Default Error Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable:

I know. This is a generally asked question as I have googled the question quite a bit and used the search function on your forums for this problem. But i can't seem to find the fix to the problem I am receiving.

Right. I will first say what it is:

    When i go to "Catalogue" -> "Categories/Products"
In the top left hand corner i get an error, shown in the image below:

Now this error wasn't there before when i implemented the template, set up new categories. But all of a sudden it's come.

I havent changed anything in the FTP of the images. I even changed every image directory Chmod via FTP to 777, including all subdirectories too.

Same problem. I have also checked configurations.php
And the directory it points to is correct.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as i'm out of possibilities.

    Cheers!

    Greg

First, is the full path that it mentions actually the REAL path to the images folder?
The error message only appears when the path provided doesn't point to a valid location that's also writable. It doesn't just make it up out of thin air.
If it *did* work fine before without such errors, then you've changed something. Either you've changed the permissions on the folder, or you've pointed it to the wrong folder in your admin's configure.php file, either via an invalid DIR_FS_CATALOG entry or you've gone and manually overridden one of the other constants in that file.

    I found out the issue.

I didn't think about this. But when i made it, I created it with my main hosting account FTP user. But when the friend wanted to modify something i made a new ftp user. Which would have moved everything. But the configure files weren't modified. Had to find the new location etc and edit them accordingly.

    Cheers!

I just noticed that started suddenly get this error in Safari, no permissions in the server changes, no other changes either and one week ago worked perfectly to add product images and update the files with the "define pages editor". After a little over one hour of trying to change the permissions, testing different FTP programs, testing settings like 755, 775 and 777... No change but then suddenly Firefox asked an update and thought to test the site also in it and works perfectly, no permission errors.
Then I looked back with Safari and permission errors are there! Previously I did update also with Safari, no problem. Now suddenly is not working.

This can be solved if you put "private browsing" ON from the Safari menu! It enables the loading function again, and it is not complaining about permissions.

Thus it was a browser cache/cookies issue. Flushing the browser cookies+cache can solve thousands of unexplained mysteries.
