    Default Setting up Downloads

    Forum Angels,

I am revisiting ZenCart-land with a new installation after a two-year hiatus and cannot get a product to be downloadable.

This is a plain vanilla installation on a UnixLinux server, with Simple Scripts, default template and no customizations. Everything is current.

So far, I have set up a test category, with several dummy products (without special characters or spaces, and zipped). The product is uploaded to the download folder on the server. I have enabled downloads and set the php "download by redirect" to true.

When I make a test purchase, I click on the test download product I am directed to "product_info&products."

I click on "add this to my cart" and am directed to "shopping cart."

When I click on "go to checkout" I am sent to "checkout_payment."

I click on "continue checkout" and directed to "checkout_payment."

Here, I click on "confirm the order" and sent to "checkout success" without receiving a link to download.

I have added attribute names (color, size, shape) and attribute values (red, green, blue) but don't see how this changes the products' download capability. In Admin->Catalog->Attributes Controller, I do not have a download product or list, nor a green dot. When I try to add the download product again, I get this error message: ##Duplicate Attribute - Attribute was not added - : TEXT

I looked through this forum, and have read through the ZC Manual (written for v1.3.7.1) and the current update, and the FAQ's https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=71, and https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=292.

Also, instructions differ on whether " /pub" permissions should be "755" or "777."

    Thanks in advance.

Check that the order status is not "Pending" for the downloadable product or the download link will not appear.

Thanks for the reminder. I forgot to mention this in my post. I used the Zen Cart FREE CHARGE CARD. Free download products should not even get to the shipping options.

    Gentlemen,
Thanks for your feedback, which is much appreciated. I have checked both the "pending" status and revisited Article 71.

Here is what I have done and screen shots of the results:
Admin > Catalog > Option Name Manager

Admin > Catalog > Option Value Manager

Admin > Catalog > Options Controller

    Store > Checkout_Success

    Happy to have your feedback.
    Thanks again.

You're not setting it up correctly.
It doesn't matter what words you put into the Option Name or Option Value.
The filename is specified inside the Attribute where you match up the names and values:
In the Attributes Controller, you need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page where it lets you enter the filename of the downloadable file.

After you do that, you'll see the files listed in the Downloads Manager, and then they'll show up in checkout. Until you do that, you're skipping steps and not going to get the desired results.

    (Ladies and) Gentlemen,

Thanks for your help. Here is my progress report. I am understanding this better and am closer to connecting, but not there yet. I hope you may be able to see what I'm doing wrong from these screen shots.

Admin > Catalog > Attributes Controller

Note the error message at the top of the Attributes Controller page.

As per https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=71, you need to actually specify the download filename when setting up the attribute you're assigning to the product. It's not enough to merely choose a combination of name+value pairs: you need to also set the filename.
Then, you'll see those filenames listed in the Admin->Catalog->Downloads Manager along with appropriate green dots.

Only then will the files actually be attached to new orders when those attributes are selected and added to the cart before purchasing.
