SitemapXML v.2

A few random questions on this mod:

1) Should you really leave the permissions set to 777 on the .xml files in the root directory of your site? I've set mine back to 644, but I'm guessing this willl prevent sitemap from updating with the cron job.

2) Google returns that my sitemap contains no urls. Why? I've installed as per the instructions, renamed the googlesitemap.php.txt file, and run "step 1 and 2" from within the site admin.

3) Are the default settings as installed ok for most sites?

4) Testimonials??? Does Zencart have this function, or am I being really thick?


Running 1.3.8a, and sitemapxml 2.1.0.

Right, problem 2) may have been casued by the permissions problem in 1). I temporarily set them back to 777 and webmaster now has all the urls, (but not indexed - I'm guessing this takes time?)

Is there any way around having permenant 777 access to these files. Surely this can't be safe?

My ZenCart is versioin 1.3.8a and have sitemap version 1.3.19.

I am seeing alerts within my Google Webmaster tools for both my ZenCart categories and products XML's. They read....


"URLs unreachable
When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some of the URLs were unreachable. Please check your webserver for possible misconfiguration, as these errors may be caused by a server error (such as a 5xx error) or a network error between Googlebot and your server. All reachable URLs will still be submitted".

"Details" show a 500 type error. I checked under Google Webmaster/Site Owners Help, but not seeing anything related to my alert/error there.

The only thing I thought might help was to hit the "resumbit" sitemap.

That did not work....

Also... hate to confuse the issue... But...

The ZenCart is a subdomain to my .com . Everything looks perfect within Google Webmaster tools for that .com sitemap.

Although I wonder if there is an issue connected somehow.. A site called Ganoksin is no longer able to auto add to that sites blog from my .com blog like they use too... They say it is a sitemap problem.

Is it possible that if the subdomain is having XML issues that it would effect the root site ?

Still kind of hoping someone might know something about the previous post..

I believe I've searched the entire thread for an answer, but I could have missed it somewhere :unsure:

I am using several "Editable Sidebox"s. All of the links in them are for EZ pages, which wouldn't be a problem with your EZPage fix except....I've had to disable the "header", "footer" and "sidebox" ordering in order for the links to show up only in my own sideboxes.

I finally figured out that in order to get the Sitemap to read the EZPages, I had to enable them for just a second while I generated the map. But then I disabled them again.

My question is: will this affect how Google indexes them?? Or does the Sitemap just record the address ("/index.php?main_page=page&id=12" for example") without regard to whether they're "active" in the original zencart framework??

I suppose I could wait until Google indexes my site next to see what happens, but who know when that will be :rolleyes:

If anyone has an idea, or a workaround, I'd love to hear it!!

Not saying this is the answer or I can offer any further suggestions but perhaps it's a permissions problem - check that the sitemap files can be accessed and they are as the mod installation instructions advise..

I had this problem with SSU installed - I reset the caches, made sure all the folders were there, made sure the permissions were all 777 - then checked my .htaccess.

I had a bad rewrite in the .htaccess and removing it fixed the problem.

I received a response today from my hosting company:

"I see that you have a wordpress related script placed in your htaccess file, i think you may need to look at this part as .htaccess modification is known to cause problems with the google indexing."

Problem is that....

I am seeing several htaccess files. None are coming up under the Wordpress (.com) blog, but within the ZenCart subdomain.

I am looking but not able to tell which script they are seeing.

Waiting for a response from them in hopes they can tell me which of these files and maybe even show me the exact script they suspect.

Some of these for what ever reason return a "no record found" when I try to open them up. Yet they pop up after doing a htaccess search from the control panel.

AFAIK, you can only have 1 .htaccess

Sometimes multiple will get created when you make backups, but you should find the right/active one and delete the rest.

Wordpress shouldn't be doing anything to your .htaccess unless it's in the same directory.

Hi,

recently I changed my shop to have 2 separate domains for 2 languages by copying my installation and uploading the copy to an addon domain directory. The sitemapXML has already been installed before that separation.

The problem is that the urls in the sitemap of my addon domain are the urls of my root domain. Eg. in my www.mydomain.com/sitemapezpages.xml. there are only www.myaddondomain.com Urls.

Has anybody an idea how to fix or am I supposed to reinstall the sitemapXML?

Got a note back from host.

They pointed out some Wordpress text within the /public_html/.htaccess so I removed that text and left the script.

If we are only suppose to have one htaccess file, then any idea what all these others are, and if they are necessary..

Is having so many likely causing the problem ? Does Google get confused ? :blink:

Ok... I have deleted all the htaccess files except for the /public_html/.htaccess

Sitemaps are back to normal..

I had hoped that by fixing this that my items might start to show up within Google Products, but not ..... !

Is anyone getting their titles duplicated in google searches? It's just happening for the products so I can't tell if it is because of this mod or the 'google base' mod.

To clarify; for example if you search 'zen cart' and get this result -

I am not seeing this.. But..

Something very odd.. When I coppied a clickable link for a product title within my Zencart and then pasted it into Google to search, it would paste double.

No longer doing it now..

I've just tried to install this mod. SQL patch ran fine, no errors. I am seeing the link to Admin/Configuration/Sitemap XML, but I don't have a link to Admin/Tools/Google XML Sitemap as described in the readme.txt.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm running the latest version of Zen Cart (v1.3.8a/v1.3.8) and downloaded latest version of SitemapXML (2.1.0)

Has anyone added the manufacturers to the sitemap? If so would you be willing to share the addon? Thanks

This one has me stumped.
The remote server's sitemapcategories.xml does not have <lastmod></lastmod> tags.

LOCAL:
Mapped distribution files to local site folders; ran sql patch.
Changed product sort order in config.
Changed category changefreq to monthly.
Everything is fine.

REMOTE:
Mapped local site to remote server; ran remote sql patch.
Changed product sort order in config.
Changed category changefreq to monthly.
Everything LOOKED fine.

But, one report (1 out of 4) has a problem.
The remote server's sitemapcategories.xml does not have <lastmod></lastmod> tags.

The remote server's sitemapproducts.xml has <lastmod></lastmod> tags and data.
The local server's sitemapproducts.xml AND sitemapcategories.xml have <lastmod></lastmod> tags and data.

The local and remote categories tables are identical; confirmed by comparing sql dumps.

Why would the same programs produce, on the remote server, last modified date info for products, but not categories?
Why would the same categories tables have last modified data in local sitemapcategories.xml report but not on the remote report?

It isn't logical. :bangin:
Could there be something buried in the code?

Hey Juxi, long time no see.
I do have those tags in my remote sitemapcategories.xml.
So check all you know what to check: corrupt files, etc.

It has been a long time and is nice of you to remember.
I search for an occasional answer and lurk for awhile.
But, I just don't have available the 6-8 hrs a day I use to spend on the forum.

After much checking and testing, I found the problem.

I update all tables using SQL statements. I don't enter fields where the default is acceptable; have even changed a few field defaults to reduce the data I have to maintain. Normally, I don't bother entering data for "date_added" or "last_modified" and accept the NULL default value. Except for products; because I use that information on some pages.

I use IIS for local server and naturally the remote server is Apache.

When I installed sitemapXML on local server to test, I saw that "Last modification date" was 2001-01-01 for sitemapcategories.xml.

I changed my SQL statement and added today, in yyyyy-mm-dd format, to the last_modified field; date_added field was still empty (NULL).
Local category report looked fine.

However, same PHP files and data produces different reports on an Apache server.

• If both date_added and last_modified are NULL, sitemapcategories.xml contains no tags or data for "Last modification date".
• If data is entered into last_modified field only, as I did, the sitemapcategories.xml still contains no tags or data for "Last modification date".
• Data MUST be present in the date_added field for "Last modification date" information to appear in the XML report.
• If both fields contain date, the later date is used.

These results where found using phpMyAdmin on local and remote server and deleting and adding different date combinations in the category tables.

The way the program is now written,
IIS will supply a date of 2001-01-01 if null and you only need data in the last_modified field.
Apache says NULL means NULL and requires data in the date_added field to work at all.

Remember, I use SQL statements and can create my own problems (and solutions) and ZenCart users who use Admin will never be affected. I may alter my SQL statement to include date_added data ~or~ default date_added to some datetime other than NULL.

As far as the program code;
In sitemapxml_categories.php line 27, I thought it might have failed because "0001-01-01" is out of range for MySQL. Changed to "2003-01-01" and still no joy.

Don't think lines 22 and 27 are getting the job done.
Might be tempted to stick a default "NOW" in there some place.

That's all I came up with.
Now that I understand that date_added field is needed for current code to work on Apache server, I'll take needed action.

I installed this submission and got it up and running; but it appears that it is incompatible with the Simple SEO mod. Instead of the nice SEO urls that I, and google, use:

I get links like:

http://ourcollegetown.net/index.php?...dex&cPath=7_16


Google will not accept a sitemap link that is a redirect. Is there a way to make these two mods play nicely?

I had the same problem as you. I ask yellow over in the simple seo thread to look at it for me. I don't know what he did but he fix it. I think he is in Japan right now so he has little time to help here on the form right now. You can shoot him a email at his site, maybe he will help you. Email him here

Ok I used to have SEO URLS but have since turned it off. I then looked at the sitemap and realised it was showing the old seo urls. So I went to admin and clicked the 'STEP 1: Click [HERE] to create / update your site map. ' But nothing has changed in the sitemap, its still showing the old seo urls? any ideas?

Same question as above, and one more :

1) I am using sitemapxml on a bilingual cart, with Generate language_id for default language = false, and with SEO URLs submittion.
As with the zenners above, my sitemaps are generated with the original url's, not the SEO url's, and google does not like sitemaps that contain 301 redirects.

2) I have ezpages that are only accessible from one ezpage (thoes are articles linked from the main article page)
the main artice page is http://mineralz.biz/page.html?chapter=0&id=1
which links to ezpages like http://mineralz.biz/page.html?chapter=0&id=9

all ezpages BUT those that are linked direclty from the sidebox do not appear in the ezpages sitmap, any idea why ?

I gave him my ftp details to my sever so no I really don't have any correspondence with him except he said it was fixed and sure enough it was. I don't know if he fixed something in the sitemap or in the simple seo add on to get it to work like it should, Sorry

So nothing on the ?&language=en still being included even though it is off? this is causing a lot of duplicates which is not good. Is anyone there?

Got it! It appears you have to manually delete the sitemap.xml and then recreate it for the toggle language to work. no need to uninstall reinstall

I am currently still having the issue with the duplicate urls in googles webmaster tools. Unfortunately getting it removed from your sitemap wont stop the bot from finding the ?&language=en pages since they still exist. I have been talking with Conor, who make the Ceon Uri redirects mod. See here

He is currently beta testing the latest version of his mod that will get rid of these. Unfortunately it isn't ready yet... So we play the waiting game. If anyone else knows of a way to get these to work now, I know I would be greatful

Conor's mod isn't causing the issue with the "?&language=en" being appended to URLs.. This module does that based on the language settings..

and BTW the new version of Conor's app won't get rid of the duplicates in the Googles database.. The new version of Conor's URI module will simply render the correct URI when URLs with "?&language=en" appended to the end are called.. The duplicates will still exist in Google's dtatbases.. Over time when the bots discover that these URLs do not exist they will drop them from their databases.. (you'll have to patient to wait for this to happen as it may take time..)

While waiting for Conor's new release you can try experementing with mods to the .htaccess file and try to replicate what Conor's new version of his URI module will do.. That though is a new topic that should be posted separate so you do not divert either support thread with an off topic subject..

Ok so this is my first post and a major crisis for me. first here are the stats

V 1.3.8
no upgrade, fresh install
have a template
i went through about 15 pages of this thread before asking as i could not find an answer.

so heres the problem. the install went smooth. no hitches. everything ran perfectly. generated sitemaps perfectly......... or so i thought once i uploaded them to google webmaster tools i get this error message.....


Paths don't match
We've detected that you submitted your Sitemap using a URL path that includes the www prefix (for instance, http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml). However, the URLs listed inside your Sitemap don't use the www prefix (for instance, http://example.com/myfile.htm).

There is a big red x next to the error and google wont index them until i get it fixed and it shows the green check mark.

can someone, anyone, PLEASE help me resolve this issue. i feel like a deer standing in the middle of an empty field during deer season

Got a prompt reply from Raine at RubikIntegration regarding non seo urls in sitemap when using SitemapXML and the Simple SEO URL's mod. The problem is now fixed by downloading the latest Simple SEO URL package (version 3.8.3) from the site, upgrade and then make sure to CLEAR the browser session's cache before trying. Also please clear the sitemap xml files and it should the work correctly.

Just upgraded after removing old files and uninstall MYSQL patch but still have the old "Google XML Sitemap" entry in Admin->Configuration. I must have missed an old file or entry somewhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

OK, found a lot of entries from my old install of Google Sitemap in my zen_configuration table and one in my zen_configuration_group table. It seems to me those should be deleted. The uninstall patch did not delete them. Should I just delete those rows in those two tables? Of course I have a backup!

I'm using ZC 1.3.8 with Ultimate SEO + SitemapXML v 2.1.0 30.04.2009.

My sitemaps are not being generated with friendly URL's, as you can see at http://mineralz.biz/sitemapproducts.xml

Thus, google refuses to accept the redirected links and does not index my site.

Any ideas where to look at or what to fix ?

Using 1.38A

Having a sudden problem with sitemaps.

Before mysite/sitemapproducts.xml showed products in all 3 languages that I use, so 3x400=1200 products on 1 sitemap.
Now it shows only products in default language and 2 languages are gone, so 400 products.
Toggling languages in admin does not help.

How to get my other languages back?
(Using SSU, but updating does not seem to differ)

Anyone any ideas?

I hae installed the mod on my computer and everyting went well - then I installed online and at the point of tools sitemap- I get a 404 error - so I double checked the placement of the files and the only ones I really did not know the path for is the xml files that are not in a folder so I put them inthe root directory.

check the settings, got mine to work again with this:

Compress XML File false
Lastmod tag format full
Use Existing Files false
Generate language_id for default language true

I am new to this and there is no step by step guide how to install this xml. Can you tell me which file should i upload and where is the upload location? :blink:

Fixed... Uninstalled "Cache Query".. Not compatible.. All better now..

It's called the "readme" file.. EVERY mod has one (some better written than others) this one has a pretty straight forward one.. Suggest you give it a go..

Back up your store before you install and you can simply rollback if it all goes to hell in a handbasket.. Use Winmerge or Beyond Compare to merge any overwritten core files..

This is a very easy install with no core files changed. There is 1 sql patch. I have installed it on 2 sites now.

If your considering a need for this mod then I would recommend it.

You can set them to 777 and you will be fine.

I'm using IIS with GoDaddy and I can only set directory permissions. I'm unable to set file permissions in the root directory. The only workaround that I think will work will be moving the file to a subdirectory.

Anyone knows how to move the files to a diferent path?

I installed this module and have ended up with hundreds of duplicate title and meta tags in Google Webmaster.

I found that i had 'Generate language_id for default language' in admin->sitemap.xml->configuration set to true - this duplicated all of my pages with language=en in the URL string.

I have since turned this to off and created a new sitemap, but is there any way to get rid of this info in Google (maybe somehow blocking all language=en pages in my robots.txt) as these pages still exist and as far as I can tell wont be dropped off by google.

Now when I go to generate a new sitemap, it loads up in a small box on the screen (as it should) but it shows my shop instead!
The page it shows is:-

Make sure you have your sitemapxml.php file under:

\includes\languages\english\sitemapxml.php

Also make sure you upload it all the files to the right directories.

It looks like you have your 404 page set to your home page, that's why when a page is not found it will show you your home page.

I am using Ceons uri mapping to 301 from

Which redirects to /products

Is there a way to specify this is the sitemap when it is generated so I don't have to go in there and change it every update?

Do i delete my sitemap.xml in Google Webmasters after i have uploaded my sitemap index file as it is showing as the default sitemap and is also listed with my other sitemaps when i click into my sitemapindex.xml.

If you ask why, I've had advice that unless you have 5000+ products (or items ) on your site map, the preferred method is a single file as opposed to the index route.

Same here. I have the same problems. I have contents in all xml files but am getting the same error as you are. I think it's because am using zen 1.3.9. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

I've installed the newest site map generator and am currently using Zen Cart 138a(waiting for kinks and glitches before upgrading!)... When I generate the sitemap, and manually upload it to Google, I get an error from google saying there are XML mismatches. I've checked through the file with an editor and everything seems normal. Has anyone else encountered this and if so, what would cause it? When I look at my sitemap some of the nomenclature is a bit different than other sitemaps in various examples i've seen and i'm beginning to wonder if this utility is actually 100% compatible.

Just upgraded to Zen Cart 1.3.9a last week, then applied the patches to make it 1.3.9b.

I had this mod installed previously (on 1.3.8a) and it worked fine. After the upgrade I re-installed sitemapxml__formerly_google_sitemap_2-1-0. When I click to update my sitemap, I get the pop up window that has the links there. But when I click on the links all I get is the following:

So until I can figure out what's wrong, I just uploaded the sitemaps that I had backed up before I upgraded. I don't know how to fix the gss.xsl stylesheet, which is what I gather is wrong?

I think that is more to do with the browsers inability to view these types of files. Try opening them with Notepad++ or something similar.

I have the same problems.

I installed this, put all the files in the right places and reset permissions. I have installed lots of plugins so I am familiar with the process. Regardless, I cannot get this to work. It looks fine in the admin panel but when I click to generate the sitemap, the target window pops up with the address

The definition of this error according to Google's Webmaster Tools is this:

I tried to validate the sitemap and got an error and a warning:

The error has to do with having an even number of URI's... (sorry, don't know what that means.. haven't gotten that far yet...)
The warning is;
The reference to entity "amp" must end with the ';' delimiter.
I tried to put the the ';' behind the amp and of course none of the pages can be found... :frusty: Of course not! That's because that's not where the products are! So I still don't have any answers that will help. Sorry this is long and probably not helpful to anyone!:wacko:

AARGH...disregard this. I double-checked my uploads (I swear Filezilla is deliberately trying to mess me up), and several files were missing. I now get an indication that several files are written.

This is in my test configuration, so I don't want to actually submit it to google et al, but I'll do it on my live site and report back.

OK, I just uploaded it to my live site (keeping a very sharp eye on Filezilla this time)...ran the install SQL and went to Tools->Sitemap XML. Step one ran fine, and step two informed me that four search engines were successfully notified and accepted the sitemaps.

Whatever problem anyone may be having with this, it's not an issue with v139.

It lists the content of site sitemapproducts.xml as I've asked it but it shows the paths of the products being for example:-

http://www.website.com/shop/index.ph...oducts_id=3955

This is incorrect, as if I click on it, it loads in FF, but the shop shows and says 'Sorry, the product was not found.'

The correct link should be:-

http://www.website.com/shop/index.ph...oducts_id=3955

So I need a way to get rid of the 'amp;' from the sitemap.

Any ideas please as this problem is rendering my sitemaps useless. :(

I just discovered a bit of a glitch with SitemapXML on my site. I'd noticed that the update frequencies for products and categories were set to "weekly," and I changed them to "daily." When I updated the files via the Tools page, and checked the XML files, they kept the "weekly" update frequency.

Do I need to do something else to get these to change in the XML files?

I have recently found out though that the information within the xml files is incorrect.

Are you trying to click the links within the feed itself? This won't work! The feed is for Google, not for you. If I go to google and type

What I'm doing is using Traffic Travis for page analysis. It gives me the option to import a sitemap file to analyse keywords.
When it uploads the file, the link (the link I label as incorrect) it gives out a error 404. So it basically does what happens if I click on the link.

Do i delete my sitemap.xml in Google Webmasters after i have uploaded my sitemap index file as it is showing as the default sitemap and is also listed with my other sitemaps when i click into my sitemapindex.xml.

I think it's about permission. So, I did the following steps to make it work :

Look for file "/includes/modules/pages/sitemapxml/header_php.php"

Search for : $zen_SiteMapXML->setStylesheet($tpl_dir . '/gss.xsl');

Then, change to : $zen_SiteMapXML->setStylesheet('/gss.xsl');

Then, copy gss.xsl file from /includes/templates/template_default/css/gss.xsl to /gss.xsl

Generate Sitemap again. By the way, I'm using Zencart 1.3.9c

I've got the same problem. That "hack" DOES work.......to some extent, but what I'd like to know is why this is doing this in the first place. I can set permissions to 777, and still get this error. Anybody know why?
Version..........1.3.8a...............works perfectly.
Version..........1.3.9b...............error loading gss.css

I have a WordPress blog integrated within my Zen Cart - would it be possible to have SitemapXML v.2 create a sitemap for the blog as well?

Hopes this helps: I upgraded to 1.3.9b and started receiving all sorts errors with this add-on, which I had working fine earlier. The above mod does work, for the "trouble loading xslt stylesheet error. However, I had to manually edit the individual sitemap file (sitemapproducts.xml, sitemapcategories.xml, etc) to point the stylesheet href to the new location. Since these files didn't change, they were not updated when I reran the generate Sitemap tool.

I also received an error: "junk after...<url>^ at line xxx in the Sitemap.xml file. Once I found line 439 (about halfway through file)while editing that file, I found a </urlset> stuck in the middle of the sitemap. I moved that line to end of file and this eliminated that error.

Now, all of the sitemaps appear to be working again.

Is there a reason you're not using the Google XML Sitemaps plugin for WordPress? It works great, lasts a long time and fixes itself.

I was considering it, but wasn't sure if having two separate .xml sitemap systems in place was wise :wacko:
