I am having the same problem?
Any solutions?
Re: Paypal mixes up my Shipping address as Billing address?
Is there anyone else who has this problem?
Shipping and Billing address being mixed up!
When customers checkout using Paypal express and they are directed to the paypal site, the wrong address is populated into the BILLING information. The SHIPPING address the customer has entered in the zen cart checkout flow is the address that shows up on the paypal page as the BILLING address.
For example...if I wanted to purchase a product and send it to my sister as a gift, and I have entered her address as the shipping address, it is her address that shows up on paypal page as the billing information. This is an embarrassing mistake.
Please HELP!
Re: Shipping and Billing address being mixed up!
Can someone let me know if this is a known issue...or if you as well are having this problem!
Thanks
Re: Shipping and Billing address being mixed up!
PayPal only lets us pass shipping information, and in the case of someone who has not used paypal before, they're going to see the shipping address as the suggested data on the pay-without-an-account screen which I think you're referring to.
If someone *has* a PayPal account, then *that* billing information will always be used for the billing address.
So ... unless I'm missing something here, this is not a bug in Zen Cart. Maybe a design flaw on PayPal's end, but if you want to change *that*, you'll need to lobby *them* about that.
Re: Shipping and Billing address being mixed up!
Thank you SO much for getting back to me Dr. Byte!
I don't exactly follow what you were saying, and I think it's probably because I wasn't clear with my question.
My cart is set up so that a user can either use Paypal express checkout (if they have a paypal account) or they go through the regular Zen Cart checkout process, and then they are forwarded onto the Paypal site to give their credit card number and confirm their billing info. That is where the trouble comes in...if they aren't shipping to themselves, the shipping address (say their mother, brother, whoever) is populated in Paypal as the billing info.
You say that Paypal only lets us pass the shipping information. But that is what I am saying is the issue...when my customers go to the Paypal page they need their BILLING info passed so they only have to fill out their credit card info and hit submit. As it stands, they go to the paypal page and the billing address is their mother's, brother's or whoever's address. I'm sure they don't want to try to charge the person whom they are buying the gift for.
here is another post from a person who is having the same issue, maybe he explains it better then myself:

Thank you for your time!
Re: Shipping and Billing address being mixed up!
The 2 threads have been merged, since they're the same issue.
Re: Shipping and Billing address being mixed up!
Yes, I do understand exactly what you're saying.
And, there's nothing I can do about it. PayPal is taking the ship-to information (which is the only address they receive from your store) and filling in those fields with that information automatically. If you want them to do something different with that, you'll need to write to them and ask them to make a programming change to their payment systems used around the world. http://www.paypal.com/mts
A customer who has used PayPal before will automatically see a login screen to get to their PayPal account, and will never see the address info you are being irritated by.
A customer who has *not* used PayPal before is going to see that address screen, and PayPal is apparently operating on the premise that most people ship to themselves and therefore is assuming that it's logical to put the shipping information into those address fields to speed the process of getting to payment. Naturally, the person making the payment must put their own address in their or else their credit card is going to be declined due to invalid address match, so most will simply delete the pre-filled address and type their own in, taking and extra few seconds in the payment process.
I understand how a few customers might find it confusing. But there's nothing I can do about it for you. If you want it, you'll have to talk to Paypal and get them to add that functionality to the services they offer.

Does this mean that we are not allowed to pass the billing address to Paypal? I was thinking of simply switching what address is passed to Paypal: sending the billling address from Zen Cart instead of the shipping address. Could this be done or would it violate some kind of Paypal terms of use?
Re: Paypal mixes up my Shipping address as Billing address?
One more time - If this is a problem for you, you need to ask PayPal about it.
Re: Paypal mixes up my Shipping address as Billing address?
Hi there
This is so useful. Thanks to you guys for sharing your expertise.
I am making a new site with some products i want to sell through Paypal.
I am almost through but am not able to acheive the following i.e.
1> How to get Shiiping address details from customer and then reflect it in Paypal . Paypal asks for Billing address seperately but i want the shipping address there so customer is confident before he pays. How do we do it any ideas?
2> When I click Buy now button on my site it takes me to Paypal site . Now here I see my email address on the header that I dont want. Could someone tell me how to change that to my company name or any other text. And also when I am at the payment screen and at the bottom there is an option to cancle the transaction it again showws my email address that I want to change with some other text.
If some one has a ready made PHP page in which Customer can put his Shipping address etc and then it takes the customer to Paypal then please share . I am stuckup here.
Many Thanks

Just upgrade your PayPal account to a "Business" account. That will let you put a company name where the Email address is.

Thanks for this. I already have a premier account. Do I still need to upgrade to Business account ?
Re: Paypal mixes up my Shipping address as Billing address?
A premier account shows your email address as your identity. A Business account shows your company name.
That's why I quoted your email-address concern and told you the solution was to upgrade to Business.

Thanks a lot.
Any idea about how to pass on the
Shipping address that Customer enters on my Page before he clicks on ADD TO CART Button for Paypal. I am looking for some ready made template as I am not good in PHP coding at the moment.

Perhaps you didn't read my answers to this question in the original discussion at the beginning of this thread?
Re: Paypal mixes up my Shipping address as Billing address?
I totally understand as my website uses PayPal and I have been struggling with merchant technical services to help with this. You are most likely not doing anything wrong. I just finished with them asking and trying to see what I can do to pass my recipient ship-to-address and not have it pre populate or pass into the biller address. I found out it cannot be done per the tech guy. Their program features do not allow it. We were told to pass hidden variables but pass into the biller address and my customers do not like that and I am losing business with it. Because I have been requesting and dealing with problems with it since early August he is now putting in a programming request to add a feature in the Paypal side to allow the ship to address and not have it roll into the buyer address. However, it is unknown when they will get to the implementation of my request and need. I asked for any options and I asked if I upgraded from website payment standard to something else if it would help. I was told their programming doesn't allow it. So, thus the request for PayPal to add the feature but who knows when it may be available. This leaves me needing to find someone else to handle the transactions. Good Luck.
Re: Shipping and Billing address being mixed up!
Dr Byte, I too have had the same shipping pre populating to buyer's bill address and I did work with merchant technical support and no luck. You are right and they are putting in a programming request to add the functionality. I have a question for you though if you have any suggestions since you are so versed here.. Do you have any recommendation on a merchant to use in place of PayPal where we wouldn't have the ship-to address issue? I thought maybe since you encompassed this problem you might be using somebody else and I would be interested in who you use or suggest? Thank you for your time.
