So, basically lets say it like this... I sell miniature gears...

_LRG.jpg = I took a macro photograph of each gear that I have in stock 1000 x 1000 px original size.

_MED.gif = I cut/crop an outline drawing out of the scan of the mfg catalog page for each gear (that has tech specs gear count size text with it). 450x450 original size.

small image is the _MED gif reduced to 150x150. Still very readable.

All files have same name, but with the _MED or _LRG.

All 3 image files are uploaded into their correct folders.

So basically you are saying that Image Handler 4 can be set up so that for gear100-35 with the images gear100-35.gif, gear100-35_MED.gif, and gear100-35_LRG.jpg uploaded,

I can specify .gif for small images and have in the images folder gear100-35.gif

and set up gif setting also for medium images for gear100-35_MED.gif in images/medium

and set up jpg for all large images for gear100-35_LRG.jpg in images/large

and when I am on the product page and click on the medium size image, it will bring up the popup with gear100-35_LRG.jpg? Basically with the settings set up in a way, it will look for the file names. It's not going to look to create a medium nor create a small image based off reducing the _LRG image?

It's almost like I have multiple images in the way that the _LRG image is different than the _MED or small image, but I basically don't want multiple images, just an actual photograph for the _LRG image in place of the clipart-like-ish medium and small images.

Not to be a stickler here.. but you really should ask Image Handler questions on the Image Handler support thread.. any further discussion on this is a LOT off topic from what this thread is supposed to be about.. Please repost your question on the Image Handler support thread..

    Image Handler will let you:
Upload ONE image and generate the optimized small, medium, and large image from the image you upload. (this is how MOST folks use it)
    or
upload three different images for the small, medium, and large image

Image Handler doesn't really care WHERE in the images folder you upload the image which allows you the flexibility of organizing your images in a way that makes sense to you. In otherwords you are NOT constrained by the medium and large folders as in the stock Zen Cart config. You also DO NOT have to name your images with the _LRG or _MED suffixes..

In the settings you can explicity say what format each image size is. (large = PNG, medium=GIF, small=JPG). It will convert the file you upload to the format you designate. The default is "no_change" meaning just that "do not change the format upon upload".

Truly the ONLY way to see how this all works is to install it and TRY IT..

Thanks for the explanation of some of the features and flexibility of IH4, BUT I'm really not looking for a ton of features, nor lots of flexibility, nor something that can meet all different needs for a variety of situations within my store.

My graphics editor, and myself already made everything (as stated above), and if I absolutely-have-to do a batch convert/edit, it's just a simple button click... so little of work...

I just have 1 apparently-not-so-simple need, and basically if I read closely your reply, you are saying basically..

    NO, it cannot.

Posted this in the other thread too..

Actually I was saying that Image Handler can meet your needs. You think the module is too much for your needs.. You have a not so simple need for which the simple solution is installing Image Handler.. My guess is that no one has provided you the code you are looking for because Image Handler already does what you are asking after, and noone wants to reinvent the wheel (especially for free).. If you don't want to install Image Handler, and no one contributes the code you want, then your other option is to hire someone to write the code you do need..
