Right, that's the UPSXML debug ... but are there any PHP-related errors (like notices) logged?
What's the store's defined country and to which country are you attempting to ship?
Edit: Also, that upsxml log surely had a request portion as well; it would help immensely to know what that was.

no php errors to my knowledge. None show in the logs folder. Shipping Maryland to Maine.
thanks for your patience! When I was stripping that, I saw they had put in MD instead of US. Gads! So now fixed!
