Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I have this mod already installed on my live site but I have a new template I am playing with on my test site and I have uploaded it to that.
I went to install it in my admin area but when I click on Install Image Handler I get a blank page.
I have went back over the whole mod to be sure I installed everything and it looks like I have it all uploaded and in the right places.
Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks!

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Blank page = error..
Check the error logs in your cache folders.. Can't help unless you give us an indication as to what the error log says..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
:clap:Thanks very much dbltoe and DarkAngel. I feel so warm to get your quick response. I just did the installation and it seems to be working. Yeah, Hostgator does mess up the installion. I originally did it with quickinstall and that mess up some of the file. I did the install now with Fantastico and it seems working fine with IH2 working too. thanks guys!
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Glad you got it going BUT....
As far as I know, no one here approves of any installation method that is automated. As I tell our customers, "You can count the number of successful automated installs on the fingers of one foot!"

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I have installed image handler on www.cranbrookcycles.co.uk
everything works fine except for image hover over best sellers which is the best sellers reloaded mod. I dont know why can anyone give me some insight?

your memory/recollection and mine are the same sir..
remebero, I suggest you read up on how to use FTP for anymore installs updates to your Zen Cart site.. Fantastico and other "auto installers" are not reliable, miss required steps, and form all the mods I've downloaded and installed, I've yet to see ONE mod developer that has EVER included instructions for installing Zen Cart mods using these "auto installers"..

That's an OLD (and largely unsupported) version of IH2.. In Tim's original docs he does reference his old site (where these instructions on the small image sizes came from) Not even sure that version of IH2 works with Zen Cart v1.3.9.. (or are you REALLY running Zen Cart v 1.2.7????)
Going forward, it helps if you indicate the version of IH2 you are inquiring about when you post.. Looking at your site you seem to have the latest version of the image hover javascript.. so it's easy for folks who volunteer here to assume that you have the later IH2 version installed..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Okay I thought I got it to work but I was wrong. I was able to get it installed through the admin and then I clicked on Image Handler 2 and it goes back to the blank page.
This is the error I get

Glad it's resolved for you though Zen Lightbox has a completely different purpose than Image Handler..
Was gonna say that your error seems to indicate a faulty installation or corrupt mod files..

I have no idea. I downloaded the newest version and I still don't get why it wouldn't work for me.
I just realized that you can use both Zen Lightbox and IH 2 together. I would if I could lol

this is good for now but remember ANY automated uploader may malfuction and really mess things up. you should really learn how to upload the files manually to make sure that they are placed correctly and not altered in any way by the uploader program.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Sorry about that I posted before I was done typing. Damn doorbell does it everytime!
The images were not separating from one image to another. Another words the same image was showing up for the wrong product. Can't show ya though because I have started over.
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I'm using IH2
When I go to Tools > Image Handler and attempt to save an image to a product, it gives the following error msg:
Error!
Unable to determine the page link!
Function used:
zen_href_link('', '', 'NONSSL')
Any ideas?

when you do insert the images make sure they have the name of the product...like roses.jpg will overwrite the other roses.jpgs you have in already so call it yellowroses or house with redhouse for another house image
you get the idea
that way they all have unique names that won't get mixed up with another similar one.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
v1.39
IH2
I've been thinking about this for a a while and wanted to ask before messing up my site.
I currently have all of my images in one directory....thousands of images to be exact.
.../Large/Normal/PicName.jpg
.../Large/Normal/PicName2.jpg
.../Large/Normal/PicName3.jpg
etc, etc.
So, I've got lots of different product/manufacture categories and would like to group the pics according to the manufactures.
Possible or not?
Would the following work:
.../Large/Normal/Manufacture1/PicName.jpg
.../Large/Normal/Manufacture1/PicName2.jpg
.../Large/Normal/Manufacture1/PicName3.jpg
.../Large/Normal/Manufacture2/PicName.jpg
.../Large/Normal/Manufacture1563/PicName.jpg
.../Large/Normal/ManufactureABC/PicName56.jpg
Make sense?

personally since you are running 1.3.9h then I would install IH3.
but back to your question..I have my images set up as this:
store/images/promos/vendor folder/pictures in here
with IH you do not and will not need the medium or large fodlers anymore. as long as you let IH know where the image is stored you will only need the main image then the rest will have the same name as the main one with _01.jpg after it...changing the number for each additional image.
you will then be able to get rid of the images you have in the large and medium folders.
hope that makes sense, they would look as this for additional images:
.../images/manufacturers/Manufacture2/PicName.jpg
.../images/manufacturers/Manufacture2/PicName_01.jpg
.../images/manufacturers/Manufacture2/PicName_02.jpg
then the same for each manufacturer...and if there is only one image for each manufacturer then just sorting them into each folder for them is fine..just remember to name the image as close as the product so you don't accidently overwrite the other one.

Agree with DarkAngel, upgrading to IH3 is a good choice. Also, there is a very nice image naming tutorial in the IH3 Read_Me on the Troubleshooting tab in the section "Prepare Your Site for Growth"

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi, my BMZ_CACHE folder is full of images.
Can I delete it regularly? Do I create any error for ImageHandler2 or catalog?
Is it un unuseful directory or I have to leave it?
Thank you

Imagehandler will not work without the bmz_cache it is where image handler stores the images it creates,
Don't delete the images manually unless there is an actual problem using the image handler clear cache function loxcated
Admin --> Tools --> Image handler2
There should be 4 tabs
manager - admin - preview - about
go to the admin tab and click "Clear image cache" and this should delete all images in the cache
Image handler will rebuild the cache as images are requested by your store, so there should be no problems, i personally clear the cache about once a year (or before I do a full site back-up), just to clear out any images of products that are no longer available.
Ps if you are using the latest version of zencart you really should be using IH3, as it contains a few bug fixes and better compatibility for IE9
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
The problem is that the IH2 clear cache tool is not working.
If I empty the bmz_cache every month the images in the store are continuing working?
I'd like to know if bmz_cache can be emptied without damaging anything.
Thanks

If its not clearing the cache something is screwy with your setup (normally a server side permissions/ownership thing)
Yes you safely can delete all images and folders in the bmz_cache folder. image handler will recreate them as they are required.
do not delete the .htaccess file and the .keep file, the main reason we try to avoid people going the manual route is quite frankly some people delete first ask later and then neglect to tell us what they've done when something goes wrong.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
What I cannot understand is:
If I add additional images to a product, then IH2 creates some files in bmz_cache (true?)
If I delete all files in bmz_cache what happens to the additional images of the products in the store? Do they disappear? Is anything unchanged? If so, what is the reason for bmz_cache to exist?
Sorry to bother, but I want to make my mind clear on this.
Thank you,

Thank you,
IH2 takes your original images and makes optimized and resized copies of them and stores them in the bmz_cache folder. It leaves your original images untouched.
So, if you delete image copies from the bmz_cache folder, or clear the folder altogether, nothing happens to your original images. However, next time the page is loaded, copies of the images will be once again placed in the bmz_cache folder.
Every time that page is loaded in the future, those image copies are served up from the bmz_cache folder, ensuring that your pages load faster (because the image copies are optimized and resized according to the IH2 configuration settings you specified when you installed IH2).
Suggest you download the IH3 installation package (it has a better READ_ME file) and read the first tab of the READ_ME...which explains what IH is and what it does. This might help you have a better understanding.
Good luck and happy Zenning

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Zen Cart 1.3.9h
PHP 5.2.5 (Zend: 2.2.0)
MySQL 5.0.22-community-nt
HTTP Server: Apache/2.2.14 (Win32) PHP/5.2.5
IIS: 6
Windows 2003
Image Handler: V3.0
---------------------------------------
Hi guys, I'm facing a very strange problem:
1. I'm using windows2k3 system and firstly I deployed the site on IIS6 and intalled the IH3. And everything seemed working fine.
2. Later, I stopped the IIS and installed Apache 2.2, and deployed the original site to Apache(all database files and site source code files were not modified nor moved), and found the IH3 is not working. More exactly, it's partially not working. The hover image is working fine as designated, but small and medium Images are not getting generated in the cache, so small and medium image srcs are referencing to the original large images instead of that in the cache.
3. If I shut down the Apache, and get back to IIS, it's working fine again.
It seems like the IH3 is not working with my apache. Even, I reninstalled the IH, and still it's not working with apache.
Is there any special configuration for Apache. Or someone else ever met this wired problem?
Thanks in advance!

I just got it solved by myself. It was due to the php.ini files. IIS and Apache are referencing different php.ini files because of bad configuration. After enable the gd2.dll in the php.ini Apache is referencing, this issue is gone!

Not an Image Handler support issue.. This is a server configuration issue..
For future reference IH3 support related questions should be posted in the IH3 support thread not the IH2 support thread..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I have a client using Zen 1.3.9 and IH2. They'd like to turn off the image hover function on the category pages. As there no no 'option' for this, my question is if I edit /includes/classes/bmz_image_handler.class.php will that work? Or am I likely to break other IH2 functions?
Said another way, is the hover function integral to IH2?

Said another way, is the hover function integral to IH2?
The hover feature was always one of those "nice to have" features that was thrown into IH2.. As IH2 was primarily meant to optimize and manage images, it is NOT an integral feature and if removed or modified does not affect IH2s PRIMARY purpose..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I hate to do this but I can't find the answer and I've put some time into looking at this thread.
I need to remove the image path from displaing in the hover. I understand that it is the alt tag that is displaying and I don't see where in the mod this is determined. I used dreamweaver to do search on the files but it's not popping out.
Plenty of references to $alt in the functions but I never see where that is set up.
Does anyone know where this might be found?

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi All,
Hope someone can point me in the right direction here, I'm having problems with my products not displaying the large image preview window, basically it freezes when opening in firefox & IE but seems fine on safari?
I've been trying to sort this out for a week now but with no sucess but have picked up some useful info regarding uploading my images and also correctly naming them.
So my main questions are, is this problem easily fixed or should I just look at upgrading to IH3?
The store has been customized & installed by a fellow zen cart forum member who could be contacted about this problem but I would prefer to start learning how to fix these problems out myself.
Zen V1.3.9h
IH2 version 2
Thanks in advance & hope I haven't left anything important out:blush:
Cheers

Yes, a link to your site so we can see the problem, and the code thats causing it.
Provide a link to an effected page please.
When you say preview, do you mean
a) The large image on the product information page that appears when you click on the "larger image" link
OR
b) The hover image

So with a little bit of experimentation:
in templates/js/jscript_imagehover.js

Code:
newHTML = '<div><h1>' + title + '</h1>';
change it to this to keep the white border
Code:
newHTML = '<div><h1>' + '</h1>';

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Ah Ok, you mean the caption on the actual hover image box, yep thats the right way to remove it.
I assumed you meant the alttag that is displayed when you hover on an image, on any image, eg hover over your avatar to the left here and it should say "Delias Avatar", on some browsers that hover appears on the IH image hover and looks a bit odd.

This is a Zen Lightbox support issue rather than an IH2 support issue, because it is your lightbox that is not functioning.
When you install Zen Lightbox together with IH2, there are special installation instructions regarding a file they share. Unfortunately, the documentation for this has not yet been added to the Zen Lightbox Read_Me, and was not included in the IH2 Read_Me.
This special installation instruction was added to the Read_Me for IH3 Release. Even though you are still using IH2, recommend you download IH3 and take a look at the Read_Me file - specifically the "Troubleshooting" tab, under the section that addresses using IH and ZLB together.
If, after following those instructions, your lightbox still isn't functioning, recommend you post on the Zen Lightbox support thread.
Good luck and happy Zenning :)

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi,
I'm having problems uploading pictures.
I upload a product and add pictures with image handler, until then everything's fine. Then when I upload a second product and try to add pictures with image handler, I get the same pictures as the previous product, uploaded to my new product as well ! And if I try to edit these pictures to put the ones I want instead, they also change in my first product ! And it goes the same for every product I add after that. It's like it's the same picture files for every product.
Does anyone have any idea of what might be the problem ? I'm really stuck here..
Thank you !

You need to post in the IH3 support thread. This thread is for IH2.

It matters so much that there's a detailed tutorial for image file naming in the IH3 Read_Me. Even though you are running IH2, the file naming protocol is the same.
Recommend that you download the IH3 installation package, launch the Read_Me file, and take a look at the Troubleshooting tab under the section called "Prepare Your Site for Growth".

This
isn't an image handler thing, it is to do with Zencarts support for accessibility
But any way, it appears IE8 supports the alt tag correctly (a mod couldn't dlete my last to posts please), by not showing an image hover.
Find your \includes\functions\html_output.php file make a backup of the file
around line 197
Code:
// alt is added to the img tag even if it is null to prevent browsers from outputting
// the image filename as default
$image = '<img src="' . zen_output_string($src) . '" alt="' . zen_output_string($alt) . '"';
if (zen_not_null($alt)) {
$image .= ' title=" ' . zen_output_string($alt) . ' "';
}
and replace it with this
Code:
// alt is added to the img tag even if it is null to prevent browsers from outputting
// the image filename as default
$image = '<img src="' . zen_output_string($src) . '" alt="' . zen_output_string($alt) . '"';
if (zen_not_null($alt)) {
$image .= ' title=""';
}
The above should work in all browsers except IE6, and it doesn't really effect the accessibility because the alt tag is still in place
Please can you tell me if this is still the best way to fix this problem?
I am using ZC version 1.3.9h and Image Handler 2, also since yesterday have installed Categories Dressing.
Im sure the problem wasnt there yesterday but today I have the alt tag coming right over the image on hover which looks awful.
Hover over these images and you will see the problem.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hey everyone,
This is my first time posting. I haven't been able to pinpoint any specific threads with my question. Please help me out if you can.
Zencart 1.3.9h
I installed the zen light box addon 1.6.2 and it was working fine on my site. After which I installed IH2 and now it's running correctly but for some reason it stopped the lightbox from working.
I need the onclick of additional images to run through the lightbox. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi There
Is there any particular reason you're using IH2 instead of IH3?
IH3 was built specifically for Zencart 1.3.9 and includes significant changes and upgrades.
Having said that, the answer to your question applies to both IH2 and IH3, and can be found in the "Misc" tab of the IH3 Read_Me documentation (but not in the Read_Me for the earlier IH2 version). The answer can also be found on this thread by searching the keywords "Zen Lightbox" or "ZLB".
The short answer to your question is that IH and ZLB share a common file. When you install both IH and ZLB, you must do one of two things. Either:
Install IH 1st and ZLB 2nd
or
If you installed IH 2nd, then you must overwrite the shared file using the one from the ZLB download pack.
This is because all of the necessary IH code is already included in the ZLB version of the shared/common file, but the necessary ZLB code is not included in the IH version of the shared/common file. (So if you install IH after you install ZLB, the IH version of the shared/common file overwrites all the ZLB code and ZLB won't work).
The shared/common file I refer to is: includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/additional_images.php. Simply take this file from the ZLB download pack and upload it to your server. When asked if you want to overwrite the existing file, say "yes".
Note: Even if you decide to upgrade from IH2 to IH3 (which is strongly recommended), you'll need to follow the solution mentioned above since ZLB was installed 1st.
Good luck and happy Zenning

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hello,
Please, please, please help me!!.
I attempted to download IH yesterday to my zencart without success so then went and deleted all the effected files and re-installed the original ones which I had backed up. Everything was working as normal again until I 'accidently' overwrote my index.php file in my public html and now I am unable to access my admin.
I've downloaded an index.php file from a new zencart but it is still not working because I've no idea how to link it to my site.
I'm not technical minded at all, hence my stupid mistake and problem!.....
SQL language is double-dutch to me so if there is anyone that could advise me where I need to make amendments I would truly appreciate it and hopefully that will fix my mistake?!?
My Site Name is: LynKan.com
The only changes I've made to the zencart is the template - I changed it to pinkywinky.
If this doesn't work, is my only other option to start from scratch again with a new zencart?
If I then upload the files I had backed up (images, includes, cache & admin) would it all be working properly again??
Sorry for babbling on......
I look forward to any guidance to help me out.
Thanks

ok, I may be wrong but if you uploaded the index.php to the root of your store and admin still won't play nice then that is not the file.
Are you sure you did not delete the admin folder/includes/configure.php file I think that one is the one that lets you into admin section as well as having renamed it from the original admin
do you get an error message when attempting to go to admin?

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hello all,
I installed Image Handler2,but have a problem for me.
I used godaddy hosting, but they have some limite as can't have more than 1024 files in per folder,so i must clear the bmz_cache folder every day,it's tried for me,so i need use cron job to clear the bmz_cache folder every day,and because i have no to do it in some days, then the godaddy workers closed my hosting.
1.but i don't know how to set it in godaddy cron job manager, please let me know the command.
2.If you can help us more,i hope you can fix this problem for godaddy hosting user: let the different cache picture to differrent folders,as bmz_cache/Large_cache/ and bmz_cache/M_cache/ ..., limite files number for per folders, and when the pictures files over the number, then it auto to creat files to other folders.if the script will be so cool, then godaddys user will be happy more.
Now i limite the files less than 1024 in per folders and set faile for Image Handler2,but have many new products and many old products must use oriange picture, and the picture too big,so the site very very slowly now. it will cost about 10s to open full.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
A coupla comments to add here..
At the risk of being accused (again) of being the forum police, the issue here seems to have LESS to do with an Image Handler install issue than it appears to be a Zen Cart configuration/installation issue..
Suggest that the OP correct the issue she has with her Zen Cart installation, and come back to the Image Handler support thread only if there are issues with the Image Handler installation.. Any discussions surrounding troubleshooting Zen Cart installation/configuration should not be conducted here in this support thread as it is waaaay off topic..
Secondly, The OP should be using the LATEST version of Image Handler (Image Handler 3) and not Image Handler 2. This means IF there really is an Image Handler 3 issue that discussion should take place on the Image Handler 3 support thread..

if you have the files sitting in the main folders of the store (original folders ) it should work, but if you put them into folders with your other templates name then you broke it.
when changing themes you need to put the files to any mod into the new template s folder as well as any override folders you have.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hello!
I apologize in advance if this is the incorrect area to post this question and problem.
I am also suddenly having an issue with the images appearing on my products. Old products working fine, new products not so much!
I am running Zen Cart 1.3.8a
Database Patch Level: 1.3.8
v1.3.8 [2009-06-03 18:14:52] (Fresh Installation)
v1.3.8 [2009-06-03 18:14:52] (Fresh Installation)
GoDaddy Linux/Shared Hosting
PHP 4.x
MSQL
The site has not been updated since initially installed.
I assume I need to figure out what version of the image handler I am using first?
How and where do I go to see what version of the IH I am using?
Again, I apologize for being in the wrong place, technologically impaired, and short on caffeine to further muck up the works.
Cheers

1. post link to store for better help
2. if not too involved in mods and all---upgrade to zencart 1.3.9h-- far more stable and secure than the one you have. I have had to go bail out people that their hosts shut them down due to hacks that were made to their stores.
3. assuming you have not added IH recently then most likely you are using v2...also upgarade to 1.3.9h store then to IH3 which is also improved to go with new store coding.
4. possibly expect problems with go daddy--others have when it comes to their stores and that ridiculous host.
5. in admin area: admin/tools in that drop down menu you will see the link to IH and it should say what version you have in the name

Cannot remove or Replace an image
ver 1.3.9h
THis is a very sporadic issue so not easy to duplicate. But, today for about the fifth time in past few months I tried to replace and even remove an image, but it will NOT budge. When I tried to add a new image with the product editor , the image would go into as an "added" image instead of the primary image. As in this product below:
http://www.cvtreasures.com/hollywood...ry-rare-p-2310
Note the secondary image, I am trying to make the primary image (it is same image but brighter than the current primary image

when you go to replace the image are you going into IH control or through the description for the product?
are you -- when using image handler controls--
do you click new file button --- this will add it as an additional image at times
1. click the space between the little i inside the circle to get the right spot then click delete to get rid of the image
then upload the new one you want to replace it
or manually go to server where the image is and upload new one with exact same name to overwrite the one there that should work to replace the picture

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi everyone,
I installed IH2 last night (I didn't go to IH3 because I was put off by the too many files but I will probably do so once I get more familiar). I run 1.3.9h on a test environment and therefore I can not provide a link but I have some screen shots to describe a small issue I face.
Before going to the issue, I will share my experience in case it proves useful to other users. I must confess that I didn't read all posts in this thread (almost 700 pages) and tried to work on the basis of the readme file.
I listed two test products and created a thumbnail (named thumbsize.jpg), a medium size (named mediumsize.jpg) and a large size (named largesize.jpg) image for each. I added the images for each product from the IH2 manager, only to find out that the images of the second product were overwriting those of the first product because of the identical file names which were saved in the /image folder. Adding the proper path in the box provided (see the red arrow in screenshot1 below, solved the problem. It took me some time to understand the reason, but it seems that the brain of a 64-year old doesn't work very fast in our days.
Now, I have New Products and Featured Products listed at the bottom of main page. See the values as entered in the Configuration > Index Listing in the screenshot2 and how it actually appears in screenshot3 below. The heading New Products is actually a modified "New Products for ... (month)" of the standard ZC.
As you can see in screenshot 4, the hover effect works fine with Featured Products but it doesn't with the New Products section and this is the reason for my post. Can anyone understand what could be wrong and either suggest a solution or give me a clue as to where I should search?
I read in post #6868:
Quote:
When you hover your mouse over an image, look at the info bar at the bottom of your browser to see what the file path is. If it does not say "bmz_cache" followed by a combo of a bunch of letters and/or numbers, then the image files are not being served from the bmz_cache folder.
Hovering over the image of Second Test Product it only shows the /index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_16_23&products_id=12 in both New and Featured products, while if I right click on Chrome and then click Inspect Element, I get:
<img src="images/products/movies/documentary/history/test2/thumbsize.jpg" alt="Second test product" title=" Second test product " width="120" height="96"> in the New Products and
<img src="images/products/movies/documentary/history/test2/thumbsize.jpg" alt="Second test product" title=" Second test product " width="120" height="96" style="position:relative" onmouseover="showtrail('bmz_cache/6/68a5c18a0ab6cc9ffa54908bc8b8ca26.image.250x250.jpg','Second test product',120,96,250,250,this,0,0,120,96);" onmouseout="hidetrail();"> in Featured Products.
The hover effect works with New Products in page /index.php?main_page=products_new and the Inspect Element shows:
<img src="images/products/movies/documentary/history/test2/thumbsize.jpg" alt="Second test product" title=" Second test product " width="120" height="96" style="position:relative" onmouseover="showtrail('bmz_cache/6/68a5c18a0ab6cc9ffa54908bc8b8ca26.image.250x250.jpg','Second test product',120,96,250,250,this,0,0,120,96);" onmouseout="hidetrail();">
The hover effect works also fine in pages /index.php?main_page=featured_products and /index.php?main_page=products_all.
Sorry for the long post which is probably tiring to read. I hope that someone out there will come up with an explanation for which my thanks are advanced.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Well, to start with you're using IH wrong. With image handler you do not need to create small, medium, large images. You simply upload one image and IH will hand the small, medium and large automatically resizing based on your configuration. Also, there are so many bug fixes included in IH3 and there are are a few less files in IH3 installation rather than more than IH2. You're better of starting with the most current version of IH3 and troubleshoot from IH3 if you still experience the problem you're having.
Also, what are your current configuration for IH? Are you using any custom template and if so is the jscript folder correctly placed? It's hard to help you troubleshoot without access to the site giving you the issue.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Thank you for the quick response.
I understand that it's hard to help without access to the live site. I was just hoping that it could be something easy to guess for someone using the IH for some time.
I'm not using IH wrong. I deliberately create and upload small, medium and large images because of the different proportions of each type. For example, if I uploaded only a 1200x1800 large image (portrait) and I wanted the small image to be 120x96 (landscape), IH would resize it to 64x96 if I had defined 96 as the standard height for small images or to 120x180 if I had defined 120 as the standard width. Similarly, I want my medium images to be 250x250 and, defining either width or height to 250, would resize the large image to 250x375 or 167x250. What I do now is to prepare the small and medium images with PhotoShop by cropping a part of the large image (easy to do). I know that the medium and large image files are optional, but uploading all three sizes gives the desired results.
I am using the default ZC template modified (a lot) with CSS and changes to some core files. I know that the latter is a "sin" but I keep track of what I change for future version upgrades. I have a my_template folder where the jscript folder is correctly placed as per the mod's folder structure. Besides, the hover effect wouldn't work at all if that was the case.
Having said that and now that I have some experience from struggling with IH2, I will uninstall it and give IH3 a try. If the problem persists (and most probably it will), I will update the live site and post in the IH3 support thread for help.
Thanks again for your response and wishes for a nice day.

Well, IH3 actually solves some of the issue you describe. If you want a medium that's 250 x 250 you simple add ! to it and everything is taken care of. You will of course have to read the changes in IH3 to understand this. If you go to our site in my signature you will note that the dimension for small and medium image remains the same, it doesn't matter what image size I upload to the server, the configuration handles perfectly when configured right. Yes! in IH2 things behaves the way you described but not in IH3.
If you're having to upload small, medium, large, then it defeats the purpose of IH (unless the hover effect is the ONLY reason you want IH)
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I have already uninstalled IH2 and will soon install IH3 to see if the issue resolves.
With regard to your last question: no, the hover effect is NOT the only reason I want IH. The main reason is to be able to place images in sub folders and have a neat structure of the images folder like, for example,
[FONT="Courier New"]images
..|_ products
....|_ category 1
......|_ subcategory 1
........|_ product 1
........|_ product 2
......|_ subcategory 2
........|_ product 1
....|_ category 2
....|_ category 3[/FONT]
The default ZC images folder and the need to place pictures in medium, large and root folders is very bad.
Thank you again and see you in the IH3 Support Thread. I will post there whether the upgrade was successful or not.

Sorry for the long post which is probably tiring to read. I hope that someone out there will come up with an explanation for which my thanks are advanced.
took out the images from the quote...
but for one thing you did not read the readme for naming your images...I also do not think you uploaded the images thru IH2 controls (clicking the little i), sorry if I am wrong.
questions is...do you want the hover or not
make sure your images settings are done right also. to get the hover to be consistent thru the entire store the settings are important.
you should not have been put off by the number of files...they are there with IH3 for a purpose and probably most of your trouble would have been stayed...IH3 is geared to work best in 1.3.9h of store software.
it is always better to have a link to the store for us to actually experience the trouble and just for the record....
there are NO _lrg or _med for the images to be used for IH--- if you have several for 1 item then you name them the same as the main image but place _01 changing this number for each image for that product.
You do not need any other ! or something else in the image name just
image.jpg
image_01.jpg until the last one which might be image_04.jpg for instance
each item must be named accordingly to ensure that one products image does not overwrite the other product.
please take the time to read that readme throughly...and use IH3 before going live to not have to mess later one with it.
update form the onset of installing store to help you have a great store....and way lay any problems while in testing mode
it also makes subcategories of images better too cause you only upload the one largest size to the server---no more different sizes...the IH software does the rest on its own
also try not to make the names toooooooo long and use a - or _ instead of spaces in the image name

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Thanks for your comments Dark Angel,
As I said in my previous post, I will go to IH3 after carefully reading the excellent documentation. As for the multiple images: I sometimes have a medium or large image different from the thumbnail but I may change the policy now.
I will see you in the IH3 support thread if everything doesn't go well, although I'm sure it will. I like your site by the way!

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I have my images sorted by vendor...makes for easier finding that is for sure and when I enter the description I preupload the images---after naming them right to the folder I want them in...then just type the path in the space where it says to choose one from the server.
i type the name of the main image and the others just follow on in when viewed.

A Image Handler has always supported this ability.. Most folks don't use it so they don't know this ability exists.. In the IH3 documentation we included ALL of Tim's original excellent documentation because there are a NUMBER of functions that Image Handler supports that other similar image manage modules for Zen Cart DO NOT support that most people are not aware of..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Thanks for the reply, I have checked all of the issues that you mentioned. Deleted and recreated the page renaming everything in the process but still its not working, in the preview window there is a click to enlarge message which brings up a preview showing a missing image icon. Anyone got any other ideas ?
Thanks

you must have deactivated the link cause I just tried it and got the product did not exist.
but you should consider upgrading to zen 1.3.9h and IH3 for better security....too many have lost hosting due to hackers messing with their stores

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hello.
I am using Zen Cart v1.3.9h and attempted to install Image Handler 2 (I did not realize there was an Image Handler 3 until later).
I followed the installation instructions by changing the includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE & includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE folders to my template name.
I did NOT rename the admin folder in the download to the name of my admin folder, because I never re-named my admin folder in the first place.
I installed all the contents of the Store_Root folder in my store root, but when I go to Zen Cart>Admin>Tools, I do not see "Image Handler 2" anywhere.
I have no idea what I did wrong, and am quite new at this stuff, so any help would be VERY much appreciated.
Thanks.

I would suggest you open the zip and open your server files with your ftp program.
Go to the zip and then just open the folders in both zip and server...compare to make sure you uploaded the files into the right spots
I would even upload the files again just to make sure I got them all and that the web did not mess up one on upload.
After you do that then go back to admin and see if IH2 shows in the tools menu
my quess is that one or more fiels is missing from admin folder

IH2 and IH3 are not compatible with Zen Cart 1.5 at the moment.
See recent long discussions about this issue in the IH3 support thread.
