That is a difficult one to answer. Nobody can tell the search engines *what* to index. They have their own algorithms and rules for figuring out what they will include and won't include, or how much of a site they will include. These rules change frequently and are not made public. in addition, there are issues such as the age of the information, the overall importance the search engines have assigned to your site, the crawl frequency the search engines have set for your site, etc. How many pages of your site are indexed, and which pages those are can vary from search engine to search engine and from week to week even in one search engine. On top of that, Google even states that their estimates of the number of pages in a sitemap that are included in the Google index is not always accurate for a variety of reasons.

the purpose of a sitemap generator like this plugin is to give the search engines a list of all the pages you feel are relevant or important on your site so they have one place to look. Search engine spiders may not see all the links on a page for many reasons, and this gives them an additional list so they can see the majority of your site so that they *can* decide what, and how much, to index.

    Thanks.
It seems that there is not much to do about.
It is a pity because I have many reviews and they cold lead to a better positioning.

Yeah, it's complicated. What you can do is make sure that the pages are listed in the XML sitemap for the site, and make sure the pages have good content and valid, search engine (and user) friendly markup, and the search engines will get them indexed.

    Hi There

I am running 1.5.1 and overwrote all the files from our recent 1.3.8a upgrade. All of the files are installed in the correct places however when I force the rebuild the popup screen appears stating the following:

    SiteMapXML (3.2.6 17.06.2012 16:13)
    Categories Sitemap

And that's it! A black file is created in the root of public_html

I have tried several versions to no avail. I am using ultimate seo urls (this was fine in 1.3.8a)

Any ideas , by the way the .htaccess has not been altered.

    Regards
    T

What steps were taken to perform the upgrade from 1.3.8a to 1.5.1?
Did you remove all the obsolete files from version 1.3.8a?
Did you remove all plugins added to 1.3.8a before "overwriting"?
Did you install new plugins compatible with Zen Cart 1.5 after upgrading?
Are there any debug files in "/cache" or "/logs"? Are there any errors in the server log?

Where are the Zen Cart Debug Logs? Where are the HTTP 500 / Server Error Logs?

I am running zencart v 1.3.9f. I have followed all the instructions as directed. After completion when I got the sitemap url which I fed to google, bing... I get this error message:
Error loading stylesheet: An unknown error has occurred (805303f4)http://floridasdying.com/catalog/inc...lt/css/gss.xsl

Also when I tried to "Specifying the Sitemap location in your robots.txt file "
I get this a 404 not found message.

Does this mean that the sitemap is not correctly installed? I followed the directions to the dot. Please let me know.
    THanks,
    Rich

I am not seeing a 404 when I access your sitemap at "/catalog/sitemap.xml"... Did you already get this part sorted?

I also noticed your web server is replying with content-type "text/xml" instead of "application/xml" for XML files. I will not spend a long time going into the differences, but I would recommend having your hosting company change the settings so XML files are served using content-type "application/xml".

Do not worry - you do not file robots.txt. It is not necessary.
