Re: Watermarks, Hover & Additional Image Issues
I'll be removing IH2 v2 rev7 later today after several hours of reading through this forum for solutions on the watermarks and hover. I was able to get watermark & hover working for small to medium but not medium to large.
Many of my products have additional images which were fully functional prior to IH but are now not showing. I see this has been an issue that's occurring for people but don't see a solution that applies to my image structure.
I also have issues under Tools - Image Handler If I click a product and display the images appear and then just disappear, however some products show perfectly fine.
I may try a fresh install in the future/next weekend to see if it's a bad install on my part but for now....

If you are referring to the hover effect on the product page image, this feature has NEVER worked in Image Handler

Have you looked at your product names.. Certain characters in product names can affect the modules behavior and the the additional product images behavior. This has been a well documented function in Image Handler.

Thanks for responding DivaVocal!
I'll take a look but I have 1200-1300 products some with additional images and some without. I'm not sure it will be worth the hours that may be involved. I can add a watermark using other methods and my end goal was to add Fual Slimbox.

Double quotes and single quotes in product names are common culprits (and this has been documented in this support thread). I imagine that forward and backward slashes would also possibly cause issues as well..

I cannot find any "Optional Extras" folder in the download. I downloaded twice just to make sure I got a good download. Is this "Optional Extras" folder and files within no longer apart of this contribution? Is the readme.html file not entirely updated for the latest version? Can I disregard any talk about "Optional Extras"?
Thanks!
I can't find a folder named "optional extras" either. Can someone tell me what this is referring to in the zip file? Is it all the folders with the name extra_ in them? My first time installing, I skipped those and my admin panel wouldn't load giving me two error messages that those files were missing. I plan to use Slimbox on top of IH2. So, I really need to exclude these. I'm going to uninstall IH2 now. Hoping for a response :)

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
HI
As long as you have downloaded the updated version I think your good to go - There is no optional extra files in there - Im on the understanding that the optional extra files were in the previous versions which had errors and the current version has rectified the errors without the option extra files.
I installed image handler 2 a couple of weeks ago and didnt get any optional extra files - I just followed the installation guidelines and everything works file.
I would suggest you add the 2 files which you missed out and that should do the trick
thanks
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Just forget the Optional Extras folder.
As has been copiously explained in this thread, the readme, the restoration.zip files, etc., that folder was inserted in the previous version and caused a support nightmare, which still continues.
You DO NOT need it.
Just install rev. 7 as is.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Why won't the hover image appear on the product page? Would it not just be about copying the same-code from the category-hover onto the product-page hover?

Hovering on the main product image has never worked in this module. I'm sure it's possible.. However, as of yet it just has not been executed successfully.. Attempts to add this feature to the module have resulted in issues with compatibility with certain lightbox modules.

Featured Box not working?
Image handler has been running great for awhile now. But I just noticed that images don't seem to be loading from the bmz_cache from my featured box:
http://beta.buydentalequipment.com/about_us/
I took a peek at sideboxes/tpl_featured.php and tpl_specials.php and I didn't notice anything different with the zen_image links. Specials box works just fine.
Just wondering if anyone knows why it works on one and not the other?

I suspect its because that image is "smaller" than the "small" image size.
So..... IH doesn't size it "up" it leaves it as is. It doesn't need to use the cache as its the original image.
PS: Your image sizes could use a bit standardization. They seem to be all different sizes

That was it. It turned out to just be one particular picture in the featured category.
The images are a mess. I've been slowly cleaning them up. They used to have the wrong extensions.. IH2 didn't like that.

Hi, I have run into some problems with IH. I have the latest d/l of zen. I have used IH before so I am clueless as to why the images are duplicating the same number. I am also using Zen Lightbox. I have attached a pic.
Any thoughts?

My clients now use a watermarking tool that batch processes whole folders of files.. Then they upload the watermarked images via IH2.. I know that's not the solution to what's wrong with IH2, but it is a viable alternate solutionif it helps.
Should I stop looking or is there a solution after that?
Thanks DivaVocals.
Hrmm.. had this same problem on my beta site just now. Finally tracked it down.

The file controlling the cache folder is:
/includes/extra_configures/bmz_io_conf.php
I have not changed the name, so I don't know if you have just change it or if there's more to it than that.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I'm using zencart 1.3.8a with ih2 image_handler__for_vx_Ver2-0rev7 and jq zoom Version: 1.5
Have a problem with multiple images. If I add 3 images all appears to work well and ih shows resized images but on the product page the last image is squashed. If I look at the html source for the product detail page the product images are the large size image and scaled to fit.
So ih2 doesn't appear to be resizing and also has the wrong size for the last image uploaded. Have I done something wrong? Please help.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I just installed IH2 a few days ago & have been unable to get additional product images to show. I've read through many posts on this thread and others about this issue and have attempted the suggested fixes (including installing the restore patch), but have not been able to resolve the problem. I'm using the latest IH2 on a test site with Zen Cart 1.38.
Thanks!

Link to site might help the community help you.. Also do ANY of your product names contain double or single quotes??? If they do and you've read through this thread, you would have seen posts where it's been discussed that single and double quotes in product names will cause issue with this mod displaying additional product images..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
A quick question please: I currently have IH 2.0 for zen 1.3.7
I would like to upgrade to IH2 v2 rev 7 as I understand this also fixes the IE hover issues (where image can disappear out of visual site)
As far as I see it's a very simple over right to the existing vs above.
* Rename \includes\templates\YOUR_TEMPLATE to match your template's folder name
* Rename admin to match your admin folder name (if you have renamed your admin folder)
* FTP to your site
* Go to Admin > Tools > Image Handler and click on the "Install Image Handler" link
The only concern I have is I also have the JS scroller installed, will this be affected by the upgrade.
Thanks for your assistance

Dunno for sure.. To be safe you should compare your other module files to the IH2 module files before installing and merge any changes in the common files..
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Thanks for that,
I can confirm that installing this module was so simple I went to make coffee, also got rid of the clutter as per instructions:
* A shopad folder was added, which was a duplicate of the admin folder and served no purpose, probably inadvertently left over by the original developer.
* In the admin/includes/modules a corrupt file was left behind: category_product_listing.php.patch
This module does not interfere or overwrite any files from the JS Scroller sidebox package vs1.
One last question if I may, how can I increase the size of image that I hover over.
I will post my settings below. Thanks RR

Thanks for the compliment. Of the 3 pics the one with the handbag is an original image size of 710 x 1645 that was uploaded using ih2. On the page it is shown resized to 153 x 260 when it should be 112 x 260 and so squashed.
IH2 doesn't seem to have resized and saved the pictures though it shows the sizes.
Totally confused.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't see SQUASHED looking images at all when I look at your product pages..
Nevertheless IH2 seems incomplete on your site.. You should review all of your IH2 settings and the image swapping module you are using.. It's possible that there are files that the image swapping module has in common with IH2. If you haven't merged the common files, you could end up with the issues you are currently having.. You will need to merge those changes in the common files using a program like Winmerge or Beyond Compare..

Thanks for that however, I am unable to achieve my objective successfully I simply wanted to increase the image size when I hover over it but I have had no luck in even coming close to a setting that allows this, perhaps its me perhaps IH is not capable of it. The only time I have seen the images go large is if the file permissions in bmz_cache are not writable.
I also wanted to marginally increase the size of the following:
Images
Title Value Action
Small Image Width 100
Small Image Height 80! Info
Heading Image Width - Admin 57 Info
Heading Image Height - Admin 40 Info
Subcategory Image Width 100 Info
Subcategory Image Height 100! Info
However I tried a combination of things like omitting the second figure, dropping the forced!, in achieving the desired size, my hover feature stopped for the featured products in the middle of the page though maintained working for the side boxes.
It used to be the same in the old IH 2.0 for zen 1.3.7. The site is www.adulttoys4u.com.au/shop (adults 18)
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi guys, I'm sure I'm just missing something simple, but I can't figure out why the images on the product listing page won't open larger images. I've got Image Handler 2 installed, I can access it in admin section, I'm not getting any errors....so how can I get it to open the larger images from the product listing page?

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi
I just installed IMAGE HANDLER 2 because I thought it was able to make the category images smaller etc.
I removed all the images from the server because the store was running slow as the images were too big in size (300 x 300px).
Can someone please help me in what I am supposed to do. I am still new to all this.
Thank-you
Kind Regards

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I just installed this too so it will aide in loading pages faster and could not get the little pop up image (when hovering) to apply in all images. it would only apply to the small image.
I finally got all images to have the hover image by setting them all to the same size....i set them to be width: 155 and height: 155 mainly because i did not want the images to be too large for more to show on pages
the controls for setting the image size are under configuration/images at the bottom of the list
and then you should see a pink "i" in the categories listing of your products to add the images in and there is another section under tools to look at or add images or edit the ones you uploaded.
you enter your descrition and information as usual then do your attributes then finally do the images and to do that you hit the new image button from the products "i" window then brouse your computer to where it is and click save....i entered mine into the small section and t took care of the med/lrg by itself.
very easy to use.
the load of info is for another noobie that may happen upon this thread.

Using Zen 1.3.8
Mods: IH2 and Fualslimbox
I am having a similar problem problem. I do not get the hover or the larger popup image.
This may have something to do with Fual Light box since I may not have either mod properly setup. Could you take a look at my settings in the attachments, then tell me what you think I should do?
There is no hover effect and not picture enlargement. When I click on a picture at my new products page, I get a blank page. The site URL is http://montereybayimages.com/catalog/ .

There seems to be some controls missing in the IH2 section of admin/configuration/images
are you sure it is IH2?
did you go under tool/image handler2 and click to install it there too
are you sure you uploaded the files into all the proper folders?
I asked that becasue in the image of the template folder you have two files that are loose and should be in folders.
I suggest you open the zip for IH2 again, compare the folders it has with your server and ensure you got all the files in their proper place. It is very easy to miss and stick them in the wrong folder
url should be http://montereybayimages.com/Catalog in order to see it
if you hover over the little + it gives you the hover image.
if you make all the sizes the same size then you will not get a larger image so if your main thumbs are 80x80 then try making the next sized ones about 125x125 then the larger ones 600x600 -- admin/configuration/images

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Ok, here's the deal. I'm migrating my friends Zencart site and got almost everything working, however the images are not functional. I saw he was using the Image Handler that came from here, and am hoping for some help. The temp address I'm migrating to is:
http://67.20.120.221
It's running Zencart 1.3.5.
To reproduce the problem, please click on the "Artisans of Ecuador" under the Designers column on the left. You'll notice the pictures aren't coming up. I noticed the source code for them is a little different than normal. The pictures are located in public_html/images/ and the source code says they're being read from public_html/images/small/ (which doesn't exist of course) and all the image names have an _S added to them before their extension of .jpg or whatever they're using. I believe this Addon is the culprit but haven't been able to figure out why.
Is there a cache section or something I should have updated during the migration? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as I'm trying to get this done by the end of the day. Thanks in advance!

I will say that looking at the one page you sited it appears that IH2 is not installed or may be installed incorrectly..
Transferring a site from one place to another is simply a matter of backing up and uploading the cart files, then backing up and uploading the DB. After that you need to make sure you update your configure.php files to match the new database and file location data. It's usually a pretty seamless process..
That said there's a few things here that make it difficult for anyone to provide any good answers.
- Did you try to update/re-install IH2 after you moved the site??
- If not what version of IH2 are you running??
- Your version of Zen Cart is VERY old
Because you are using ver 1.3.5 of Zen Cart I've no idea how this and any IH2 changes you may have made in the site move would affect IH2..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
@PleaseHelpMe
first thing you should do is upgrade to version 1.3.8a if zencart then do the security updates before going through the process of fixing things.
Some files must ahve been overwritten too with add-ons and such. Please list the add-ons that are in the cart also.
Was it workiing before the move?

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hey guys, first of all, thanks for your replies. I do appreciate them very much. Second of all, here's your answers:
* Did you try to update/re-install IH2 after you moved the site??
* If not what version of IH2 are you running??
* Your version of Zen Cart is VERY old
I did not try to reinstalling IH2 after the move.
I have Version: 2.0.
Yes, I already tried to do a "simple" upgrade to 1.3.8, however, this Zencart has been heavily modified by other programmers it seems and I got nothing but errors when I attempted the upgrade. I too thought that migrating the zencart would be easy enough after importing the database and editing the configuration files.
@DarkAngel
"first thing you should do is upgrade to version 1.3.8a if zencart then do the security updates before going through the process of fixing things."
Essentially you're correct, however my timeframe for fixing the pictures is the very short and makes them the highest priority at the moment since the old hosting for this company expires Sunday night and they'll be without a working website if that part isn't fixed by then.
As for all the addons this Zencart store has in it, here's a list of the folder in the /public_html/includes/modules/ directory.
classic
debug_blocks
merkkledingshop
old
order_total
pages
payment5
shipping
sideboxes
ubo2
ubo2_xmas
usabrandsonline
And yes, this was working before the migration. You may view the live site here: http://tribalsociete.com.
So, if you think reinstalling IH2 is the way to go, I'll give it a shot and report back. Until then, please list any other idea you may have. Thanks again for the help.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
about the images....when you moved to the new provider did you download all the files from first server to your desktop...then reup them to the new server?
if yes then you have the images...yippeeee
if not then that is one reason they do not show.
another thign when moving from server to server or even folder to another area but new directory on same server....
fix the config files to show the proper path but also go to myphpadmin and fix the path there too for the images and any other place where the path will be different
if you are sure ih2 is correctly installed then try going to admin/tools/image handler 2 and go through each item and re do the images...try with one first to see it it works.
if you did downoad all the files from your first server then they will be on your desktop for finding and repalcing.
now I realize that you think it is essential to get the images up and going but without the actual update to the latest zencart you put the entire store in jepardy of hacking...then site is poof anyway.
find out what mods have been added, download them from the site here (or get the zips from the owner if purchased elsewhere) then do the upgrade and followup with the mod installations, one at a time with test in between.
very time consuming and it will take awhile for someone new at it but will be worth it all in the end.
I do not think those are the list of addons that you see there...you will need to find out what the other developer instaled into this store...like lightbox or slimbox...Image handler 2...sales report, take a look at the free sotware addons link at the top of the page to see what I mean.
Time crunch is there but they really should have done this much sooner to be easeir on you and them.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Still don't know which version of IH2 you are running.. They're ALL Ver 2.0, with different Revision numbers.. But no matter..
If you attempted a "simple" upgrade after the move then this may be the cause for your problems.. Like I said a site MOVE (not a site MOVE then a site UPGRADE) is a VERY simple matter.. Back up the site and the database, move them to the new host, then update the configuration files to reflect the new file paths, database servers etc.. Regardless as to whether this is a heavily modded site or not, this should work..
Since time is of the essence, and my guess is that this is a site you are taking over for someone else, you may not have enough time to do an upgrade TODAY or even tomorrow.. So my recommendation is a little different.. I suggest concentrating on the AS IS move first.. Once you have the site up and running AS IT IS TODAY on the new host, then you can work on upgrades, etc.. I would suggest concentrating on as AS IS move first.. THEN deal with upgrades by testing it in a development/test area..

I asked that becasue in the image of the template folder you have two files that are loose and should be in folders.
I suggest you open the zip for IH2 again, compare the folders it has with your server and ensure you got all the files in their proper place. It is very easy to miss and stick them in the wrong folder
url should be
http://montereybayimages.com/Catalog in order to see it
if you hover over the little + it gives you the hover image.
if you make all the sizes the same size then you will not get a larger image so if your main thumbs are 80x80 then try making the next sized ones about 125x125 then the larger ones 600x600 -- admin/configuration/images
Thank you for your response. Yes, I am using IH2, but I failed to post a capture of the Tools/Image handler2 settings, which work fine. I have attached the Tools/Image/handler 2 capture to this posting.
In the meanwhile, I am going to follow your advice, "I suggest you open the zip for IH2 again, compare the folders it has with your server and ensure you got all the files in their proper place. It is very easy to miss and stick them in the wrong folder."
Also, the images are in increasing sizes and I added the suffixes _large, _medium, and _small to my images. I am implementing your suggestions tonight.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
OK, so I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong with my IH2 caching. I moved my entire site to a new server. At first I didn't bring over the contents of the bmz_cache folder because I figured I might as well just let the site build them again instead of transfer all of them and taking a lot of time. But after discovering that the images weren't being scaled and cached, and trying to reset cache, and ultimately fully reinstalled with no success, I brought over the contents of the cached files from other server.
I used the "find old.." function and no images were found. I tested to see if the images that were being served were cached images, or just the originals. It was about half and half.
Hover on small was working, the folders 1,2,3,A,B,C, etc. were being generated, but no images in them! So now I'm just at my wits end trying to figure this out. I turned off hover, as to reduce load time if customers start hovering image while page is still loading (and because the hover is displaying full size image).
Site is structured like domain.com/store with images in /images/00000001 (set up this way as I anticipate I will have several thousand images as time goes by and do not want to have to house all of them in a single folder, this way I will have 00000002 and so forth.
Lastly, I have a feeling it has to do with permissions. I have noticed that files/directories that used to be fine at 755 (or even 644) are now fussy if they aren't 777, which I am not very comfortable with at all. I have moved to a ded. virtual server with mediatemple, and unfortunately don't have much experience with server admin. Old hosting was on a shared server that was managed for me :) So I'm not real sure what settings I have to change on server to allow the 755's and 644's to still have the proper behavior. So for now, I have changed the permissions on bmz_cache (and children), cache, and images folders all to 777.
Please help!

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Yes, I agree with you about getting the site up and running "as is" first and then worrying about upgrading. I had actually tried installing revision 7 and it looks like they were running an older version since the script_imagehover.js was the only file not already located on the server. However, I did also notice that about 40% of the files on the server were different sizes from the ones in the default zip for revision 7. Either that's because it's an older version, or they were edited.
Anyways, I also think that it should be working if I update the configuration files and database settings correctly so I'm thinking I may have missed a basic one. I'm familiar with the admin/includes/configure.php and the includes/configure.php files and those "should" be correct. However, I have an inclination that I may be missing something in the database. What usually needs to be updated in the database after migrating to a new server?
Also, I do believe we're making progress on finding a resolution to this issue. Since I'm not familiar with IH2, and only semi-familiar with zencart, the more I browse it the more I'm figuring out and learning. The Tools -> Image Handler 2 does show the pictures correctly. The default picture, Small, Medium and Large sizes of it. So the pictures are there, but the problem seems to be in rendering the pictures using the edited sizes (as small, medium or large images) once they're edited by IH2.
I hope this is a simple overlook of a path needing to be updated in the database. Thanks again for your quick responses, let me know what you guys think.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
OK, so I think I've [I]kind of[I] found the problem. All the zc files and directories are owned by the user myuser while the directories that are created in the bmz_cache directory when an image is loaded, are all owned by the user: apache
I think this is why the permissions are a bit off... user apache is owner of files that myuser should own. Is that right? Sorry, like I was saying, I know VERY little about server admin.
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
YES! That was it!!! I just ran chown -R root bmz_cache and it fixed the write ability!! Now... off of thread topic.. how might I prevent the user apache from making itself the owner for future instances?

ok but in the configuration/images bunch of settings there are some missing unless you did not get all of them in the image....
listed at the bottom of those settings are supposed to be some setting specific to ih2

Definitely permissions.
On your server web files are created with user apache group apache whereas the files you create will be user USERNAME group psacln
Way to get around it is to add the user apache to the groups psacln and psaadm in your /etc/groups file
I honestly still have permissions problems.. need to bust out the book and completely figure out how *nix handles em.

Once you chown there is no way another user can take ownership.
But...there is no need to chown (unless you are hitting a very weird Apache configuration), just set both images and bmz_cache folders to same perms. 755 first and then 777 if that does not work.
And yes, the readme explains that.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
HI.. This is my first post.. I am not sure if i am posting on the wrong place.
My problem is that my website has problem with the Jcarousel which i use for posting categories of products. This is a template monster template. I install image handler 2 but not sure if its IH2 that causes the problem.
Please see on www.3gcyprus.com
The Jcarousel loads wrong.. It shifts the images vertical and after few seconds place them horizontal.. This problem has been killing me.. Please advice if there is a solution on that.
thanks.

I did not get all of the settings in the image. I have several attachments now that include that information. Please see the new attachments.
I reinstalled Image handler 2 and checked the directory structure to make sure all of the directories and files exist in their appropriate places. I now have two remaining issues/problems:
First problem:
Under MENU\admin\tools\Image handler 2
Boat Works Image sizes: 80x80, 150 x 112, 160 x 120.
Equal a small, medium, and large picture.
While in this menu, When I click to enlarge the largest picture size under Image Information; the pop up picture's property indicates 160 x 120.This is the largest size indicated in the product information. How can I get a larger pop up picture under this menu? My _large images are (640 x 425).
Is it possible to just increase the size property's in Image Handler 2 because my _medium images are 300 x 240, but I get only a 150 x 112 image when I hover over an image. Maybe I should experiment with the property sizes in Image Handler 2.
When I experiment with the size properties, I loose my hover. Evidently, I am incorrectly changing a setting. Which setting works to reach my objective?
What are your thoughts? In your opinion, in the default installation, is Image Handler 2 doing what it is supposed to do? If it is working properly, maybe I need to leave it alone for now.
Second problem:
When I go to http://www.montereybayimages.com/Cat...index&cPath=65, my photography page, I get the hover effect, which is fine. When I click on an image, I am moved to a blank page. In this case it is
http://www.montereybayimages.com/Cat...roducts_id=181, since I clicked on the China Cove image.
How can I fix this problem with the link to a blank page?
Could this have something to do with Fual Slimbox, which is the other mod installed and maybe Image handler 2 is working just fine.
Please let me know. The site URL is located at http://www.montereybayimages.com/Cat...ex&cPath=65_66. This site is not currently on line for business and is a work in progress. Thanks for your assistance.

try going into the slimbox controls and set the width and height to your image sizes and also in the ih2 settings under configuration/images

it appears to be behaving, give it about a week or so to just make sure you got it all fixed then see what happens.
ok, first for me all the images go to a blank page. on the server first check the bmz cache folder and make sure it is permissions at 777 or 755 try one then if that still is blank try the other one.
if still blank after that then you will need to look in that cache folder to see if there are any .php files...I think they are php files. check for anything NOT a image files. They may be outside the folders living in there.
open one in a text editor and write down what it says then post back here. mine went to a blank page too but it was because I forgot to set the cache folder permissions.

see if anything I mentioned works and let us know

As the IH2 readme indicates the current version of IH2 was tested with BOTH Lightbox AND Fual Slimbox. I use Fual Slimbox consistently, and I have NEVER had any issues with it or IH2 working together..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
From what I can see on the product listing page, IH2 is working just fine.. (http://www.montereybayimages.com/Cat...index&cPath=65)
As for the issue with blank pages (as demonstrated on http://www.montereybayimages.com/Cat...roducts_id=181), this does not appear to be a Fual Slimbox or Image Handler issue at all..
You are using the document product type. So the product detail pages are the ones specific to the document product type, and I've got a feeling that the REAL issue lies within some code on the pages for this particular product type. To that end I suggest posting a separate question in the forum so that you can get help that will resolve your real issue..

I do not understand why simply moving the site from one host the other would affect IH or anything else on your site from working.. However it sounds like you've got a combo of things going on.. You're moving a site, doing some minor semi upgrades, and you are running a VERY old version of Zen Cart.. I'm afraid that without seeing it for myself, I don't having ideas what MIGHT be going on.. Hope someone else has more insights for you..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hope someone can help me!!
my IH2 install has started to act strange!!!
i have IH2 installed on 2 test sites... both were working fine yesterday but today both seem to have uninstalled themselves (i dont know how)
anyway, i reinstalled IH2 via
Admin > Tools > Image Handler 2 > Admin > Install Image Handler
i thought everything was working ok again but i have noticed that my additional images are not being displayed on the product pages at the front end of the websites...
for example additionalimage_01 and additionalimage_02 etc
when i logout of the admin and log back in these additional images are their in the adminside of IH2 but just not being displayed on the front end.
anyone ever come across this before???

This might be a stretch, but I have seen something similar (not IH related)... things don't just uninstall, and templates don't just change. When something similar happened to a client of mine, my suspicion was on the hosting company and after hours of discussion with them, they admitted that they were doing an upgrade on the servers, something went bad, and they restored an old backup.
Again, I'm not blaming your hosting company, but that is where I would start.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi Ahmad Rahman,
its my own server
I installed IH2 a few weeks ago, then last week i installed the mod http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=915
I checked that nothing was over ridden from all the mods i had previously installed and i believe there are no common files between these mods...
yet it has happend after installing this mod?...
do you (or anyone else) know why? or how i can fix this? ::(:
cheers
dont know if this helps, additional images i added via FTP before i installed IH2 still show..??

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
i have just done some more testing,
3rd test site,
installed IH2
configured and working fine
installed captcha-number-subject-combo-in-one-1.0
configured and working fine
then looked into the IH2 admin part and the same happened, it was uninstalled...
I clicked on install IH2 then adds additional images to a test product, but it works..
ARGH! haha, i hate life sometimes!!
why?.. hope someone can give, give guidance!!

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
i have played some more..
it seems that i can create new products and assign additional images to the new product and IH2 works fine!
however, any products that already had additional images before my uninstalled/reinstall problems do not show these additional images on the product page of the front end of the site. even deleteing all images and creating new additional images has no effect?
any ideas?
is this a problem with IH2 after it's uninstalled via the admin and reinstalled? or is this caused because of the mod i added (captcha-number-subject-combo-in-one-1.0)
does IH2 always uninstall after another addon writes to the db?
can this be fixed?
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
ok... just had another play...
dont know if this is of any help to anyone..
i have noticed that products which IH2 had assigned additional images to have had their image format changed... (before captcha install)
for example
additional_image01.gif is now additional_image01.jpeg
hahaha, i have no idea why or what i have done wrong!

Now granted, it appears you have contributed to this module, and are certainly active on this thread, but about 50% of the replies I see from you are backhanded and often incorrect. Just to let you know. EVERY FOLDER images and bmz_cache, and all sub-folders of them were set with 777 permissions. It was a server permissions problem as the folders were owned by apache.
Instead of saying that "yes, the readme explains that" (which it says absolutely NOTHING about server user permissions) maybe YOU should read subsequent posts before chiming in with your two cents. You were, as with many cases I have seen, completely incorrect on this issue. Once more, it was already resolved!
If I may make a suggestion: If you don't wish to answer questions about this module (or tactfully at least), perhaps you should request another advanced user of IH2 to maintain it. Instead of making comments like "I agree with DivaVocals, who BTW wrote the readme.
RTFM!! "
The manual should be read, I agree. But understand, not all people have the same skillset or experience level. Did you know the ins and outs of ZC when you built your first cart? NO... Did you know php when you first took to programming? Of course you didn't. Although you may now, I would venture to say 75% of the users on this forum do not. Have some patience with people, don't be so bitter. I'd rather receive 5 incorrect yet kind replies from people trying to help, rather than 1 correct yet disdainful reply from someone who is bitter about helping.
Oh and one last tidbit. "Once you chown" yes another user can take ownership, just chown again buddy..

But...there is no need to chown (unless you are hitting a very weird Apache configuration), just set both images and bmz_cache folders to same perms. 755 first and then 777 if that does not work.
And yes, the readme explains that.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Just installed this mod, and 1.) It does not obey the 'Hover on Hotzone Only' option, and 2.) does anyone know how I can set IH2 to ONLY work on the Additional Images? I do not want it to work on my product listing images.
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Some of mine did that to me once but going to the ih2 section in tools and then click clear image cache might help, it made mine reappear.
IH2 renames the files automatically unless you do the suffix thing on your own...I let it do its thing.
did you install anything to the stores after you installed IH2?

Admin > Tools > Image Handler 2 > Admin > Install Image Handler
i thought everything was working ok again but i have noticed that my additional images are not being displayed on the product pages at the front end of the websites...
for example additionalimage_01 and additionalimage_02 etc
when i logout of the admin and log back in these additional images are their in the adminside of IH2 but just not being displayed on the front end.

I think it comes that way since it is supposed to work with all 3 sizes. not sure if removing any codes will damage the flow of how it works.
maybe someone with better code knowledge can or will come in and say something.

That's not the point.
User was asking if another process, like apache, could take ownership once you chown with appropriate perms.
The answer is no way.
Regarding your brilliant discovery that another user can chown again.
Yes, obvious, it has to be a live user with admin rights.
Way off the mark, buddy.
I'll give an F for server administration.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Dude,
Read the post... I WAS the user asking for guidance on user/group ownership. I'll be the first to admit my server admin "grade" is under par, I just started managing my own server all of 2 weeks ago. You just gave incorrect advice, AFTER I had already discovered the problem on my own (read my post). That's just it though, I think you read the first 3 words of a post, then you jump on your pedestal and give irrelevant advice, or make some backhanded remark like a little child. Go back to bed kiddo, grumpy little boys need their naps.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
For the benefit of users of IH2, let me clarify this once and for all.
THERE IS NO NEED TO CHOWN TO INSTALL IH2.
It is ridiculous to suggest this solution since all the folders under www, htdocs or whatever the Apache configuration uses, belong to the user.
If they don't, there is a server misconfiguration.
User has admitted that he has no experience configuring Apache, so there is nothing more to discuss.
This has nothing to do with installing IH2, so don't follow misleading "advice".
If you ever see that folders that should belong to you, are owned by somebody else, even "apache", complaints should be directed to the webhost, although I strongly doubt that a professional webhost would ever make such a gross mistake.
Permissions for images folders and bmz_cache should match and be writable. This has been clarified in the readme, in breakmyzencart.com and thousands of times in this thread.
End of the show.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
omg man, you've gotta be the most dense individual on the planet. I didn't recommend ANYONE do this for a default install. It was simply what worked in my case. AND YES, the changing the ownership of the folders and files was required in this instance. This is because SOMEHOW (not blaming this module you moron), these bmz_cache folder and images folder were being owned by apache, in the apace group. As far as the host goes, it's media temple, one of the most reputable and well known hosts out there.
Lastly, the problem likely doesn't occur on "most" installations of this mod (or any other for that matter) because if you are using a shared server, the server username that is being used has likely been added to the "apache" group, which creates added vulnerability, as this gives another opportunity to obtain root access for anyone trying to do so.
Since you can't/don't seem to read/comprehend anything I've said, I'm done with this. I never bashed or even complained about IH2, I simply said how dissatisfied I was with the way you act on this thread, the inaccurate advice and the way you treat some users requesting assistance. The way you've reacted to my posts just serves to prove my point. Have a terrific Friday, and again, go take a nappy-poo.

Hi
Your old shared server was set up so that PHP runs under the web user name by either using Fastcgi or suPHP. This is a very secure setup and it prevents a compromised account on the server affecting other accounts.
Your new virtual server is set up with a default setup where PHP runs as the webserver user which would be something like "apache" "nobody" or "www-data" depending on the OS flavour.
Your choices are:
1. Since you are on a virtual server, you don't have to worry about other accounts and can just chmod the files/folders that need write access to 666/777.
2. Configure PHP to run Fastcgi or Mod_suPHP. You might need to hire a server admin to do this for you since you say you don't have much experience in with this. These do use a bit more resources but you will be more secure. If you use a control panel such as Plesk or Cpanel, you should be able to do this there. You can then set all files/folders to 644/755 (the config files will need to be 444 to avoid warnings about writable files). You will also need the chown all files/folders to your your ftp usename and group.
To be honest, Option 1 is probably good enough on a standalone server as anyone able to hack zencart on your domain for instance, would have the same level of access in both scenarios through PHP. 644 & 755 permissions would deter other scripting languages but most hackers do their damage in PHP and you could switch off perl and python on your domain in any case since you are most likely only running php there which would take care of those.
In summary, recursively chown everything to your user and leave them with the world readable permissions except if you are a bit paranoid in which case switch Fastcgi or suPHP on in your control panel.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Dayo,
Wow. See, that's a great, polite, and informative answer. Thank you very much. I'm pretty sure I can handle all of the above myself, and I really appreciate you explaining the security level of all configurations you suggested.

Thanks.
The person had a problem and I posted some options for him to consider. He seemed to be fine after that and that was that.
Why do you have a problem with that?
There is no call for such rudeness. You should be ashamed of yourself particularly given your role elsewhere and you are doing that endeavour quite a bit of harm with your poor behaviour here.
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
at first I thought maybe the main image was a .jpg with the additional ones either a .png or .gif ---I found that if you start with a gif the additional ones need to be a gif too.
but they seem to be .jpgs too which leads me to think maybe the size restrictions you added are possibly too large for the space you have.
play with the percentage and instead of 60% try 33% or something like that just to check out the theory
or remove your restrictions to see if it behaves properly and try to do the sdjustment in store admin/configuration/images for both the regular image sizes and the ih2 section.

Salam aleykum.
Where is the rudeness?
I gave the person a correct answer: there is no way a process can hijack the ownership once it is chowned (that was his original question), and told him that this is unrelated to IH2.
There is no problem with helping him with server configuration, this is just not the right place, if I were a moderator here I would have just moved the post to the right spot, leaving behind a shadow topic.
You have to understand that I am very well aware of roles, my role here is (or was) to help people with IH2, but not to the extent where their questions are unrelated or have already been answered.
My role elsewhere is clearly delineated in certain common sense rules that I just enforce, without letting any personal bias or animosity interfere.
I don't see how one can affect the other.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
No one ever answered my question. :( I'll try again. If you go to www.midsouthcoin.com/midsouthcoin store and click on say small cents category on the left...then click of one of the items, and then click on the large image.....the background gets messed if if you scroll down. Can some look and give me advice on the...click on the large image and scroll up and down on the page with your mouse wheel? Thanks.

did it behave immediately after you did IH2?
sorry with the drama going on I did not see your post...hope it will stop.
did you install slimbox first then IH2 or the other way around. Did they behave right when you installed them?
what theme are you using -- sometimes it may have to do with it. if slimbox overwrote one of the files.
I use lightbox not slimbox and so far mine is behaving with both ih2 and lightbox installed.

Though this is covered in the readme, I want to make sure it's clear for others reading this thread.. It's not just GIFs.. You cannot have mixed file types at all for your product images.ALL of your product images must be the same file type.. If your main product image is a JPG then the additional images must be JPGs too.. If the main image is a PNG, then the additional images must be PNGs.. IH2 will not error out or stop you from uploading mixed file types. The additional images will simply just not display..

Thanks for your help guys - the images are all definately jpegs

I tried playing with the percentages but the images are still short and fat in IE (except once I double click the images they return to normal proportions!?).
Once I removed the restrictions from the style sheet the images started to display in Google Chrome

Yep looks like it.
The only problem with removing the restrictions and altering the image sizes in admin is that it also makes the 'products also purchased sizes' the same size which is way too small - which is the reason I put the restrictions in the style sheet.
Any ideas on how I can get the additional images smaller without affecting the products also purchased size?
Many Thanks

Honestly no:no:.. Plus, the answer to this question is off-topic for this particular support thread, as it is really not an IH2 issue..

I'm using Fual Lightbox with IH2 and have had no problems EVER using these two together.. I'm fairly certain the issue has everything to do with something being wrong with your Fual install..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I played around with the code and fixed it. Trial and error. Set the height at 100%. Just another question though...i know there is a maximum image size....do you know what file would control the MINIMUM image size if there is one? Would like all the images to come up the same size. Thanks.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi Zenners,
I have been noticing recently that when viewing whos online through admin i have been noticing weird links (inparticular when visited by yahoo bot) such as:
/bmz_cache/amazing-cover-letter-creator-torrent.html
This is just one that i saw recently there have been others
Now i know that bmz_cache is part of image handler and whenever i click on the links i get 404 page not found and there is nothing in the bmz cache folder relating to any html documents.
I also only started to see these weird links when i installed simple SEO.
Anyone have any idea of what this could be?

bmz_cache is for the images cache to help load the pages quicker and is where the images info is stored for easier editing of the images too.
go to the server and check the actual folder...see if there is any html files in there and download and remove them.
look at them in a text editor Notepad++ is great to do this with and see what its contents are.
Have you done your security updates for the cart?
post what the files have to say too, if there are any. Also jot down the ip addresses I just checked mine and there are several spider bots and google bots in there proweling...lol however all the clickable links are for my store products and not another spot...maybe a screen shot of the page too.

ty for the screenshot, I forget they don't get larger around here when attached but no matter.
In the bmz_cache folder there should only be more folders with each containing image files...either a mixture of .gif, .png and .jpg or all .jpg if you only use that type.
having php files in the image files is something to look into. what names do they have, download and remove them for any php in image file folders may mean a possible hack attempt, that is how they like to hide their hijacking files or their files to gather info that they do not need.
post name of file and using the # button in the posting window show us what the content is to really be able to determine whether you need to worry.
as I said image folder with .php files or .img files where there are only supposed to be .php files is a concern unless you yourself put them there.
