Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Here is the statistics from the completed task:
Froogle Data Feeder v.1.3.3 07.02.2007 20:45 started 2007/03/20 20:03:58
Feed file - DELETED FOR SECURITY REASON
Processing: Feed - Yes, Upload - No
Froogle File Complete In 123.431367 Seconds 10043 Records
As you can see it took 123.43 seconds to generate the file. If I would have set my limit to less than 124 this wouldn't have worked.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
I have just tried this on a testing machine and I am getting the wrong prices in my feed file.
I am getting my price including tax with tax added to it again. If I view my product in the product/catalogue admin and resubmit it to the site with no changes to the price I get the right price back again.
I cannot do this for 1000+ product though. Any one else had this issue?
thanks

It appears I'm not understanding the process of rendering large images with IH2.
I have latest version of IH2 and v.133 version of Andrew's mod installed on ZC 1.37. And in my feed the image_link urls's for each of my products correctly refers to my large images in /images
My large images don't appear to be generated on the fly. I must ask why would they need to be "generated" since the images are the original large images uploaded to the server. On my product_info _display page when I open the large image pop-up and click properties and check the path it shows the image resides in /images.
Are you using IH2 watermark/overlay function or employing Zen Lightbox and that may requires a re-rendering of the large image?
Just trying to gain a better understanding of the process here. Thanks for your quality feedback.

Well, you enlightened me Woody! I have always used watermark on our large image for two reasons: 1. for those stealing our images without paying attention they help us by advertising our website and two to burn our url into our customers mind when they are viewing the large image :)
As result, our large image is generated on the fly and stored in bmz_cache. Of course I have always thought this how IH2 works not knowing it works that way because of my selection to watermark large image.
I temporarily removed watermark and now my large images are also referenced as url/image/filename. The funny thing is some of my products still is referencing the bmz_cache images when using googlefroogle and some are accurately reflecting url/images/filename. I wonder if I need to clear cache before regenerating googlefroogle to make sure it's still not behaving as though I have watermark on large images.
It really doesn't make sense how the Large image works because I have always thought that IH compresses and resize the large images as well. For example I upload very high quality image (sometimes 1200 x 800) to my image folder but my setting for large image on Zen Cart admin side is 600 X 400. If I know that IH2 is simply going to display my large image of 1200 x 800 there is no point uploading such a huge file to the server. I could have simply processed all images to be 600 X 400, compress it and upload it.
I am afraid I will leave the images alone for now because I do not have the time to reprocess 20,000 images.
Thanks for clearing this up.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Woody,
I don't know how to explain what's happening technically but I will just tell you what happened :D
After I change my setting in Admin to remove watermark I ran GoogleFroogle and it didn't complete the process, generated 1MB worth of data. Ran it the 2nd time and it generated 3MB, Ran it the 3rd time it generated 8.01MB which is all the products but the process did not finish. Ran it the 4th time and it generated 8.01MB but this time it finished and displayed all the statistics associated with generating the file.
It's almost like each time it didn't finish, it was able to use certain information from previous session. I still have a feeling it's something to do with generating the image url. If the script is generating images based on whether it's image/large or bmz_cache folder that's some data crunching especially when you have over 10,000 plus products (in my case).
I suppose I could have increased my max_execution_time and it would have ran fine the first time.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
After disabling watermarks, did you manually clear the bmz_cache before generating the feed?
(just for testing purposes as you still want the watermarks after you get this resolved).

Nope I did not clear it but googlefroogle works fine in either case as long as the max_execution_time is enough so I am cool! I just found another mod that needed the max_execution_time set to 300 or unlimited.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
I'm attempting to install the feeder.
But when I run the updates via Zen Cart admin or Phpadmin I get a mysql error that a dublicate field exist, or a whole series of errors.
This is version 1.3.7
Any ideas?

Without seeing at least a few of the errors hard to tell. But likely you have a prefix on your database tables. There is already much in this thread (and other mod threads) about this subject and possible workarounds.

Good to hear you have found a solution to your timeouts and thanks for sharing. Can you report if you're using Andrew's latest mod version, which still includes label and currency fields in the generated feed and which are no longer "supported" by Google? And if so was your feed upload accepted and published by Google? And did you do bulk upload via GoogleBase web interface or did you FTP?
With the number of products you have what is the size of your feed?
Or did you manipulate Andrew's code to remove label and currency attributes?

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
So am I to assume everyone using the FroogleGoogle mod is doing the uploads manually or via the website? My file is generated fine, but I had to manually upload it to have it even register.

FTP works for me. Both manual FTP and FTP via cron job.

I am using Andrew's version 1.3.3 NOT 1.3.3a available in the download section by another author.
The Label and Currency are included in my generated file but that doesn't throw an error on Google side because neither of the above fields are part of the required fields. Google is more concern that the following required fields are present:
brand
condition
description
expiration_date
id
image_link
link
price
product_type
title
Because by default, our product type is other we bypass the requirement for other Product_Type specific requirements.
Our product feed was accepted and published when manually or automatically uploaded to Google.
The size of our file is 8.01MB fro ~10,000 products.
No manipulation has been done to Andrew's mod at this time. The only thing I temporarily turned off is Watermark for images which was making GoogleFroogle mod to generate new large image on the fly.
If there is anything else you'd like me to answer please let me know.
Isaac.

FTP through Zen Cart Admin, Cron and Web upload through Google interface all works fine for me and the feed is accepted and published.

Appreciate the detailed info. Certain to help others analyze feed issues.
I've had similar results except I don't have near that many products and was not seeing the IH2 water mark issues and timeout issues as you previously reported.
And good to know about the product_type exception. I did not know that assigning "other" for the product_type allowed for exceptions.
I've been treading through some recent GoogleBase docs and Google highly recommends five additional attributes over and beyond the old base Froogle feed and also have repeatedly reports that label and currency attributes are no longer "supported". But as both you and I have observed and reported Google appears to be continuing to accept/publish old-style froogle feeds and are not rejecting feeds containing the two now unsupported attributes and not including five extra recommended attributes. I am glad to see that as we were previously under the assumption that Google might start rejecting old froogle feed schema which would then cause Andrew's mod to be no longer useful, (unless some code edits were implemented).
BTW the only difference in the 1.33a version in the downloads area from Andrew's last version (1.33) is in the 133 updater SQL patch. The 1.33a uploaders intent was to repair an issue with the 1.33 version. But I found the updater SQL in 1.33a is problematic in itself.
It would be good if folks "fixing" mods developed by 'real developers' would allow others to test their code fixes/edits, before uploading to the downloads area. Q&A does not necessarily mean questions and answers.

I'm using the 1.3.3a version. It's strange, I can use the file from the addon and manually upload, yet the cron job version seems not to work for me. At least when I check the latest upload it's the manual version. Hrm wonder whats up.

Thanks Woody for the response. We are taking the approach that we will not chase every thing Google says (because Google talks too much :)) until it becomes necessary to change.
However, in light of our dialogue on this forum, I have disable the currency attribute on the Admin side. That reduced the size file a little bit as well. I am sure Google is going to be annoucing more changes with GoogleFroogle and hopefully, someone will pick off where Andrew left off to keep this great mod updated.

Did you install 1.33a fresh or update over a previous GoogleFroogle mod version?
Test if you can manually FTP your feed from a FTP client either on your PC via a FTP client hosted on your server (not a web based upload).
Note the cron job doesn't actually FTP. It just pings Google to come and get it. After the ping, the come and get it part can take awhile.

This is prudent ;-)
I noted in the GoogleBase Blog a developer reported recently that another significant feed schema change would be announced/introduced shortly. I'm awaiting to hear details.

In version 1.33 I don't see method of disabling currency in admin. I see a "default currency" dropdown with five choices but one must be chosen. Did you hack the code? Or did I miss a SQL patch somewhere along the way?
And whatever you did to "disable the currency attribute on the admin side" did that also remove the currency type attribute in the "link" URL parameters. e.g.
Code:
http://www.domain.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=12¤cy=USD 50.00
I'm thinking the price also does not need to be in the link URL?
I will take a stab and removing label attribute outpout from the feed generator code. Will test it out and the post if successful. Should be fairly straight forward, even for a non-coder type like me.
Yes an XML based RSS2/GoogleBase feed generator for Zen Cart with ability to define your own attributes would be a very cool thing.

Doh!. I missed seeing the admin config etnry just above "Default Currency" . And I just set to false and answered my question. Set to false removes both the price and the currency from the link URL as well as removes the "currency" attribute field from the feed.
Thanks for the tip.
I also observe the product "brand" attribute is empty throughout the feed.
On one of my sites I'm using the Short Description mod for an "author" field. Thinking I will map that product field to the brand attribute for froogle feed output. And add a switch in admin to disable.
Or I could map the ZC product manufacturer field to the brand attribute in feed. That probably makes more sense, but not for the shop I'm working on at the moment ;-)
Note you can use the Short Description field for any type of product descriptor (e.g. author, publisher, etc).
Regards to the ID field in the feed I was considering mapping it tothe Zen Cart product model number. But ID value has to be distinct in the feed and some shopowners apply same model number to different products (as they use zen cart product attributes do the differentiating). Thus assigning model number to ID field is not a good idea. Will let it remain mapped to product_id.

I wasn't thinking straight when I wrote the above. Forgive me. That point applied to old googleFroogle feeder version.
What does the cron job report you receive in email say?
The feed uploaded via FTP is not promptly processed/published by Google. Did you give it a day or two then check?

when you say "they come and get it" surely it just toses up a URL for them to grab it from, correct?

Very strange, I can see the files in /feeds on my server. I can manually FTP it. I can upload via the web page. I see the output in my cronjobs in my log files - but the googlebase uploads list never shows the bulk updates.
Will keep on troubleshooting.

Ecobunz: Just curious, is there ANY chance that your website is set up with/without "www" in front of it, and you set up google/froogle the OPPOSITE way?
This happened to me with the sitemaps, and once I figured that out, I got it all working.
I had set up a site in sitemaps as "www.mysite.com", but my installation of Zen Cart was "mysite.com". I THINK I had a similar problem with Froogle. I changed them all to match my site, and voila, they worked.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
As I said in PM, you're seeing those PHP notices because I (temporarily) turned on error reporting in your googlefroogle.php file to see if there was any infomation that would help with the timeout problem you said you were having. Error reporting is turned off now, and your googlefroogle.php file returned to its original state, so you won't see those anymore.
In case it might help anyone else, I'll describe briefly what appears to be happening. This is pretty well what I've already said to you via PM.
The problem you appear to have is not a timeout (the mod does loop through all the records in your database and reports the correct number), rather that only the first batch of records processed by the mod (c. 177 in your case) is written to the feed file.
After the first batch (in $output_buffer) is written to the feed file, $retval appears to become NULL in the function zen_froogle_fwrite() and further batches are not written. Each further attempt to write the contents of $output_buffer to the feed file appears to result in an 'undefined variable' notice
If you count the number of 'undefined variable' notices that appear (after you've run the feed generation) and multiply them by the size of the first batch written (c. 177 records) it comes out pretty near to the number of records in your database.
I tried this on a shop of mine where the feed does complete successfully (ie. all records are processed and written), and (with error reporting turned on) the same PHP notices appeared, so the appearance of the warning notices doesn't seem directly related to whether all the batches of records are written or not.
Searching on php.net, it appears there is/was a bug in PHP 4.3.2 that can result in the returned variable from a function becoming (or being reported as) NULL after the first iteration, although it appears that this doesn't always affect the output of the variable - ie. sometimes the variable still functions, but sometimes it doesn't - put another way, it appears the behaviour can be unpredictable.
It's not clear from the bug report(s) whether this bug has been fixed in PHP 4.x.x or only in PHP 5.x.x.
http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=22836%22
But whether this is the cause of your problem or not I don't know - perhaps someone else can chip in with their knowledge/experiences.
Did you try installing a stock zen demo shop in a subdirectory on your server with just the Froogle mod installed as I suggested? If the Froogle mod runs and completes all records on a stock zen demo shop, you will know it's not your server setup.
Then load a *copy* of your live database into the stock zen demo shop and try running the Froogle mod again - does it complete all records? - if it does, then you know it's possibly another mod you have installed on your (live) shop (or a difference in admin settings perhaps) that's causing the problem.
If it doesn't complete all records, then it's possibly something in your live database that's causing the problem.
In any case, it should help you to narrow things down a bit.
As I said in PM, please make sure you change your passwords on cpanel, FTP and your admin now so you can be sure I no longer have access - this is for my security too. :smile:
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Just a small clarification to the last part of my post above.
When I said '... completes all records ...' I mean check that the number of records actually written to the feed file matches the number of active products in the shop.
In your case, the mod will *report* it's processed all records, and will show the correct number, but you will need to actually look in the feed file and see how many it's actually written to know if it's worked correctly or not.

I reset admin>store manager>Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID
I managed to process a feed that is 13.02 MB but now I get this error in the feed window:
Quote:

I already have the following set in admin> config > my store

Ok. If you haven't changed your passwords yet, I'll go back in and add a line of code to your googlefroogle.php file to see if we can get over that.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
I've just taken another look in your admin, and I'm not getting a timeout when I try to generate a feed - instead the pop-up window is collapsing after about 58 seconds with no errors showing - even with error reporting turned on.
When the feed file generates, I'm getting 7357 records (approx. 11Mb).
Have you made any changes to your database or shop since you got that timeout message yesterday?
Have you used easy populate since then?
Can you backup your database and then run the admin>store manager>Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID again, and then (on the same page) the 'update all products price sorter'. I'll take another look when I get back in a couple of hours.
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
I've been following the latest conversation and have manage d to weed out a fix for my problem, which was the *.txt file only showing the first 12 records.
First I tried to merely reset the "Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID" but that didn't work.
Then i played a bit more and:
1) I uninstalled and reinstalled the sql from 1.33
2) I reuploaded the entire 1.33 package (downgrade from 1.33a, which shouldn't have been different--I"ve only done this 100 times in the last month!)
3) Under ADMIN>Tool>Store Manager, I reset ALL Products master category id (nothing changed, still only 12 products) so I updated the All Products' Attribute Sort Orders and then Updated ALL Products Price Sorter and then reset ALL Products master category id again (all under store manager).
4) manually ran googlefroogle feed from within the admin panel and uploaded to google. No timeouts and all products were shown. Google accepted the feed with no errors, making all products active.
My Cron job ran at the 2 a.m. and was also successful in uploading.
I've created the feed no less than 100 times last night and this morning and it has contained all products ever time!
Now on to integrating google checkout!

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Just wondering if anyone else has this issue. I have an email from Google, saying my product_type left as other has meant my feed has been disapproved until i put it to something more appropriate.
At present, everything can simply be changed, to glassware, but as the shop grows the number of categories will expand. I have found this problematic in the past, mapping large databases to affiliate feeds.
Here is a snip from the email:
Quote:
Irrelevant product type: We noticed that some of the product_type values
you included are not relevant to your items. For example, for your item
titled "Crystal White Wine Glass," you included "other" as the
product_type. A more relevant product_type value for that item would be
"glassware."
Including irrelevant information may cause your products to be
miscategorised and adversely affect your items' placement. For a list of
examples product_type values, please visit

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Now when I get the feed to generate, it collapses on me. It stops at about 1 mb. Any suggestions?
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Now the feed file is 4 mb.
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
I just noticed that I'm having a problem with the Google Froogle feed.
I HAD a "Salemaker" sale, that ended 4/15. However, the froogle feeder is STILL sending the SALE price to the TXT file.
I even DELETED all of the "Sales" I had set up, but it's still sending the sale price.
Has anybody seen this and/or fixed it? Or does anyone have a cure for it?
I also checked to be sure I don't have "specials" on the items, and don't.
Thanks.

OK, I did a little digging, and it looks like the Froogle Feeder is using 'products_price_sorter' for the data, and in my 'products' file, many of my products SALE price is in there...
how do I clean that up? What is that field for?
Thanks!

SOLVED! FYI, somehow, during setup, ZenCart must have used a different currency conversion...??? I deleted all that we don't use (Euros, GB lbs, etc) and ran the 'update products price sorter' in store manager, and that fixed them all.
Anybody know what can cause those prices to be wrong? We have never KNOWINGLY used anything but USD...

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Hi,
I ran your sql code but received the following error. What went wrong? Please advise. Thanks.
1146 Table 'dealbyet_zc2.configuration_group' doesn't exist
in:
[SELECT @configuration_group_id:=configuration_group_id FROM configuration_group WHERE configuration_group_title= 'Google Froogle Configuration' LIMIT 1;]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.

Just make sure you upload all the new files correctly, and use this SQL code (I wonder if someone could change it in the download section?)
Code:
DELETE FROM configuration WHERE configuration_key='GOOGLE_FROOGLE_MANUFACTURER';
DELETE FROM configuration WHERE configuration_key='GOOGLE_FROOGLE_PRODUCT_TYPE_SHOW';
UPDATE configuration SET configuration_description='Choose your product type' WHERE configuration_key='GOOGLE_FROOGLE_PRODUCT_TYPE';

SELECT @configuration_group_id:=configuration_group_id FROM configuration_group WHERE configuration_group_title= 'Google Froogle Configuration' LIMIT 1;
INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_id, configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, date_added, use_function, set_function) VALUES (NULL, 'Condition', 'GOOGLE_FROOGLE_CONDITION', 'new', 'Choose your Product\'s Condition', @configuration_group_id, 12, NOW(), NULL, 'zen_cfg_select_option(array(\'new\', \'used\', \'refurbished\'),');

Note your TABLE Names have a prefix:
dealbyet_zc2.configuration_group'
Prefix is:
dealbyet_zc2
You can edit the SQL to append your prefix (wherever a TABLE name is observed).
But if you copy the existing SQL from a text editor and then paste into Tools >Install SQL patches it should work, without first editing SQL. But do NOT upload. (Install SQL Patches is suppose to auto append you DB table prefix but some issues with different server configurations).
Much previous discussion about this common issue in this thread (and same discussion in Google Sitemap and User Tracking support threads in this forum).
Good luck,

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Woody,
Google have started rejecting my feed due to now unsupported field "label" and also they are not allowing the product type to be called "other". I've had a look at the feed and the easiest way to fix is to rename the label field and call it product_type. Have you already done this or should I get hacking code?

Andrew is of course correct. I'm not dyslexic but the mind was somehow registering the underscore (_) and period (.) in reverse. My apologies.
What is the name of the SQL file you are attempting to patch with and what version of the GoogleFroogle mod?
It appears the SQL patch you may be running is a version updater and not the full SQL patch.
Did you have this mod (or a previous version) installed previously and are trying to upgrade? Or is this suppose to be a fresh install?
Try running googlefroogle.sql (this is the patch for new installs as described in the readme). Then no need to run the other sql patches

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Hi
I installed the Froogle module from the download page (ZenCart version v1.3.7, Mod version 1.33a). The name of the sql file I attempted to run is googlefroogle.sql and I didn't run other sql files. I was not trying to upgrade Froogle. It was meant to be a fresh install. For your information, my previous Froogle was working well when I was using ZenCart v1.2.6d. I upgraded to ZenCart v1.3.7 recently but didn't delete the old files of Froogle as I don't know which files.

Well it can't be a fresh install if it was previously installed and you did not completely uninstall it. That could well be the source of your issues.
Which version of GoogleFroogle did you have originally installed? Do you have the old zip file for that version? If you open the zip archive you will see which files. Then you can delete all those files from the server and then reinstall (upload) files from the new mod. Then run googlefroogle.sql from 1.33a version
Or you can just try running uninstall.sql (from the 1.33s mod package)
then run googlefroogle.sql again.
My fineprint: As always backup your database first. And I recommend not installing or upgrading and mods on a live production server. Best to test on a test installation first.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Hi,
I just found out that there aren't any Froogle files that are from previous version. However, I could see the previous Froogle in the admin. I am not sure what version of Froogle I have installed previously...It worked in ZenCart v1.2.6d. I don't have the old zip file. Therefore it is difficult to figure out which files need to be deleted.

You're confusing us.
First you say:

Then you say:

So without having a list of files that were originally installed, how do you know "there aren't any Froogle files that are from previous version" still installed.
And when you say:

What exactly do you mean? Are you saying you see Froogle files in the "admin" directory? Or are you saying when you are logged in as admin, and viewing the admin interface, you are seeing GoogleFroogle menus under both the Configuration and the Tools menus? And how do you know it is the previous version?
Did you follow-up on previous recommend to run uninstall.sql then run googlefroogle.sql ??
Backup your DB, then do this and report back.

Froogle is no longer. Is now Google Product Search.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Hi,
Thanks for your information. Does that mean there is no point getting froogle module to work? Will there be Google Product Search module for us to install?

The mod still works. This mod generates the feed into GoogleBase. That is the back-end if you will. Then the GoogleBase data is what feeds the Froogle front-end. That is what is now referred to as Google Product Search. Just the term Froogle is no longer.
But keep in mind that if GoogleBase changes their mandatory feed requirements, and the feed created by this mod is not adapted, then this mod could become deprecated. But the good thing is that it is not difficult to adapt the mod to add or remove product fields. Just takes some time.

[FONT=Arial]The Google Froogle Feeder installs fine and uploads properly. However, I am having the following issue with Google accepting the feed after they manually review it:[/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial]Issues:[/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial]1. Wrong prices (I change my prices every week but have the script running a daily cron job)[/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial]2. Irrelevant product type (All of my products are labelled as "OTHER". Do I need to set product types in Zen Cart other than "GENERAL")[/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial]3. Unsupported "label" attribute (Google said this will not cause the feed to stop working but should be removed anyways.)[/FONT]
[FONT=Arial][/FONT]
[FONT=Arial]Please advise as to how I can solve the first two issues and possibly the third to avoid any future problems.[/FONT]

This member seems to have an idea of how to overcome the product types issue. If someone can implement this, please upload it right away :smile: .
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
ditto :)
The product type problem is definitely an issue.
Anyone with a hack?
The best solution would be to be able to set the field in the admin as either a category is set up, or by product.
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
The hack is easy, I just forgot to post sorry.
Open up the file googlefroogle.php in thr ROOT folder of your website.
Search for the following and un-comment them as the are no longer supported by Google Products as it's now called and not needed either.
Find
$output["label"] = "product_type";
$output["product_type"] = "product_type";
Replace with
// $output["label"] = "product_type";
// $output["product_type"] = "product_type";
They are around lines 110-111 I think.
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Do you mean:
$output["label"] = "label";
$output["product_type"] = "product_type";
???
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
lol Yes, sorry I used the code from where I was testing, but google want you to use their wordings for the product type which is not possibly or feasible unless you re-organise your own database category names etc.. I'm not at my home machine at the moment so was pasting code from my test file
replace
$output["label"] = "label";
$output["product_type"] = "product_type";
with
// $output["label"] = "label";
// $output["product_type"] = "product_type";
Works fine, my feed got accepted quickly afterwards.

From a previous post :

dealbyet_zc2.configuration_group
That may indicate you used "dealbyet_" as your table prefix. Look in phpmyadmin to see the names of your tables. They should all have the same prefix.
See post in this other mod thread for a similar discussion.

So Google accepts the file without having a product type at all?
Thanks, for the fix, I hope you update the downloads section to avoid a lot of other people running into the same problem.

Hmmm... I wasn't aware of that. I understood product_type had to be in the feed. However when your feed is reviewed and if you have specified 'other' without any good reason (e.g. if your products did not fit in a specific category) then you might get rejected.
You can easily edit the DB to support different product types.
The last version of the mod supports:
'book'
'music'
'video'
'other'
Add your own if you like.

Currently there is no maintainer of this mod as it is no longer under development by the previous developer. If you have the skills please do update (best to have other folks beta test any updates BEFORE uploading new version).

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Please excuse my interuption but I need a little push in the right direction with this tool.
I am running Zen 1.3.7 and unzipped this utility into the root of my store.
I then opened up the SQL file, copied the script, pasted it into admin/tools/install sql patches and ran the script successfully.
I see the Google Froogle Configuration but do not see Google Froogle Feeder under admin/tools.
Please tell me what step I missed.

Woody, do I just add them to the DB then?
That simple????

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
I did this by going into mySQL and adding another field. You can select the product type from the admin but you're still limited to one product type for your entire feed. You can't select by product or category. If you need to do that, you'll have to edit your feed file after it's generated.
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Got it,
thanks, in the configuration table.
You can add as many to the array as you like, but as you say, only one per feed :)
Manually editing mine.
Just not up to programming it myself.

If you want individual control over each product type entry for each product this is something that cannot be programmed into the mod. The programming has to occur in Zen Cart core as there is no standard product field in Zen Cart which supports different "product type" for each and every product
However the Zen Cart top-level category could be mapped to the feed product_type field. But then you would need to be certain your Zen Cart category names are exactly what you want in the feed product_type.And it gets tricky when you have many different levels of subcategories.
Or you can 'cheat' and employ the Short Description mod and use that filed as your "product_type and then in the mod itself update the code to read the short description data and that to the feed product_type.
Hoping future Zen Cart updates will support greater product_type flexibility, allowing shop-owners the ability to easily create their own custom product fields via the admin GUI.

Do you happen to have the Admin Profiles mod installed? If yes, then see the readme for that mod.
If not, run the uninstall.sql sql patch for the GoogleFroogle mod, then run the googlefroogle.sql patch. If you observe any errors record them and post here (obfuscating any private info including your admin directory name, etc).

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
First, thank you very much for responding. I understand how important this tool is to the success of E-commerce sites. I have used a similar tool with a high-dollar cart to generate huge amount of traffic and sales with the sites I manage at my day job.
I do not have the Admin Profiles mod installed.
I ran the uninstall.sql patch. The return showed 4 statements processed in the green bar at the top of the page. No errors noted.
I then ran the googlefroogle.sql patch again. The return showed 8 statements processed in the green bar at the top of the page. No errors noted.
I then checked, no Google Froogle Feeder showing in admin/tools.
I then ran the uninstall.sql patch again.
I again downloaded from Zen Cart the mod and unzipped it into the root directory of my cart. I uploaded from my local drive to make sure the files were in the root directory of my store.
Still, I see the configuration portion but not the Google Froogle Feeder link in admin/tools.
I am questioning if I have the files downloaded into the correct directory. When I say root I mean the googlefroogle files were unzipped into http://www.mystore.com/ The way I am using Zen Cart is for my entite site. Therefore, the admin files are located at http://www.mystore.com/admin/ and the include directory is at http://www.mystore.com/includes/.
Do I have the files unzipped to the correct spot?
Any other suggestions as to how to fix the problem?

This is possibly due to a problem with Zen Cart Tools > Install SQL Patches not applying the correct table prefix. Many people have similar issues with many different mods, especially when "uploading" the patch code.
Quote:

1. Avoid announcing real "admin" directory names in public. Best to change the "admin" directory name to something else as is explained in Zen Cart security docs.
2. It looks fine what you are doing in regards to directory structure.
googlefroogle.php mod file will go directly into your 'webroot' (which in your instance is the same as your 'shoproot'). Then the other mod files into three subdirectories off of your webroot.
3. Try patching with uninstall.sql again. Then open the googlefroogle.sql in a text editor and copy and then paste into Install SQL Patches, but do NOT upload. See if that makes a difference.
If not, then patch with uninstall.sql again. Then use phpmyadmin to patch. First make note of your shop DB table prefix, and edit the googlecheckout.sql with your table prefix.
By default, during installation, the prefix is set to "zen_", but some shopowners (like me) change the prefix at installation (or do away with the prefix).
There is a recent explanation how to edit mod SQL patch to deal with the table prefix issue in the "Tabbed Products Lite" mod thread (no need to edit each and every SQL statement with the table prefix).

I wonder if removing the shipping field will work. I keep getting errors that my shipping has errors and I have it setup just like they say to.
I'll have to try that.
Thanks!!!
JP
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Yep, removing the shipping field worked, but I did have a problem.
Using notepad ++ I took out the shipping header then I copied the contents of the shipping field and did a find and replace with nothing in the replace field.
The only problem was that I forgot to include the field separator in the find and replace.
So after I uploaded it and saw the error that I had more fields than headers, I had to go back in and do a find for two separators, I just clicked on view, show all items, and then copied the two separators where shipping used to be. Then I did a find with those two separators and replaced with one.
Now it worked and I got my 206 products waiting to be searchable.

Just like the mod is packaged ;-)
Webroot (e.g. /public_html/)
|
|-> googlefroogle.php <- upload file
|-> /includes/ <- upload files to /includes
|-> /admin/ <- upload files to /admin
|-> /feed/ <-upload dir & set perms
But this has nothing to do with the admin menu problem. That is an SQL issue.

Also I have edited my feed file before uploading and included custom product_types not on listed the URL's above, and Google accepted my feed.
I observe Google gives much better results when you do apply a specific relevant Product_Type for each product.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
I truly appreciate your patience. I usually am not this dense.
Following Woody's instructions I can now see the Google Froogle Feeder link in admin/tools.
I confirmed that the feed directory is in the root and has full permissions.
When I click the Google Froogle Feeder link a new window opens but nothing is displayed. They URL in the address bar is http://mystore.com/googlefroogle.php?feed=yes&upload=no. I manually close the window.
I check the feed directory and the original 2 files are all that are there but not the upload file.
I have set the parameters in the configuration file to match my Google Base Account. I also created a specific text file name for the feed output.
Any ideas on how to proceed?

1. What are the permissions on the feed file in the feed directory (not the perms on the directory itself)?
The Google Froogle page should appear in Zen Cart no matter the perms on fhe feed directory or file. Only when you attempt to generate the feed should permissions matter. And the GoogleFroogle mod will alert you to permissions issue.
2. I think you still have a SQL table prefix issue and even though you were able to get the google froogle menu item to appear in the Tools menu, the remaining entries in the SQL were not correctly written to the DB (where they need to go).
Look in the installer SQL file and check which entries were suppose to be inserted into which specific tables in your database. Then check to see if those entries were written to the correct DB table.
You may need to edit the SQL with proper prefix on each table entry in the SQL.
Best to run the uninstaller SQL again before proceeding with any SQL editing/patching.
After editing the SQL I recommend patching your DB via phpmyadmin.

Meaning that this is just a subset of product_types accepted and is not a definitive list.
Note "other" is not included on the list. But I have not had any issues with "other" in the product_type field (as others have reported).
Also I have edited my feed file before uploading and included custom product_types not on listed the URL's above, and Google accepted my feed.
I observe Google gives much better results when you do apply a specific relevant Product_Type for each product.

I am no coder so I don't know how or if this could be done.
But I came up with a idea at the moment this mod puts your stores Categories under "labels" on your feed, if this could coded to put it under "product_types" we only have to change our categories to the names of porduct types that googlebase excepts.

$output["label"] = "product_type";
// $output["product_type"] = "product_type";
Rename all cateogories (excluding sub-categories) to the Google product type.
Do you think that would work? It prints the labels/categories in the output file as the product_type.

That worked great Thanks.
Anyone else that did uses it remember to change
$output["label"] = "label";
To
// $output["label"] = "label";
To get rid of the label in the feed.
One more thing is there a way that I can get it so it only shows the top categores in the field i.e "Fragrance" and not "Fragrance, Men's Fragrance" or "Fragrance, Women's Fragrance"
If this could be done it would mean Froogle feeder is working again for me and I hope this helps others to.
I removed the Sub- categores manually and googlebase excepted it no problem.

Like I said, you don't need to rename your sub-categories because it only uses the main category... or at least that's what it did for mine...

Strange for me it is using Sub-Categories I don't supose you could et#ver put on here or email me a copy of your complete googlefroogle.php so I can try it on mine I know there has been lots of changes to this mod so may be its not the same.
I have been going through mine all day trying to find a way but with no luck.
Mind you I am no coder so its just try it and hope and it takes forever.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
Nevermind, you are right. Let's see if they still deny the feed...
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
It denyed mine if I left the sub-cats in but once I deleted them it was OK Just need to find away to do it on auto

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
I have submitted an updated Froogle contrib with the label header removed and product_types removed.
Also slighty tidyied up the code. I will get round to doing some more testing and see if Google accepts own product types
-
Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
NamSingh, it denies the feed if you leave out product_type completely... Have to make label = product_type and then tweak it from there.

@Nam
So you have tested thoroughly on your own and found that removing "label" and "product_types" fixed things for sure?
I see your only change was to googlefroogle.php
So you did not update the SQL patch to remove product_type from the admin UI? That would require updates to googlefroogle.sql, and creation of update_from_133.sql. So how are people suppose to upgrade without updated SQL? And shopowners installing for the first time will be given a useless entry in the admin UI.
If you are going to patch the code then please also update the SQL.
Or at least explain to people the ramifications of installing your updated version.
Also I could have easily missed your low key update announcement in this thread.
"Tidied up the code" and "cleaned up some documentation" is a bit vague and ambiguous.
Changing code unnecessarily makes it difficult to compare one version to the next to migrate custom code changes (via a compare/merge tool). Best to leave the code alone except where you are making functional improvements.
When announcing a new mod or mod update please post the name of the mod, the new version, where available in the downloads area (URL), a changelog, and the version of Zen Cart it is known to be compatible (tested) with. Something similar to how most other mod "developers" announce their mod updates.
Finally, I don't understand, why you did not have others TEST the updated contrib BEFORE submitting? That is suppose to be how it works. Then people don't get stuck downloading, installing and troubleshooting a module update that is problematic. Argh.
Thanks,
Woody

I think with Googlebase getting more picky about what it excepts, the only real way round this. (because zencart does not hold the info google base wants at the moment).
Would be to put a new field in Admin on the new product page named product type and a drop down list made up of what googlebase excepts http://www.google.com/base/product_types.html this data could then be stored and brought up by the googlebase/froogle mod.
I know this is probably hell of a job but at the moment the info googlebase wants is just not in Zencart and I am sure most of you like me get 90% of traffic from googlebase.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase
@ Woody
This is the first time I've made any updates/changes or got involved so have not been clear of the procedure. I think I will get the update removed as it is different for each country by the sounds of it.
I didn't remove priduct_type as it is still supported by Google, just not accepted with the data from zen cart. I was hoping to get it working quite soon after more testing.

I second this, and it wouldn't be that big of a job since you could basically cut and paste the google product types and put them into the product form. A drop down menu would be way too big. Even a blank input space that saves to the SQL database as product_type would be ideal and wouldn't take long to implement at all...
