Ok it ends up that Google Checkout is an option, but then you click proceed and it takes you back to the cart, instead of the place where you enter a credit card number or google checkout account info.

Ok here is a quote I had missed:

GCO starts on your shopping cart page and never enters the regular Zen Cart's checkout procedure. If you go to regular checkout and select gco there, it will take you back to the shopping cart page. If you installed the module correctly, you should have a GCO button right under the standard checkout button on your shopping cart page.

I do not have GCO as an option on my shopping cart page, what could that be due to ?

You didn't upload includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_shopping_cart_default.php or you didn't upload it correctly.

But you have to realize that it's quite hard to guess around without the actual URL...

I have Google Checkout installed and it seems to be working.
Its been a long time since I used GC so I'm not sure if it installed completely.

I only have the GC option until I sign into the store and then its gone. I don't have a problem with that but was wondering if that's normal?

Also, I can't seem to find the url or what file GC should be pointed to in the Merchant Integration on Google setup page.

    Thanks.

OMG! Is anyone having any luck with GCO? I am new to Zen-Cart and I planned on using GCO instead of a merchant account from the merchant services provider I use for my brick & morter business. GCO seemed to be a better deal.

Is it that hard to work with?

    Maybe I should re-consider!

Maybe u should. GCO is OK, but it didn't get the wings it was supposed to have. The idea was to have a very popular payment gateway owned by Google, but it's not nearly as popular as they had intended it to be. PayPal is still #1 in the whole world.

For example, when you're pointing someone to search for something, you're gonna say "go and google it". You won't hear anyone say "go yahoo it" or "go bing it" "go altavista it". The same is with internet payments - "you can paypal me". Did you ever hear "you can GCO me" ?

I have GCO working with 1.3.9h, but it's not easy to set it up. Not easy at all. Took me about 3 days to get everything running and I consider myself somewhat advanced with Zen Cart. On the other hand, PayPal is integrated and it'll take you 5 minutes to set it up and have the site running and accepting PayPal. Keep in mind that 5 minutes is if you're color-blind, have one eye missing, sitting in a wheel-chair and typing with your toes because you have no arms...

I have no idea, works just fine on my site. Show up no matter if you're logged in or a guest... The only problem I'm having (and I'm not even sure if it's a problem or is it normal) is that after successful purchase, a customer account is not created... The order shows up in admin, but w/o account.

If your store is pretty new and you don’t have a lot of modules installed yet just do a clean install of GCO and it will work just fine. Don’t use Basic Authentication, and make sure the path to “responsehandler.php” inside your Google Checkout Integration is correct.
I would not make GCO the only payment processor because it is very time sensitive, and that will mess with your shipping charges. Plus, Google like Paypal is not a Bank, and don’t follow the same rules as banks, so beware.
I set the default shipping amounts to $100 or more, so that buyers will know if Google is messing up and can choose another processor to pay for their purchases. GCO has always from the day it was released had a problem with timing and will sometime not show the shipping that was shown to the buyer in your store. If a customer tries to use GCO while the server is being backed up, or its responding too slow GCO will fail. So, make sure buyer's have another option.

GCO never turned into the "next big thing" it was supposed to be.. Google themselves has withdrawn support for the GCO mod which is why the currently available codebase has not been updated in YEARS..

In my experience your customer is king and they don't care why YOU think Google checkout SHOULD be better.. They only know that they want their checkout experience to be SMOOTH.. There are far too many little tweaks, workarounds and such required with GCO IMHO.. It only takes one part of the checkout transaction to go wrong to lose a customer, and that is an unacceptable risk for a small shop owner..

Just recently the ONLY client I have who INSISTED on GCO finally asked me to disable it.. She upgraded her PayPal account to Payments Pro and saw what a big difference accepting credit cards directly on her site (versus routing clients to PayPals site) makes in the number of completed transactions..

As a result she's dumping GCO.. Completed transactions are what matters to customers. They certainly are not interested in what SHOULD be better.. They kust want to make they're purchase in as troublefree a msnner possible..
