We have a copy of that report. And has been stated MANY times before, the checkout is going to get a rewrite. Until that happens, continuing to comment on it doesn't help.

You seem to think it is easy to just rewrite whole sections of the code and have everything work properly, well- it isn't. Zen Cart is very much like a big spider web where every thread is connected to and affects every other thread.

For now you have the option of using the PayPal Express checkout to save a step or two if the customer already has a PayPal account.
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

I called it No_Account_v-dec-29-06.zip and submitted it to the "Other Modules" section of the downloads, but it is not showing up there yet because it is still waiting for approval. I figured with New Years it would take longer because I'm sure the moderators have lives too. I'm sure we'll hear something soon.

On the contrary, it's a form of torture used to ensure compliance. Resistance is futile. ;-)

Kim, please, whenever you start to write "you seem to think..." stop and start over. You have no idea what people actually think, and you just proved it. I do not think it's easy to write or rewrite code, under any circumstances. I have enormous appreciation for the effort put into Zen Cart so far, by you and others. And the fact that you do it without regular pay is just amazing. Thank you! But...

Expressing our needs -- and yes, chiming in with a "me too" sometimes, is a perfectly legitimate use of these forums. As is offering helpful information, as I tried to do in my post.

Now, as soon as I can get my hands on that contribution I'll give it a go and report back on my success or lack of it.

I personally have found that sometimes on these boards, when you only have the best of intentions and you think you are helping, there are certain people, who shall remain nameless, who think otherwise. I think that is really sad and it honestly makes you not want to help anyone anymore. Fortunately I have met some really kind people who make me feel like my time is not wasted.

To all those that say it cannot be done... it can. Nothing is impossible !! I know someone who has entirely removed the login process, and I was experimenting with it also. So take heart zenners!

    1) To remove login info, look at my site www.dreamofrussia.com and see what I've done. If you make a trial account, please use a name like TEST so I know what's going on.

To find out how I did it, look back through this thread somewhere. You can turn off most of the features through admin, and the rest (like phone number) have to be edited out manually. The files you want to look at are: includes/template_default/templates/tpl_modules_create_account.php (copy it to your template so you dont mess anything up) and then includes/modues/create_account.php and includes/modules/pages/create_account/jscript_form_check.php.

If you get error messages, it's probably something you need to remove from one of the module files. Make sure you make backups before you start so I don't get sued for breaking your shop.

    2) If you want to disable the login proceedure, start by looking at header.php in modules/pages/checkout_confirmation; you can remove the requirement from in there. I don't know how it will react with PayPal, I haven't experimented much, so no guarantees here. Once you have fixed the header.php, edit templates/tpl_shopping_cart.php, find under

    <!--bof shopping cart buttons-->

FILENAME_CHECKOUT_SHIPPING and change it to FILENAME_CHECKOUT_CONFIRMATION

Please note I have NOT really played around with disabling login, so I can't guarantee the above will work. However, I'm sure some of you will work it out and get it working fine.

Have fun! Hope it's clear enough... i've been up about 20 hrs straight

As a Visitor to this and many other Forums plus being a Moderator at another Forum, it is easy for me to see both sides of the coin. Your comments express what many people feel but not everyone is as understanding -- or haven't met the nice people you have.

It is the repetition that beats down Moderators and burnout is a common occurence. Unfortunately, there are about 6 - 10 people that run the whole ZenCart show. Can be a bit tasking sometimes with having to update this site, work on new code, fix problems, and answer the same Forum questions -- from different people -- over and over again. Hopefully, the powers that be will obtain more people; as Moderators, Document Writers, and in other areas, so the load can be spread out a bit more than it is now.

Sometimes, we need to take a deep breath and pause for a moment, before posting a reply. And a little bit of thick skin can go a long way in all kinds of areas.

    Don't worry... be happy.

    Thanks!

I was just about to try another cart.....I went through all the
posts in this threadl....looked gloomy at first, then heated up, mellowed
out, and oila! A new year and at least 2 solutions.
    • to Barnamania for the working solution.....nice site....appears to
be just the kind of scenario we were looking for!
    • to Craftzombie for your time & effort and sharing your method
(maybe a link to your model?).....I'll check it out as well
    • to Rob in Dartmouth & Website Rob for your posts that calmed the waters
      and putting things in perspective.
    • especially to the Dev Team for your time & effort to improve an awesome application....wish we (users) could meet you and look over your shoulders to see how heck you do it!? Also for your help when we
      get stuck.
Hope we will all come to the forum (any forum) with some humility,
humor, and good will towards others.

Cheers & Happy New Year to all!
    Cal

Hi.....I opened up each of the php files above, copied & saved the original
in another folder, but not sure what come next.....I meditated on the code
and the answer didn't jump out at me.

    • are we supposed to delete or edit the files? e.g. comment out the
      relevant code?
    • didn't see where to go in the Admin panel to turn off the features
(looked in the ZC pdf).....is there a tutorial using all the bells & whistles
      in the Admin panel?
    Thanks!

In Admin go to Configuration>Customer Details and you can turn off most of the unwanted log in information. Anything else, as you say, has to be commented out. The script in the "templates" folder controls what the viewer sees; the script in the "modules" folder is running behind to make sure required fields are completed. Just look for clues like "telephone" and comment out that line and see what happens.
