Default Help with error message after using payment cart

I get this error message after I run a test transaction thru my site.
"There has been an error processing your credit card. Please try again."

I have set up the payment module as both Authorize.net SIM and AIM , following instructions per the tutorials listed here.

Any advice on this error message would be helpful!

    Default ERROR message in checkout

I have a site hosted thru www.hostmylingeriesite.com and am having problems with the payment module.
When someone pays with a credit card it displays an error message on my site, stating the card did not go thru. In actuality tho, the card was charged and I was funded for the order.
How do I get rid of this error message?
Both authorize.net and IAccess (my merchant acct) tell me to contact my site host. When I contact them, they are vague and tell me to post a question here thru zen cart.
Also I do not see any info on the order when a customer does place one.
    Frustrated to say the least!

Thanks for the reply. I inherited this project in it's current state so I am not certian of all the answers.
    We are presently using: v1.3.9h.
I don't believe it has been upgraded.
I don't believe we have any addons installed, how would I determine this?
    We use FTP.
Since I was not part of this project from the set up, I do not know what has been customized other than text and images added to pages.

I have searched the forum and have discovered there are several issues going on here. I will post again once these have been addressed if I still need assistance. Thanks again ever so much for your reply.

Okay...I have now created a Merchant account with Authorize.net, verified the CURL is set up with our hosting provider, and installed authorizenet_aim. With the site in test mode I created a ficticious user account and order. I used the cc info supplied in the Testing Info. On checkout I received the following error (which is the same error that generated all this work in the first place):

Communications Error - Please notify webmaster. - Your credit card could not be authorized for this reason. Please correct the information and try again or contact us for further assistance.

Any assistance with this issue would be greately appreciated.

Never mind...I fixed it...for our webhosting company the cURL Proxy Address field must be left blank.

Indeed, for ALL hosting companies the CURL proxy should be left blank.
