No Download Links Provided to Customers When Checking Out

Hi,

This is my first post on the Zen Cart Forum!

I installed Zen Cart v1.5.1 around a week ago via my host GoDaddy's CPanel interface and I've configured the PayPal Express Checkout payment module accordingly. I've double-checked the API signature details and they are correct. I have no other plugins or modules installed. I'm using the Classic Template (for now). PHP version 5.2.17. SQL Database version 5.0.19, SQL API version 5.5.19. The site URL is www.QualityWPThemes.com.

I have a couple of test products and one real product at the moment. The problem is when I add a product (in this case it was Affiliate Marketing Kickstart) to my shopping cart (as a test customer) - it goes through the motions of processing the order taking you to PayPal and then back again but at no stage are any download links provided so there is seemingly no way for the customer to download her product. Although that said, on the item description page for Affiliate Marketing Kickstart there is a line at the bottom which reads "For more information, please visit this product's webpage". This link will actually take you to the download link for the product itself! This URL is the same as entered when setting up the product in the Admin area - near the bottom in the field called "Products URL - without http://". This URL is the product's download link on Amazon S3.

Nick, I have 2 comments to make (at this stage):

One/ Your 1.5.1 installation should run with your server configuration (it is the barest minimum for 1.5.1), but the ZC docs state

RECOMMENDED server capabilities:

• PHP 5.3.5 or higher
• Apache 2.0 or higher
• MySQL 5.0.90 or higher
• and the Apache/PHP configuration settings mentioned above.

Two/ Good Luck with GoDaddy.....

Other than that, if your products have been configured correctly as downloadable virtual products then there should be a download link after completion of checkout. I suggest you search the forums for downloadable products (or similar), the subject has been discussed here previously. Also check the 'similar threads' at the bottom of this page.

Product is Virtual: No, Shipping Address Required

Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules

The above settings are what they are set to currently and I changed it from Product is Virtual: Yes, Skip Shipping Address and Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules. Although I have tried a few combinations to be fair. So, as per the ZEN Manual for digital items, these are the settings one should have.

Is there an attribute that has to be assigned to digital products so that Zen knows it's a virtual item? Is that why no download links are supplied? I also have the Free Shipping module installed and enabled (set to True).

On the server front, the PHP version looks to be way behind but SQL appears OK. Might have a chat with GoDaddy to see if I can twist their arm into upgrading their version of PHP (not that's necessarily the root cause).

Hi Frank et al,

I've progressed a bit further - I now receive an email confirmation along with an entry in the Admin Backend under Customers > PayPal IPN. So whereas before it said "Pending" under the Payment Status it now says "Completed". To achieve this I had to change the Payment Receiving Preferences in PayPal from Manual to Automatic. Unfortunately, there is still no sign of a download link to the product ordered. I've taken a peek in the Email section under Configuration > Email Options but nothing's really standing out. Unless someone has any other ideas? I'm still thinking this has to be something pretty basic and I've just missed it somehow.

Hi guys,

I've progressed a bit further with this issue, ie two more hurdles have been overcome.

1. The first one was getting the shopping cart to recognise that a product existed in the first place and this was all achieved in the Attributes Controller in the Admin backend.

2. The second challenge was to get the Account to display a Download button after completing checkout. This was achieved by linking both a Option Name AND an option value to the product. The mistake I made initially was that I only had one of them linked to the product. This was all done in the Catalog > Option Name Manager and Catalog > Option Value Manager.

The current challenge is I am receiving "Forbidden 403" errors when I attempt to download the product in my account. It is also doing something very strange in that when I click on the download button, it generates a fresh directory, which of course generates a 404 error as well as the product does not exist in that folder.

We'll get there in the end!

PS I called my Host (GoDaddy) to see if they could be of assistance and they couldn't have sounded less interested if they tried. I was not impressed at all. On previous occasions they have been helpful, but perhaps they have got too big a corporation and morale has gone through the floor.

Check permissions and/or .htaccess file for the downloads folder - should be accessable

As mentioned earlier, GoDaddy is not my cup of tea at all - and I am only one of many.

Hi Frank,

As per your suggestion re checking the .htaccess file that is what sorted the issue. In this file it lists various file extensions such as pdf, wma, mp3, zip etc as being valid for downloading, but my extension is zipx so not valid - if you're not on the list, you're not coming in type of scenario. I simply added this extension to the list and voila!
