    Default Can't log in to admin after attempted upgrade from 1.5.1 to 1.5.3

    I've run into some problems with my zen-cart upgrade, and I'm hoping someone can give me some advice.

    I tried to upgrade from version 1.5.1 to 1.5.3. In the past, with these smaller upgrades I've just taken ONLY the files that have been changed in the upgrade, made customizations if necessary, and uploaded the files. I've had no issue with this method in the past, and I used it in my attempt to upgrade this time as well.

    After uploading all of the changed files to my site, a red banner appeared at the top of each page, which said: "Your database appears to need patching to a higher level. See Admin -> Tools -> Server Information to review patch levels." I put the site down for maintenance at this point. When I looked at my Server Information, it showed that I was still running version 1.5.1 (the old version). This didn't add up, so I looked at the Zen-Cart upgrade tutorial which said it was necessary to run /zc_install/index.php and follow the prompts to upgrade. While doing this, I got a message that /admin/includes/configure.php and /includes/configure.php were not writeable, so I changed the file permissions to 777 (from 644). After all of this, I finally clicked the "Database Upgrade" button... but it took me to a blank screen, with no indication of anything loading (it said to be patient, so I was... but it remained a blank screen). At this point, I decided it would be best to just restore all the old files (as they were pre-upgrade), since I obviously had to figure this out in more depth and I didn't want the site to be in this state of limbo while I did, since it could take a while for me.

    Before starting the upgrade process, I had downloaded a full copy of all the files on my site, so I had them available to restore. I put all of the "new" files I'd tried to upgrade with into a /store_old/ folder, and re-uploaded all of my old backed up site files to the home directory. After doing this, the site looked fine, like it was back to normal... but I am now unable to log into my zen-cart admin panel.

    If all of the files are identical to before the attempted upgrade, why am I unable to login to the admin? My only idea is that maybe the "Database Upgrade" step in /zc_install/index.php actually went through, and now the version of the site files and the version of the database don't match up, which is leading to the error. I'm just a novice at this though, so any help would be appreciated.

    Should try to be clearer about which same problem you are having... The OP first indicated the blank screen when trying to perform the upgrade, then the inability to login after restoring the files... There are three posts I can think of related to those two problems...

    I have seen this issue in ZC 1.5.1 to ZC 1.5.3 upgrades, and really following the error logs, and briefly applying the hardcoding to end up removing a /../ from the path ends up resolving the issue. Then, once upgraded restore the file that had to be modified.

    The error log(s) are found in the logs folder for ZC Version 1.5.1 and greater.
