I'd really appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance.
you need to first create the attribute ("Size") in (Tools->Option Name Manager), then create the values under Option Values Manager (ie., a field for S, another filed for M, another for L, another for XL, etc)...
Then you can export the template from easy pop (export the model/attributes template), then fill it.
For pricing and visibility, you have to have a number to have it view...(eg,. S & M are the same price, but L is +$5, and XL is +$7) then you put 0's in the S & M fields, and "5" and "7" in the respective fields..
I use this a bit, with somewhat mixed results...
My experience:
1. you can't change the Attribute NAME or the Value Name from record to record....
- - (the "Size" Attribute can NEVER be used as say "style" on another record, and you can't name "XL" as "really big" on a differnt record) -- - -there is something in te way the database pulls it, that titles in attribute names and value names will 'burp" if changed much.....
If there is a work-around on this, i'd love to know it.. my sites have hourly uploads, and with the qty of attribs i run, it takes quite a while....
2. I think there might be a problem with Easy Pop in terms of max # of attributes... I don't know this, and would love to know the answer myself..(see my post above as explanation). I'm running 12 attribute Names, with anywhere from 5 - 36 attribute values for each attribute name... and it seems to be causing some sort of issue.....
-
Re: Easy Populate support
Anybody else still viewing this thread? Looking for answers on the Attrib issue...
Also, is there a good way to dual-post the same model product into multiple categories (simultaneously) with either version of EP?
If i've got say a widget that can sell in both "Red Widgets"and in "Round Widgets", how can I put it in the file so it'll automatically populate to both categories?

Re: Easy Populate support
When using ez pop you can add in multiple identical lines by taking the original and duplicating then altering the category columns accordingly. Then upload.
For example if product 1722 needs to be in cat a & b you will have two line items with the only thing altered being the category and likely your metas if you use them.

thx..
I'm familiar with this.. was hoping there is a way to encapsulate that info in a single record entry, as it makes communication with a database significantly less complex.
Anybody have experience in dealing with the Attributes issues I laid out above?

Re: Easy Populate support
I watched some video tutorials on how to install easy populate and how it works. It seems to me that the CSV creates its own categories within your shopping cart. Is there a way to prevent that? Or would I have to, after uploading the CSV file containing hundreds of items, individually move those items to the category I want. Because I have my own category structure and I am afraid that uploading the CSV files and it making its own categories will mess things up.

EP will not create new categories UNLESS the new products in the CSV also describe a NEW category.
If (in the CATEGORIES column) you insert the name of EXISTING categories, then EP will just write the new products' data, and the new products will appear in EXISTING categories.
Try an EP upload with just ONE NEW PRODUCT. Make sure you show an EXISTING category name. Then take a look at the result.
Remember... The category name must EXACTLY match the category name in the database. There is a difference between Mens Shoes and Men's Shoes and mens shoes and men's shoes. Letter case MUST be the same - spelling must be the same.
ALSO... you have posted your question in the EP 1.2.5.4 thread. This version does NOT use CSV but TAB DELIMITED....

Zen Version: 1.5.1 / Easy Populate For ZenCart v1.5.x
I hate to bring this up again, as others have done so previously, but I just can't resolve this issue; Whenever I attempt to insert the file into the database via my Zen admin, I receive the following error:
Quote:
No model field in record. This line was not imported
However, I DO have the model field in place (v_products_model) as well as EOREOR to close the record. The temp folder is also set to 777.
I have downloaded the record from another Zen Cart, version 1.3.8a, in an attempt to transfer the data to my updated zen cart. Can anyone give me a clue as to why I am unable to successfully make this transfer?
Thanks!

Re: Easy Populate support
Do you have Chad's version of EP on your 1.5 site? EP1.2.5.4 does not work on ZC 1.5

Re: Easy Populate support
Hmmm... OK, it looks like I have the wrong version installed (easy_populate_csv_for_zencart_v1.5.x_v1.2.5.7c). However, I'm not seeing an uninstall SQL. Any thoughts on how to best uninstall this version?
And is Chad's "EasyPopulate-4.0-master" the version to install?
Thanks

Re: Easy Populate support
Ok, I have spent several days trying to figure this out and and am at loss
I had easy populate working perfectly for my zc 1.3.8, never a problem. I now have zc 1.5.0 and uploaded easy populate v. 1.2.5.7b and having nothing but problems:
My 3 issues:
When uploading my open office .csv file I am getting "No model field in record. This line was not imported"even though I do indeed have data in the model field
The second problem is I do not have anything in the admin > configuration tab for Easy Populate.
Also getting this: 40 partially deleted product(s) found! Delete this dross to prevent unwanted zencart behaviour by clicking here. When I try it does not work, the error log says I need to go into phpmyadmin and manually remove data but I can not figure out how.
I’m at a loss, this worked perfectly for me when I had 1.3.8. Please advise, I have a ton of webwork to do and can't get started.

Re: Easy Populate support
Only EP 4 will work with ZC 1.5.x
Good news is that the new EP will not "interfere" with the old EP version. (Which you should just remove from ZC 1.5 - follow the uninstall procedure).
As far as removing the "dross" is concerned, this will need to be done in phpMyAdmin - BUT... you should not go tinkering around in the database unless you know what's going on there. If you do not know how to access phpMyAdmin, it follows that you do not know what it is or how to work with it.
As I said, it IS possible to get rid of this "dross" via phpMyAdmin (I do it occasionally) but it is not doing any real harm, and as there is a risk that your tinkering may actually do some real harm, I recommend you leave it alone for now.

Re: Easy Populate support
OK, I've successfully removed the incorrect version of EP and installed EP 4. All looks to be in order but I am still receiving a "No model field in record. This line was not imported" even though they are in place (v_products_model).
I'm downloading a database, using EP, from a Zen Cart version 1.3.8a so that I may then upload this information to my new Zen Cart. Could that be creating the issue?
-
Re: Easy Populate support
there is a difference in how the csv files are built, by the different EP versions. Best thing to do is to make a download using the different versions and compare them
you can then edit the csv file downloaded from ZC 1.38 to comply with the EP4 column headings

Notice that EP 4 has several differences from EP 1.2.5.4
Firstly, it is CSV (not TAB DELIMITED) so you must follow CSV protocols (comma separated, text enclosed in double quotes... this endures that if you have commas in product description text, for example, these commas will not be seen as field delimiters.)
Secondly, it no longer uses EOFEOF as a line ender.
Thirdly, it uses a CARET SYMBOL to separate CATEGORIES and SUB-CATEGORIES. EG: Main Category^Sub Category^Sub-Sub Category ... whereas EP 1.3.5.4 used separate COLUMNS for each cat and sub-cat.
Load up a product in the conventional way, then do a DUMP of your database using EP. Then look at the resultant spreadsheet...
PS... EP4 has its own support thread so please go there for advice... This thread should be exclusively for 1.2.5.4 and as we have dealt with your issue, no point in talking more about EP4 on this thread.

Re: Easy Populate support
Just installed Easypopulate V1.5x with zencart V1.51. Just try to add few new items for testing.
My step is 1. download the updated data FullEP2012xxxx.txt and open it with excel. 2. Download complete .csv and add new item following the FullEP2012xxx.txt format. 3. Upload the new items via ftp. 4. Insert the new item .csv to db. I got the following error:
"ADD NEW PRODUCT FAILED! - Model: #MM2013-01 - SQL error. Check Easy Populate error log in uploads directory"
Can anyone help me here? I appreciated for your help.

Re: Easy Populate support
Hi!
I installed downloaded and installed Easy Populate CSV into a ZC151.
The installation appeared to go off without a hitch.
The "instructions" reference two menus for the mod. The first appears here:
Admin -> Tools -> Easy Populate
That menu shows up and appears to be working just fine. I am able to Create/Download csv files just fine. I have not tried to change/upload anything yet.
PROBLEM:
The second menu referenced by the instructions should appear here:
Admin -> Configuration -> Easy Populate
That menu is not showing up! I have logged in/out. I opened the admin in a different browser (in case of cache issue). I have uninstalled both the files and the sql (admin/easypopulate.php?langer=remove), then reinstalled.
Same problem!
I have the following mods installed:
• Template from Picaflur
• Ceon URI UMM
• Ceon URI Manager
• Image Handler
• Lightbox - use Zen Lightbox
• CKEditor
Any hints about what I should do would be greatly appreciated!
Since I'm here already... I'm very curious about why this mod keeps the folder containing EP store files in the store root rather than in the admin folder? Seems very illogical to me.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Easy Populate support
The version you have selected is "very shaky".
There is EP version 4 by chadderuski, but I am not sure if it's in the plugins yet. He has a version on github. Find the support thread for Easy Populate 4 and see if you can get the link to github.
Remove the version you have, and if there is anything in the dbase to undo, run the uninstall script.

Re: Easy Populate support
I've just downloade easy_populate_csv_for_zencart_v1.5.x_v1.2.5.7c.
I cannot figure out where the files in the tempEP folder are supposed to go. I will be moving them with FileZilla. I am very new to ZenCart, so when I read in the install file:
Quote:
2) The temp folder is configured to reside in your store directory. If you store is not in the site root (eg. /mystore/) then the temp directory must also go in this directory.
I went to FileZilla and looked for a folder called /mystore/ and there is not one. So where is says "If you store is not in xxx ... must also go in this directory. Go in which directory??? The root directory (public_html)? and should the files just go in a folder called tempEP or just in the root directory and not in a folder?
At public_html, these are the folders I have:
Quote:
.qidb
admin-xxx
cache
docs
download
editors
email
extras
images
includes
logs
media
popups
pub
Testing (which is a folder I created to try out php scripts)
So please someone tell me where these files go.
My one complaint with ZenCart so far has been that instructions for adding modules have been very confusing and tedious. I have installed 1 template and 2 other modules so far and have had to make several attempts and ask many questions. I also find the forum to be very difficult to search, I think because of how it's layed out. It would be so nice to have each module have it's on section instead of it's own thread. This thread has over 300 pages to it and maybe 20 posts per page?
Sorry for the rant
However, that said, I have made lightyears more progress with ZenCart than I did with WordPress/Cart66/GravityForms. I do actually feel like I'm getting to the point that I will have a live and functioning store in the fairly near future, where I never felt like I was ever getting anywhere near a finished site with WP.
Thanks,
Alisa

Re: Easy Populate support
Hello,
I have tried to install Easy Populate CSV - Version: 1.2.5.7c on my site http://luminosys.com/store unsuccessfully.
When I try to do the /easypopulate.php?langer=install, I get a blank page and if I try to do the sql patch manually I get an error message.
I suspect this could be a compatibility issue with the other plug-ins I have:
-Custom template from templateMonster
-ckeditor
-French language
-Lightbox
-Ultimate SEO
-Sitemap XML
-Simple Google Analytics
-Language and currency in header
-Multi language ex-pages
Are there any known incompatibilities with the plug-ins I have?
Thanks

What version of zencart? The only version of EP that works with zencart 1.5.x is EasyPopulate Version 4.
You need to go to the support thread for it to get the module as there is a link to GITHUB download. The module is not available in the Free Add-Ons yet as it is still in "beta" version.

Re: Easy Populate support
Hey Everyone!
I am currently working on putting together documentation and some final coding adjustments in preparation to submit to Easy Populate 4.0 to the zencart team. Writing thorough documentation is really a chore! Hopefully I'll have this completed after this week and submitted by the end of this coming weekend. It will still take a few days for them to approve it.

Re: Easy Populate support
I haven't attempted this yet, but from what you posted the temp folder goes right into the folder where your store is held. Soooooo if you have to goto www.yourstore.com/store to get to your store then you would put that temp folder in there. If you have to goto just www.yourstore.com then it would go into the public_html (root) directory.

Could you clarify two things for me please?
1. At the download page for Easy Populate CSV it indicates version 1.2.5.7c for ZC 1.5.0 and 1.5.1. But you say the only EP that works with those ZC versions is Easy Populate 4. I currently have 1.3.9h but plan to upgrade this year. Which should be used? (I've been using the old EP 1.2.5.4 but it doesn't have metatag support.)
2. Is it just MS-hate or is there a good reason why OpenOffice is being pushed? I've got everything in Excel and dread the idea of converting it all.
THANKS EVERYONE!

You can work in Excel, but when you do your export (for which ever version of EP you use) use Open Office for that. It gives you a standardized CSV while Excel is dependent on which version you have and which type of export you use.

I uninstall 1.2.5.4 before I upgrade to ZC.1.5 - then I do a full install of EP4 after the upgrade is complete.

Microsoft was never designed for "developer" purposes. It was designed for "simpletons" who need the software to do a lot of things automatically. Unfortunately, when you use MS stuff for developer or code purposes, it still behaves as if you want it to do a lot of auto-formatting - and there's no way of switching these auto-functions off.
MSOffice is similar, but a lot more respectful of an individual's desire to format stuff manually - so I like to use it as I have a lot more control over how things get formatted.
And there's no "conversion" to worry about. OO will read an XLS file.

Re: Easy Populate support
Hi all,
I do need help (and relatively quickly).
I had a Zencart up and running nicely with my mod template and then I merely copied the files (as outlined in the installation instructions) Easy Populate only to find my cart then crashed!
I now get the old: "Server error - The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.mysite.com/ecom/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
I literally did nothing other than upload the files in the Easy Populate folder which I downloaded.
I am running Zen Cart 1.5.0
What files would have been over written doing the file upload process that would cause that problem?
Regards and thanks in advance.

What VERSION of EasyPopulate did you load?
Only VERSION FOUR (EP. v4) works with ZC 1.5.x
And it also sounds like you sent it to the wrong place.
EP gets loaded ONLY into your (secretly named) admin folder. It cannot influence the shop-front. I think you loaded the files to the wrong place.

Re: Easy Populate support
Hi SB,
Thanks for your reply.
I downloaded (what I beleived to be) the latest version from: http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=868
Ie easy_populate_csv_for_zencart_v1.5.x_v1.2.5.7
Is this not correct?
So the entire contents of the ZIP file downloaded is dumped down into the "secret named" admin folder within the site root OR within the directory that my Zencart store sits in Ie. www.mystore.com/ecom - ?
I guess that was my mistake - boy (no pun intended) did I misread that on the instructions!
Would I be correct to assume in this case (assuming I did do that) that I will simply have to re-install Zencart and start again?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
BR

The version to use is EP v4 (NOT available in plugin area. Find the SUPPORT THREAD for EP v4, and Chad has put a link to GITHUB where you can download.
Like ANY plugin, the FOLDER/FILE integrity and hierarchy must match that of the zc installation on your server. So you do not just "dump" stuff... you need to make sure that if there is a folder called ADMIN in the plugin, then its contents must go into ADMIN (which will have a different name) on the server.
When you collect EP v4 and UNZIP it, chad will have a folder called ADMIN. If you OPEN that folder, inside it will be several SUB-folders and perhaps a few FILES.
THESE are what need to go into YOUR-ADMIN folder. As I said - it's not open heart surgery. Just make sure that all folders and their files get FTP'd to the correct LEVEL in the hierarchy.

Re: Easy Populate support
Hi, I'm hoping you can help, and this question may have been asked in the past before (but 364 pages is alot to have to review first!).
I'm trying to upload new products into my Zen Cart and I''m using the previously downloaded format of a document - Froogle report. I'm a little confused on how to do this. I have the report saved as a .txt file and placed it in my temp folder on the server, then I use the 'Import from Temp Dir (temp/) area to insert into db. I get a message that this was successful, but I don't see any products in my Zen Cart. Am I meant to be doing something else, or doing the upload differently?

I get a message that this was successful, but I don't see any products in my Zen Cart. Am I meant to be doing something else, or doing the upload differently?
What VERSION of zencart?
What VERSION of Easy Populate?

Microsoft was never designed for "developer" purposes. It was designed for "simpletons" who need the software to do a lot of things automatically. Unfortunately, when you use MS stuff for developer or code purposes, it still behaves as if you want it to do a lot of auto-formatting - and there's no way of switching these auto-functions off.
MSOffice is similar, but a lot more respectful of an individual's desire to format stuff manually - so I like to use it as I have a lot more control over how things get formatted.
And there's no "conversion" to worry about. OO will read an XLS file.
Thank you and chadderuski for your replies. I have an update:
1. Easy Populate CSV V1.2.5.7c (the latest version) does not work with older ZC versions, at least when I installed into my 1.3.9h site. So there are 2 versions that you can use if you've upgraded to zc1.5 (EP-CSV1.2.5.7c and EP4.0)
2. Easy Populate 4.0 has options for both older zc1.3.x and the new zc1.5.x and is a fantastic upgrade. After using EP1.2.5.4 for a year it's like trading in your '95 Corolla for a new Lexus!
3. EP4.0 installs separate from any other versions of EP so you can maintain existing functionality while upgrading. This is good since EP is "mission-critical".
3. I updated/enabled metatags for over 12,000 products with EP4.0 using Excel 2007 without a hitch. (Yes, I tested with just a couple products first... I ain't crazy!) So far no need to use Open Office.
THANKS AGAIN!

Re: Easy Populate support
USing ZenCart 1.3.9h and ezpop 1.2.5.4 after upload categories are showing the wrong product counts. 1 category has 1 product but shows 4 as a count. Others show double the amounts actually in the store.

Re: Easy Populate support
Can anyone help with this please?
My install of Easy Populate is working fine, but is missing from the 'configuration' menu.
I downloaded what looks to be the latest version from http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=868
I've tried to upload the SQL patch to no avail.
MySQL v5.0.9
Zen Cart v1.5.1
EP v1.2.5.7c

Re: Easy Populate support
I've just installed this mod,and so far I think things are looking good, but I notice a few threads here that are not replied to, and perhaps I can help out:
Hardy159 => Are you certain you clicked on the install link at the top of the page after visiting the Admin>Tools>EasyPopulate page?
double-happiness => Do you mean to say the Admin>Tools>EasyPopulate menu? It may have been in configuration in the past, but it is not there now.
drago => This sounds like a problem with the data you are trying to move, in one of your products, you use a TAB instead of spaces, which may cause problems with some data downloads/uploads. Change the product to use spaces and you should be ok. Yes, I know it may be difficult to find which product this is. :(

Yes... You should use EP 4 if your site is based on ZC 1.5.x
This is a much-improved and advanced version, and has a number of valuable new features and functions. There is a support thread with a link to GITHUB where the latest "edition" of chad's module will be available.

Re: Easy Populate support
I have upgraded from 1.38 tot 1.51. the module is working, but I have no menu options anymore for configuring easy populate. (only in tools --> easy populate)
How can I make the menu visible again to configure the module, without re-installing or upgrading to other (newer) versions of easy populate?
Remark: The newer versions do not seem to work when I open the exported file to excel (products get mixed up)

Re: Easy Populate support
I had some long time consuming delays with easy populate and wasn't able to find a solution online. I wanted to share my problem and solution. I figure if I had the problem others must too. I have a client who's supplier sends him an xlsx file with most data needed for the easy populate csv file, however it doesn't easily covert because of commas, quotes - apostrophes (used for measurement description), bullet points and more. Hours of frustrations.
First if your using Open Office calc open your downloaded easy populate cvs file and convert it (save as) to a .ods spreadsheet for a friendly work area. DO-NOT convert it to an xl file. I found the hard way that open office will limit the number of characters in a table cell cutting my descriptions length in half. - I was scratch my head for hours.
Second because the upload file needs to be a .csv you can't have commas quotes or apostrophes. What do I do when my product description needs em'? I searched and searched online and I read a lot about what options to select when I save as csv. Nothing worked. Somehow I remembered my old school basic html special characters. After I had place in all the descriptions I did a find and replace
Comma - , replace with ,
quotes - " replace with "
Apostrophe - ' replace with '
Bullet Points - • replace with •
Then save as .csv leave the field delimiter as a comma and delete the quote from text delimiter so it's blank.
Now your csv file is ready to be imported. I hope this helps and save you from frustration and time.

Re: Easy Populate support
Hello everyone,
I am sorry if this question has already been asked but I searched the forum and could not find an answer. :(
My problem is that I have almost 23000 products in my store and when I try to download a complete .CSV file, create a complete .cs or froogle file in temp directory through easy populate my screen just goes white after about a minute and the link of the white/blank page is this:
http://www.domain/admin/easypopulate...am&dltype=full
Is it safe to assume that there is a time restraint somewhere? Or, do I have too many products? When I uploaded my products originally using easy populate I did it by product type so it wasn't one large upload. But since I have uploaded everything, I have moved categories around and I need to export everything the way it stands now so I can't do it by product type anymore.
I am using zen cart 1.5.1 and I just downloaded the latest version of Easy populate about 3 weeks ago. Not sure the version.
Please someone tell me this is an easy fix for a novice/beginner (fingers crossed).
Thank you.

Re: Easy Populate support
ok I am absolutely loosing my mind, I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times today, even did a clean backup from a known good working time, and this is what I am getting whenever I try to upload a file regardless of size, or how much info is in the .csv. However when I go in and check if everything has been loaded up properly it seems to be (I have tested this on files of 1, 10, and 20 changes). which generally would not be that big of a deal, leave it as it is and move on. However I have a file with over 100k changes that need to be made, I have broke this down into files of 500 however it is nearly impossible to track all those updates 1 by 1 and would take more time doing so than going in and manually doing the changes. I would like to think that even in spite of my error that I am getting that everything is being inserted correctly, however with no way to check at once (the list that shows you what has been changed and what has not).
I have tried everything I can think of, I have changed my php memory alotment from 128m to 512m, I have changed the time out from 60 to 240, I have even gone in and optimized the memory alotmont and maximum connections to the database and yet I still get this error am I doing something wrong? My website is "b u l l y s p e r f o r m a n c e . c o m" I do not get this error on any other pages, and I have checked my error logs on the vps and I do not see anything related to the erasypopulate, just a bunch of errors about pictures missing on products where I need to go in and update them to the new picture name, so that the database is looking for the right file.
any help would be greatly apreciated.

Re: Easy Populate support
I was about ready to give up on this when I tried a small change up with EZ Populate CSV. I have MS Office 2013, figured open office would be a pain, so I tried to save the .csv excel as a .csv(msdos), and it works.
It is uploading full product description's and so far I have not seen any errors in the web site. With the regular .csv I kept getting truncated descriptions, so this actually fixed my only trouble.

Re: Easy Populate support
Complete export not working properly. It does create a .csv file and it does have all of the fields listed but I can not get it to actually export product information. All of the other export features work properly. I only have 1 product and 1 category setup so I wouldn't think I'm hitting any size limitations. While I'm not great at PHP I can usually get by. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi All,
I'm using zencart version 1.5.1. Will easy populate (the free version work on this version) or do I have to also use the Easy Populate CSV for the version of zencart that I am using? BTW, what is the difference between the free easy populate and the commercial version?
Any all all inforamtion will definitely be appreciated!

Re: Easy Populate support
I am using this version and it works great!
EasyPopulate-4.0-master
Did have one problem. Seems it was a database error.
I had to install EP before I installed Fast and Easy checkout otherwise EP would not install the admin/configuration portion.
So I'd install it before I installed ANY other plugins.

Re: Easy Populate support
The only easy populate plugin I could get to work was EasyPopulate-4.0-master from the github repository.
However there are two strains of EasyPopulate-4.0-master on github that behave differently
And the only way I could I could get it to install was to install it before I installed the other plugin's like FEC.
There are various strains of Easy Populate:
easy_populate_csv_for_zencart_v1.5.x_v1.2.5.7c
Easy Populate with Group Price Per Item
EXCEL Populate..... And maybe others.
These I could not get to install properly.
IMHO They all need to be combined.
I've spent hours sorting through all the problems associated with this plugin(s).

Re: Easy Populate support
This is my fourth store on ZC so I'm pretty well versed in the cart, but for the life of me I cannot figure this out. I need to add a red link going to another page for "restrictions" for certain product pages right after the description. I've tried everything I can think of to try to use Easy Populate. So I have the description in there - I just need to add "See Restrictions" in red with a link to another page on the site. This applies to about half of my products. Any help?

If you already have something like "Certain restrictions apply." in the description and just want to add "See Restrictions" (with the link) then the most "elegant" way would probably be to use a search & replace in the website control panel with mySQL. But the down & dirty way with Easy Populate would be to just do the search & replace on the description field. At that point you could upload your whole Easy Populate datebase & update everything, even the records that don't need updating, or you could fine tune things by eliminating the records that don't need updating, and just upload the required fields, which I believe are the model number, product name, and in your case the description field. Oh, and don't forget to BACKUP FIRST!!!
-
Re: Easy Populate support
Thanks, I've actually tried that. I cannot for the life of me figure out why it is not taking the changes. I've made the changes in easy populate, uploaded, gotten the message the changes were accepted but the link is not there. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong in the syntax but don't know what it is. I'll try the MySql and see if it takes.

Re: Easy Populate support
Hello
Currently I am using 1.5.1 version of Zen cart
Hosted on local windows PC and wamp installed for other server support.
The installation and other things seems to be working fine.
My main worry is transfer of products and listing to another server. I have installed Easy Populate.
I have updated the database and created many categories and listed products offline. In an attempt trying to transfer all listings to another fresh installation, I found that data is messed up. I identified that, the export data in csv file is not proper, means data is wrongly populated in exl sheet.
products listed to one category is getting shown in another.
Please help me for this serious concern. I dont want to waste my time trying another zen cart like platform.
Thanks in advance

Think about it - the only people who post here on the EP support thread are those for whom things HAVE gone wrong; the hundreds (thousands?) who have no problem with it don't keep posting to say "I have no problem" :wink2:
So, the most recent version is available from
http://www.zencartbuilder.com . This is the pro, paid for, and you get support from the author. However, unless there's been some major changes since I last looked, you MUST HAVE your complete category structure in place; EP does NOT create categories for you.
Dear Friend
I think there seems to be some problem while using easy populate plugin.
As u mentioned There's some old method to get backup of data and restore the listing, could you please help me with that old or manual method so that I can make my self sure of not loosing the product listing.

Actually, just remove this version and install newer version, there is a new one available.
If not, you can just add the column to your database, as its missing from the install file provided, but does appear in the extra functions easypopulate.php file as below:
('', 'Custom Products Fields', 'EASYPOPULATE_CONFIG_CUSTOM_FIELDS', '', 'Enter a comma seperated list of fields to be automatically added to import/export file(ie: products_length, products_width). Please make sure field exists in PRODUCTS table.', " . $group_id . ", '10', NULL, now(), NULL, NULL)
");

Re: Easy Populate support
Is there a way to create an import template to map the files that I get from my distributor to easy populate rather than trying to change the new file every few days? I looked to instructions to use easy populate but found nothing. If I overlooked it I'm sorry. I'm using Zen Cart 1.5.1. Thanks in advance!

Re: Easy Populate support
Zen cart 1.5.3 using Easy Populate For ZenCart v1.5.x
When I download a Froogle file to submit to Google I run into to several issues regardless of using open office or excel:
1) Column B "name field" has a leading space" and a trailing "space. I have to use the find replace or trim command to clean them up.
2) Column C "description" has the same issue. Any blank spaces in the field has been change to 2 blank spaces. If a " character was in the field I now have "" in it's place.
3) Column E "image url" has space characters inserted at random.
4) Column F "category" has a leading and ending empty space. Any single space is now a double space.
5) Column G "offer id" same issues as column F.
6) Column J "brand" If the brand name is more than one word a leading and trailing space is inserted and the space between the words is now double spaced.
Has anyone else run into these problems?

For ZenCart 1.5.x You might want to run the Easy Populate that's stickied in this forum. It works REALLY well. And is similar to the 1.3.9 edition except no direct downloads (via stream). You have to essentially make two clicks. In addition, there are more options as well.

Re: Easy Populate support
well I just made my first screw up with EP. My orginal ZC install did not have any real "Product Model" loaded. I dumped the store out...updated all the Product Models to my Part Numbers...and got brand new parts loaded :(
I can delete these by changing the status code to 9 as I have read before. BUT->How do I update the product model without adding new parts?

after pouring through the code....
it is clear all the processing for EP is done by products_model. I really do not understand this as products_model is not the primary key to the the products table. I have a modification to this file to change this so I can fix my model numbers. Any input on why a non key field is being used in EP? I see what to change but I am worried about really messing something up.

Re: Easy Populate support
I have modified this older version of EP to handle updating the "products_model" field without creating new products. I am not sure what need there is for such an update but if you need this please let me know and I send you the modified file (only one file has been changed). My mods do add a quirk or two but it is really only needed to get your products tables updated once. Then you can use the normal EP version of your choice.

Products Model was essentially chosen since it is often a "neutral" identifier for products and very rarely duplicated in a products database. (I'm still not seeing a reason for a normal product without attributes needs to have a product model that matches.) Product Model was essentially chosen to make things easier to identify in a standard excel sheet rather than assigning a product ID number (which is the key identifier). If you want to remove the products model as being the identifier, you need something to go in its place as its identifier or else you won't have any way to update.
Think to MySQL terms. You can't just say "UPDATE products SET products_price='1.50'". If you do, MySQL will just update EVERY row in the products table with the price. You need to give it some identifier. Then just before that, you need to think in terms of EasyPopulate, EP needs some way of determining whether it is updating or inserting a new row to the appropriate databases. Without using products_model, you need a new field (or combination of fields) to identify the row that you want to update.
In short, a workaround can be done by inserting a column for "products_id" into the export/import functions of EP and then having EP see if it can find a record with that identifier. However, you need to then insert unique ID numbers for EVERY row in your EP CSV file to be imported or else, EP will then create new records each time. In addition, using this method, you need to keep the ID numbers the same way EACH time you plan on importing this file.
That is just my two cents on this.

Re: Easy Populate support
well I was able to tweak it to my purpose by adding the actual products_id into the export sheet. Then, if a row in the CSV files does not have a record number, it is then added as a new product. I really only need this tweak to get products_model modified as to be unique and loaded in the database, then I can go back to the normal side of EP and then maintain the uniqueness of the products_model. It just struck me as odd that EP created a requirement for a second unique field when one already existed.
Frankly, I am not fond of how Zen Cart uses the term "Products Model" To me, this should be a PART NUMBER when there are no attributes. That is why I never fooled around with using it (65% of my products had blanks and this is part of my current problem). I used it partially to define a group of parts designed by X. It was similar to F-150 for a Ford Truck and its the "model" designation. I do remember at the time thinking "where is the part number field for a specific part?"
but the entire process had me thinking about other smaller bits that I may have misinterpreted during my initial setup so I went and bought the Zen Cart ebook. I do not need 95% of it but some of the setup areas in the other 5% are very useful (I am a store owner but more a programmer myself). In fact, I have solved one error in my setup already so its worth the price.
Cheers
Chris

Re: Easy Populate support
Hello All,
I have a few questions, if someone could answer I'd be most greatful! I am building a store with over 4000 products and as this would take me forever to add manually, I googled and came across easypopulate. I have installed it and it is now visible in my admin :) however at the top of my cart, it says the following..
Strange but there is no default language to work... That may not happen, just in case...
Warning Easy Populate Configuration Missing. Please install your configuration by clicking here (I click the link and it takes me to an error page that says 'WARNING: An Error occurred, please refresh the page and try again.'
Warning An SQL error has occured. Please check your input data for tabs within fields and delete these. If this error continues, please forward your error log to the Easy Populate maintainer
I have read through loads of pages on the threads but cant solve these issues :( Has anyone else come across them and if so what did you do to solve them?
I'm using zencart v1.5.x and easypopulate v1.2.5.7c.
Thank you for reading and any help you can offer!
Debby.

Happened to be curious about what issues were being seen in this version of Easy Populate. The above issue was the first thing seen in EasyPopulate V4 to indicate the need to modify EasyPopulate V4 to work with ZC 1.5.3 as a result of changes made to ZC. EP4 is compatible with ZC 1.5.3 (as well as still backwards compatible as it always has been except not with ZC 1.5.2.) More can be found out at: http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.p...Support-Thread. The other reason that has been seen for this issue is that one of the URI rewriters has not been installed according to the author's instructions resulting in one of the ZC core files of the plugin not being merged properly with ZC 1.5.3.
I don't personally know if this version of EP has been updated to work with ZC 1.5.3, I'm pretty sure it could be if not already and if someone wanted to grab the reigns. :)

Re: Easy Populate support
I have been using this and editing the froogle file. The other day it quit downloading the froogle file altogether. I get the new page https://www.my_domain.com/zc_admin/e...dltype=froogle. Blank page and nothing happens. Any ideas? ZC 1.53. Using Easy Populate For ZenCart v1.5.x. I can upload files and download complete.csv files but nothing with the product's URL like google and all the others want to see.

Re: Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 support
Sorted. I'm installed ZC 1.5.1 instead of 1.5.3 and installed EP with no errors. Everything work perfectly now.

I suspect it's hosting side problem. They stated that

Re: Easy Populate support
Getting a timed out error on nginx no matter how large or small the update is:
2014/12/11 11:04:47 [error] 252484#0: *363305 upstream timed out (110: Connection timed out) while reading response header from upstream, client: 172.219.152.71, server: [SERVERNAME], request: "POST /storepath/admindir/easypopulate.php?split=0 HTTP/1.1", upstream: "http://[IP ADDRESS: PORT]/storepath/admindir/easypopulate.php?split=0", host: "[URL]", referrer: "http://[URL]/storepath/admindir/easypopulate.php"
Simple solution is to increase the time allowed in the server's config files. BUT, am wondering what would take over 60 seconds to update a database with just one item? The item is available immediately on the front-end store. But on the Admin side, I wait and wait until the server times out and I get a 504 Gateway error, instead of the proper results page.
SO, I would rather dive into the PHP and fix the inefficiencies. Can anyone tell me what to look for, if they've gone in and fixed these already? Or at least a list of everything that EP does when we send it the text file?
Thanks.

Re: Easy Populate support
My suggestion would be to look for EasyPopulate v4 (still not issued as a plugin for ZC because of a lack of documentation) that can be found via a support thread search.
It was written/rewritten specifically because of that timeout issue.

Re: Easy Populate support
Receiving Internal Server Error when Importing
I installed and began using this plugin in November 2014 with ZenCart v1.5.0. All was working well until a couple of weeks later. I'm receiving an Internal Server Error page after importing products on my site. The products are still getting updated/added (I can see the changes on my website), however I cannot see the results of what was updated/changed anymore since it is displaying an internal server error page after the import. Just to be clear, I'm receiving this internal server error page only when importing products. I do not get the error when downloading/creating files within the interface.
Here are some steps I took to try to resolve the issue:
I'm using the latest EasyPopulate version (v1.2.5.7c). No older versions were installed.
I've removed the plugin and re-installed it.
I made sure the permissions are set correctly on my temp folder.
I made sure my file that I'm importing doesn't contain odd characters.
I've limited my import file to only 3 products.
I'm using PHP version 5.4.22.
Any help would be appreciated.
