Anyone using godaddy?

Okay so I downloaded my site and changed the store all around and redid my database and then went to upload it. It times out...so I sent godaddy a error ticket...this is their respone.

"Unfortunately we cannot support a database backup from another system for a GoDaddy Hosting Application. We suggest referring to the Zencart support forums or your preferred search engine for other users who may have experienced the same issue. We apologize for any inconvenience regarding this issue."

Great now I got at least two weeks of changes that I cant upload. I think its time for a new host. It took them two days to send that response. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks

Answer: Find a decent webhost, of which GoDaddy is not.

Re: Anyone using godaddy?

a couple of questions.....
1. where did you download your website from?
2. are you trying to change your servers?
3. how are you uploading? (from godaddy control panel or another program)

Goddady does support Zencart when you install it from your hosting panel go to Hosting Connection where there are all kinds of applications that are free. Chose Zencart and it will install ITSELF.
then all you need to do is upload only the files you edited from your download.

This changes nothing.... GoDaddy hasn't the umph to import his database. They are slow, overloaded and did I mention slow?

Re: Anyone using godaddy?

that very well maybe true however if he already purchased the hosting then I was trying to help work around his issue.
Not to mention you can get as much Ump as you need depending on his hosting plan. Currently I have 3 instances of ZC on one thier hosting plans and about to install another.
Perhaps you can give him a recommendation for a better host????

Re: Anyone using godaddy?

E-commerce is (or should be) taken seriously - unless you're just doing it for a hobby from your garden shed.

GoDaddy is absolutely fine for the hobbyists, who don't care (or mind) if their installations fall over, or if they experience countless hassles, downtime, operational inadequacy, functional inefficiency, etc.

People who intend to run a business owe it to themselves AND their customers, to run a secure, reliable and robust webshop - and this starts with using proper hosting.

As with everything out there, CHEAP usually means NASTY - so the best initial benchmark for reliability is price.

Zencart is very reliable software, but it is only as strong as its weakest link.

If you want to see a list of reliable hosts, click the link at the top of this web page...

Re: Anyone using godaddy?

I use GoDaddy. It's not the best but, hey, the hosting wasn't that cheap and I've a year left on it. Things have gotten a bit better with them of late, but they definitely have issues with Zen Cart being on one server and the database being on an entirely different machine. It's the network traffic between the 2 that is the killer. Otherwise ZC pages would always load in a reasonable time (they usually do, but sometimes the load fails partial or completely).

Me, I put in my footer who the host is. If people notice it then if the page doesn't load right the visitor knows which host NOT to use. What I like is being able to use asp pages as well as php, best of both worlds.

I assume you're using Easy Populate. If so, split the file into 250 lines each. I still get a server error page when importing, but in every case the import actually happens properly and it's just the report that doesn't show up when the import completes (instead, I always get the server error page once over about 1k products have been imported already). The more products a store has on GoDaddy, the more issues occur with importing products and just normally using the site.

You can check that EP really did import, just look at the 1st and last lines of the previous import file and see if those products are in the store or not.

Unfortunately, on a large store I can not use EP to download. I get the server error. Only happens if the store is large, though. Instead, I must use the GoDaddy sql manager to get a copy of the database over to my local computer.

I forget exactly where, but in ZC there are some settings related to timeouts. Increasing them might help some, but it won't solve all the timing related issues. When my hosting is up, I'm leaving GoDaddy. They don't provide what they advertise for MySQL with PHP, but they offer both, and IMHO they blame ZC wrongly since the issues don't occur elsewhere... and if they don't support ZC then why do they offer to install it free.

The time out problems was upload & install

RGME:

The ZC installation 'IS' supported when its "Their' install (why I asked for specifics)
I am not advocating GoDaddy just trying to work around his issue.

Re: Anyone using godaddy?

I use godaddy and uploaded Zen Cart through them. The connection is still slow. It has nothing to do with the site itself (which took me a week to figure out) but the connection to godaddy servers. Even getting onto my Admin, and FTP is a hassle. The connection time varies from 4 -12 seconds, most of the time towards the 12 sec. mark unless I am looking at it at 3 am. I know my problem is not with Zen but with godaddy. When I asked them what was going on their answer was to turn everything I could off and it will run fine. Mostly everything is turned off and it didn't improve the connection time.

Now I am looking into switching hsoting sites and looked at the ones that Zen considers good to use, the only one I have heard of is Blue Host so I am leaning towards them. Is this a good idea?

Re: Anyone using godaddy?

Hmm. My 1st store I installed by myself. Has over 3k products. Usually runs fine, but occasionally will display a partial page or even get a server error. Is a bit slow, though. My 2nd store, well, I must have messed something up somehow because it can't display a page faster than 1 click per minute. So I got quite angry with GoDaddy, and I'm a long time customer. They suggested I use THEIR installation instead of doing it myself. So today, I did that (3rd store, really a product stock clone of the 2nd which I'm gonna have to rebuild). I've got the footer showing parse time etc. turned on. I'm amazed at how fast it works! No problems with a bit over 1k products, Easy Populate imports segmented files (250 lines each) with no problems, and no server error resultant pages (my 1st store always gets that error). To me, that's just amazing as it's not what I'm used to using GoDaddy. Fast as I can click, it displays almost as fast. 1,688 queries in 1.35 seconds.

Not sure why THEIR install should seem to work much faster than my own install, but I've a theory that shared hosting is prioritized and during the install by GoDaddy they up the internal networking priority level and MySQL works like it should. So far, seems to be the case.

Lots of work to do to the appearance, and I didn't follow the all important template override rules (I'll get to that later) but I'll be ready and advertising before Black Friday.

My suggestion is do not install ZC yourself if it's hosted on GoDaddy. Let them install it, then just make it look the way you want and stock it. Made a large difference for me. Don't forget the login is Admin and pw is admin right after the install (change it).

Are you paying your own server or are you just sharing one? I am not understanding why using GoDaddys upload for Zen works really well for some and doesn't work well at all for others.

No, Sunday, just using regular shared hosting at GoDaddy, business account though. I don't understand why their install works well for some but not for others, either. All I know is this is the first time I've used their install instead of my own, and the speed difference is quite noticeable. No comparison, really. Maybe it's a fluke. Perhaps those others not having good luck are copying over some existing .php files from a different install to their new store that GoDaddy installed?

On the other hand, I would not put it past GoDaddy to throttle MySQL in hopes they can get a more expensive account. Maybe my consistent complaining, from an account over 7 years old with them, convinced them to give higher priority to MySQL internal network traffic on shared hosting than I'd otherwise of gotten. I just don't know.

I was having delays of much longer than 7 seconds. What happens if you install another store and then, with no modifications, stock it identically? Does it work faster then? Got more than 1,000 items in your store? Using Easy Populate, I noticed that on my 1st store once I got over about 1.5k products then things suddenly got much slower.

Kim:

Kim, moving to another host doesn't solve the issue nor help in understanding why it is occurring. It's costing people lots of money both for accounts that don't work properly with Zen Cart, and in lost labor time due to confusion that increases ZC support questions. These things should NOT be happening. Now, GoDaddy blames Zen Cart and Zen Cart blames GoDaddy. Who's really at fault, why, and what if anything can be done? Are there other PHP/MySQL combined apps also working everywhere else except at GoDaddy, or does Zen Cart have a monopoly? I think the Zen Cart community should be very supportive in finding out what is really going on.

Sunday, you can pm me if you like. I really don't want to change host, I want a solution for myself and other GoDaddy users. I'll work with other GoDaddy users towards that end. I thought this was the proper forum for this sort of thing.

Zencart works faultlessly on literally hundreds of thousands of other installations. Most of my clients' sites are hosted with one provider and never (in nearly 6 years) has any fault arisen that can even be remotely attributed to Zencart. I have a smattering of client sites with other providers, but likewise - not a single minute's problems - ever!

RGME:

What utter rubbish! Neither Kim, nor this forum is the person / place to SOLVE hosting issues. It is a place where problems are aired and opinions are offered. Many people have gone further and offered solutions to some of the more practical issues. But the only place GoDaddy clients can voice their anger and frustration is with GoDaddy itself.

To suggest that the developers of this superb software must assume resopnsibility for the inadequacies of an independent company that has nothing to do with this project, is both insulting and inappropriate.

You owe an apology!
