Duplicating Zones for Sub-Zone List?

I want to create a sub-zones that can appear on registration form and in customers field as a pulldown list. The structure will be look like this:

Country1>zones1>sub-zones1

Country1>zones1>sub-zones2

Country1>zones1>sub-zones3

Country1>zones2>sub-zones1

Country1>zones2>sub-zones2

Country1>zones2>sub-zones3

etc...



Can i create it by duplicating zone list module and renaming some files?

If it could be, what files and folders i have to duplicate? and what codes must be changed too?

This will be complicated... There's also the database to consider - and probably a basket-load of PHP files as well...

Is the reason for you wanting this "mission critical"?

No, but i guess it was an easy step to do, like duplicating some shipping or payment modules with a little changes of some codes.

If this can be done through the admin area, the calculation of the shipping cost will be more accurate and easier.

There is a very good shipping module available called Advanced Shipper. It is a commercial module from CEON, but it is capable of handling practically any shipping configuration.

We used it on a couple of sites a few years ago, where it was important to limit delivery on some items to certain postcodes only. (The items were alcoholic beverages).

CEON put several hundred hours into developing this module, and in my opinion, the small fee he charges for it is worth evey penny.
