    Default Images popup

I have just tried to do this on my website, Kaleidoscope Galaxy specifically with the category bi-planes only (to start with). For some reason only my thumbnails are showing. In my directory this is how I have them: images/Bi-Planes/each individual plane.jpg, images/Large/Bi-Planes/each individual page_LRG.jpg and images/Medium/Bi-Planes/each individual page_MED.jpg. The only size that is showing are the thumbnails and I am not sure where I am going wrong. Any ideas on where I am going wrong? Thanks.

    Default Images popup

I have read over the posts again and again re: the images for thumbnail, med, and large. I could initially only get thumbnails to show. Then I read about lower or uppercase .jpg so I realized they were different and changed them to all be uniform and reloaded all the images. Now I have the thumbnails working and the medium images working but am batting my head against the wall to get large pop up to work.
My general set up is for each category: images/biplanes/aquabi.jpg, images/medium/biplanes/aquabi.jpg and images/giantimages/biplanes/aquabi.jpg.

At first I had the giantimages as the name large but changed it thinking it might be tripping up my system b/c I have a category called Large Kaleidoscopes.

If anyone can clue me in on where I am going array I would be really grateful.

Also wondering if it is possible to create a next for the pop-ups when they are open so a person does not have to click individually on each additional image pop-pop...I am going to see now if I can find a link anywhere on the forums for that but since I am here figured I would ask.

You could solve your problems simply by installing ImageHandler3.

Once installed, you no longer need MED or LRG images... you just need one main image.

This should be the largest size you wish to display. Typically, we save our images at about 750 x 550 pixels (landscape), and 550 X 750 pixels (portrait).

We compress the jpegs so that the file SIZE is between 125 and 175 kilobytes. We use PHOTOSHOP (or the free equivalent, GIMP), to re-size and compress the images. This helps ensure graphic quality and professionalism.

Then we just load all images to the MAIN images folder.

If you have more than 2000 images, then it is a good idea to split them into sub-folders, as it will help with page-load speed.

ImageHandler also has some nice hover-zoom features, and watermarking features.

    using the army biplane:

http://www.kaleidoscopegalaxy.com/im...armybi_MED.jpg loads correctly as the main product image on the page.
but your additional images aren't named according to the pattern, so it's only picking up the thumnail version of those images.
    These would work better:
    http://www.kaleidoscopegalaxy.com/im..._front_LRG.jpg
    http://www.kaleidoscopegalaxy.com/im...i_left_LRG.jpg
    etc

Hey Dr. Byte, so i am a little (well a lot) confused. From what I was reading about this, I thought that the thumbnails would be ....images/BiPlanes/armybi.jpg, the Medium image, images/medium/BiPlanes/armybi_MED.jpg and then the Large ...images/large/BiPlanes/armybi_LRG.jpg. and that same pattern for each additional photo. (except the medium image only occurs once for the product). I already have the two two examples that you said would work better in the large folder, so I guess I am lost on where they are not communicating. Sorry if I am being dense.

Schoolboy, i thought about using the image handler but was/am determined to get this straight, since i have been trying for hours and hours. Some might call it insanity, however, once I start something I like to see it through and I know the system must work b/c thousands have used it! Plus I will have the satisfaction of saying I got it, finally. If I do not get to the "finally" then the image handler might be closely around the corner!

Image Handler changes the core behaviour... so you no longer even need to bother yourself with this LRG and MED stuff.

We have installed IH into about 200 Zencart sites and have never had issues.

If you are averse to making life easier for yourself, then that's something only you can deal with.

    It's simple:

    /images/BiPlanes/armybi.jpg -- main thumbnail
/images/medium/BiPlanes/armybi_MED.jpg -- med-sized product image for product page
/images/large/BiPlanes/armybi_LRG.jpg -- larger image for "click to enlarge" when clicking on that Medium image on the product page.

/images/BiPlanes/armybi_front.jpg -- thumbnail for additional image
/images/large/BiPlanes/armybi_front_LRG.jpg - large version of additional image
/images/BiPlanes/armybi_left.jpg -- thumbnail for additional image
/images/large/BiPlanes/armybi_left_LRG.jpg - large version of additional image

Yeah, I am a psychotherapist, so I tend not to make things too easy. I over think things way to much! Stubbornness does not help any either But having said that the problem is solved. That does not mean that my next website, which I will be starting as soon as this one is finished, will not be installing your add on. I do like to make my life easier sometimes

Dr. Byte, I was wracking my brain looking at what you wrote b/c that is literally what my folders look like. So I decided to uninstall the Large folder off of the godaddy server and then upload it fresh. Wah lah. Works fine. Have no freaking clue why uploading it again fixed the problem, given the file was exactly the same as the one I erased. Ah what a relief "x" # of hours later. Thanks for the help.

Quick other question do you know if there is a way to set up the pop up images to have a next/previous button like on the product pages themselves?

Yet another case of GoDaddy hosting being a nightmare. Be sure to consider carefully whether their service is really truly appropriate for any sites you're building.

No built-in way. A lightbox addon of some sort might accommodate that for you.
