend including relevant attributes if they are available.
Item ID Line Nr.
486 5,450 Show Item
625 7,953 Show Item
Missing recommended attribute: product type (1 warning)
While items missing recommended attributes will process successfully, we recommend including relevant attributes if they are available.

Item ID Line Nr.
276 1,546 Show Item
Thank you RescoCCC for all you help!

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Using Zen cart 1.3.9
Just installed this , today obviously..
When I go to google, i have it download the file from http://www.google.com/merchants/bulkuploads -- and clicking "edit" "update and fetch"
After it processes, it shows 150 of 152 items entered (view errors)
I view the errors, and this is one of the biggest ones..
Code:
Missing recommended attribute: google product category (152 warnings)
and
Code:
Missing recommended attribute: product type (152 warnings)
and
Code:
Missing required attribute: availability (152 errors, only affecting Product Search, Search API for Shopping)
I'm so lost, i set my main options for this to show items with 0 quantity, and default of 0=5
Do I have to have an "available" date on all the products?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
ver 1.3.9h
Although I can upload my feed successfully, I get four attribute errors (see below) , that prevent my product feeds from Product Search.
Messages and errors below. The attribute errors are a bit cryptic and don't show exactly where and what errors are..?
"Missing required attribute: availability (500 errors, only affecting Product Search, Search API for Shopping)
While items missing recommended attributes will process successfully, we recommend including relevant attributes if they are available.
Attribure errors:
Missing recommended attribute: brand
Expiration date is too far in the future
Missing recommended attribute: mpn
Missing recommended attribute: google product category "
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
These errors are common.
Here is what you need to do:
Availability: Go to Admin--Catalog---Categories/Products. For each product ensure that you have a number for Products Quantity. Further in Admin--Configuration--Google Merchant Center Feeder Configuration, ensure you have suitable values for Show Quantity, Include Zero Quantity and Default Quantity
Brand: Go to Admin--Catalog---Categories/Products. Select a Manufacturer for all your products. Or at least those that you want listed through this feed.
Expiration date....: Go to Admin--Configuration--Google Merchant Center Feeder Configuration. Look for Expiration Date Base, Select "Now" as the option. Then look for Expiration Date Adjust, Enter "29" here. (Google does not accept more than 30)
mpn: Go to Admin--Catalog---Categories/Products. Enter a value for the Product Model.
Product Category: Go to Admin--Configuration--Google Merchant Center Feeder Configuration---Default Product Category. You will need to select the correct category for your products from http://www.google.com/support/mercha...?answer=160081 and enter the value here. Choose the value in XML (Google gives you the options). Enter it here and its done.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
@kevinmc3
Check out the google product feed specification here:
http://support.google.com/merchants/...swer=188494#GB
Missing recommended attribute: mpn
mpn [mpn] - Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) of the item
This code uniquely identifies the product to its manufacturer. In particular, the combination of brand and MPN clearly specifies one product.
When to include:Required for all items - except apparel, media, and custom made goods, or if you're providing 'brand' and 'gtin'.
Type Alphanumeric characters
Text/Tab delimited GO12345OOGLE
XML '<g:mpn>GO1234568OOGLE</g:mpn>'
Missing recommended attribute: google product category "
For this see Google Product Taxonomy at
http://support.google.com/merchants/...&answer=160081
hope this helps

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
HELP PLEASE!
I am running a ZC v1.3.9h and currently using Google Base Feeder 1.8.2, receiving the following errors/warnings:
AVAILABILITY (all products)
GOOGLE PRODUCT CATEGORIES (all products).
I would like to upgrade my Google Base Feeder to the most recent version (1.12.5) but do not want to make any mistakes.
Here is what I plan to do:
1. Backup (sql and files)
2. Upload 1.12.5 files
3. Run patch (update_1_12_4.sql)
Will this work? Or do I need to completely uninstall first, then install 1.12.5?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Quick question:
How soon can you re-feed your products to google?
I uploaded last Wednesday, data was good but I am still awaiting the google "manual" review before being inserted into searchable category.
While waiting, I added a bunch of new products, would like to feed them also. Should I just wait until the google review is complete?
Also, as a matter of general protocol, should I wait until my products expire before re-feeding?
Thanks!

If you are using any version of the Numinix Google Merchant Version: 1.12.0 (formerly known as Google Base Feeder) older that v1.12.0 and your Google product feeds stopped working, THIS IS WHY YOUR FEED STOPPED WORKING!!!!! Google no longer supports feeds generated using the old formats older version of the Numinix Google Merchant add-on.
YOU WILL NEED TO UPGRADE TO THE LATEST VERSION OF THIS ADD-ON TO GET YOUR FEEDS WORKING AGAIN!!!
AND
YOU NEED TO POST YOUR SUPPORT RELATED QUESTIONS IN THE NEW SUPPORT THREAD!!!

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
The way the free add-on section works currently, it's not super easy to get the description modified if one is not submitting a new version of the add-on.. The move to a NEW clean support thread happened AFTER a community member took the time to post the Numinix version in the free downloads, and the mod submission was done by a different person than the one rightly created a new support thread (given that Google had changed it's submission requirements sooo much)..
HENCE the reason the (not so subtle/gentle) reminder messages are being posted here..
What REALLY needs to happen in addition to your suggestion is that this thread should be locked and closed..
Now when any of us who so decides to volunteer to do so has time to contact and work with the admins regarding BOTH of these excellent suggestions:
the beatings will continue..:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Do I need to buy a new car too?
v1.10.2 still works, as well as it ever did.
With Version 1.12.0's thread already up to 35 pages since November 2011, I am ok with staying with v1.10.2 for a few reasons.
The main one being that I would like to provide myself with more than just the default product category, and not have to deal with debugging what certainly appears to me to be a beta release.
v1.10.2 is as beta as I need the module to be.
So I vote for leaving this thread open.

People still install and use Image Handler 2 and Super Orders 2 for whatever reason, but the admins closed those support threads because both versions are outdated and unsupported..
With regards to this module, you do realize that Google changed their feed requirements, and this is why the module has been updated.. Eventually your feeds will stop working as well unless you've modified the version you are using to submit the information based on Google's current requirements..
For these reasons, I agree that the support thread for this version really should be closed..
AND for all the people suggesting closing this thread, ANY ONE OF YOU could contact the admins too and make the request (versus waiting for the mysterious "someone else" to do it -- just saying..)

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
The irony that strikes me here is that we are talking about a module that deals with product taxonomy, and the forum>thread>post structure is demonstrably inadequate for every issue presented for the google feeder module having to be stuffed into one thread.
I think the google feeder module needs its own forum where the separate issues can be organized by thread, and a step in that direction is to at least have separate threads for separate versions.
Believe it or not, some of us don't wait for the mysterious "someone else" to fix everything. We take the code, look at what it needs to do, look at what it does and how it does it, and then we (shhh -secret here) hack it. :dontgetit whoknew?

Well there is a separate forum topic on the Numinix website for this mod.. Though the SAME argument can be made for SEVERAL mods, I sincerely doubt that separate threads for each is gonna happen here on this forum.. **shrugs** not my call.. the forum admins choose how they want to run this.. don't really have an opinion about it to be honest so long as SOME means to provide support is offered..

installed: Google Merchant Center Feeder 1.13.0
from: https://www.numinix.com/google-merchant-center-feeder
The installation went without problems and then I copied the content from install.sql and pasted into the admin/tools/instal SQL Patches.
After I configured the module, and when I generated the xml here is what I get:
"
Google Merchant Center Feeder v started 2012/02/23 21:01:15
Feed file - /home/...../rcsquad_products_en_5.xml
Processing: Feed - Yes, Upload - No
Google Merchant Center File Complete In 0.030815 Seconds 0 of 1 Records
"
It seems it knows that there is one product but it does not include it.
Any help is truly appreciated since I spent hours and hours on this.
Thank you,
Ed.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Hello,
I'm having two on-going issues with the Google Base Feeder on Zen 1.3.9h and the latest Google Froogle (1.12.5, I believe...can't get into cPanel currently to confirm).
First, it's only picking up 46 of my products. There are about 60-65 in the store. Why isn't it picking them all up?
Second, Google won't insert any of my products. They all get this error: "Please make sure the expiration date is in the future." I have the settings in Zen Cart to set the expiration date as 29 days from "now," but they've all failed for this reason for months. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Scott
