You can work in Excel, but when you do your export (for which ever version of EP you use) use Open Office for that. It gives you a standardized CSV while Excel is dependent on which version you have and which type of export you use.

    1. At the download page for Easy Populate CSV it indicates version 1.2.5.7c for ZC 1.5.0 and 1.5.1. But you say the only EP that works with those ZC versions is Easy Populate 4. I currently have 1.3.9h but plan to upgrade this year. Which should be used? (I've been using the old EP 1.2.5.4 but it doesn't have metatag support.)
I uninstall 1.2.5.4 before I upgrade to ZC.1.5 - then I do a full install of EP4 after the upgrade is complete.

Microsoft was never designed for "developer" purposes. It was designed for "simpletons" who need the software to do a lot of things automatically. Unfortunately, when you use MS stuff for developer or code purposes, it still behaves as if you want it to do a lot of auto-formatting - and there's no way of switching these auto-functions off.

MSOffice is similar, but a lot more respectful of an individual's desire to format stuff manually - so I like to use it as I have a lot more control over how things get formatted.

And there's no "conversion" to worry about. OO will read an XLS file.

    Hi all,

I do need help (and relatively quickly).

I had a Zencart up and running nicely with my mod template and then I merely copied the files (as outlined in the installation instructions) Easy Populate only to find my cart then crashed!

I now get the old: "Server error - The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.mysite.com/ecom/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

I literally did nothing other than upload the files in the Easy Populate folder which I downloaded.

I am running Zen Cart 1.5.0

What files would have been over written doing the file upload process that would cause that problem?

    Regards and thanks in advance.

What VERSION of EasyPopulate did you load?

Only VERSION FOUR (EP. v4) works with ZC 1.5.x

And it also sounds like you sent it to the wrong place.

EP gets loaded ONLY into your (secretly named) admin folder. It cannot influence the shop-front. I think you loaded the files to the wrong place.

    Hi SB,

    Thanks for your reply.

I downloaded (what I beleived to be) the latest version from: http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=868

    Ie easy_populate_csv_for_zencart_v1.5.x_v1.2.5.7

    Is this not correct?

So the entire contents of the ZIP file downloaded is dumped down into the "secret named" admin folder within the site root OR within the directory that my Zencart store sits in Ie. www.mystore.com/ecom - ?

I guess that was my mistake - boy (no pun intended) did I misread that on the instructions!

Would I be correct to assume in this case (assuming I did do that) that I will simply have to re-install Zencart and start again?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    BR

The version to use is EP v4 (NOT available in plugin area. Find the SUPPORT THREAD for EP v4, and Chad has put a link to GITHUB where you can download.

Like ANY plugin, the FOLDER/FILE integrity and hierarchy must match that of the zc installation on your server. So you do not just "dump" stuff... you need to make sure that if there is a folder called ADMIN in the plugin, then its contents must go into ADMIN (which will have a different name) on the server.

When you collect EP v4 and UNZIP it, chad will have a folder called ADMIN. If you OPEN that folder, inside it will be several SUB-folders and perhaps a few FILES.

THESE are what need to go into YOUR-ADMIN folder. As I said - it's not open heart surgery. Just make sure that all folders and their files get FTP'd to the correct LEVEL in the hierarchy.

Hi, I'm hoping you can help, and this question may have been asked in the past before (but 364 pages is alot to have to review first!).

I'm trying to upload new products into my Zen Cart and I''m using the previously downloaded format of a document - Froogle report. I'm a little confused on how to do this. I have the report saved as a .txt file and placed it in my temp folder on the server, then I use the 'Import from Temp Dir (temp/) area to insert into db. I get a message that this was successful, but I don't see any products in my Zen Cart. Am I meant to be doing something else, or doing the upload differently?

Thank you and chadderuski for your replies. I have an update:

    1. Easy Populate CSV V1.2.5.7c (the latest version) does not work with older ZC versions, at least when I installed into my 1.3.9h site. So there are 2 versions that you can use if you've upgraded to zc1.5 (EP-CSV1.2.5.7c and EP4.0)

    2. Easy Populate 4.0 has options for both older zc1.3.x and the new zc1.5.x and is a fantastic upgrade. After using EP1.2.5.4 for a year it's like trading in your '95 Corolla for a new Lexus!

    3. EP4.0 installs separate from any other versions of EP so you can maintain existing functionality while upgrading. This is good since EP is "mission-critical".

    3. I updated/enabled metatags for over 12,000 products with EP4.0 using Excel 2007 without a hitch. (Yes, I tested with just a couple products first... I ain't crazy!) So far no need to use Open Office.

    THANKS AGAIN!
    Scott
