Default need to clone zencart but have old version

OK, here's my situation; I have an existing 1.2.6d cart that is working fine and setup the way I want.

I would like to create a clone of it using a new identical database so I can have a separate cart with different payment module, currency, pricing etc.

What is the most painless way to do this?

I tried using fantastico to do a clean install (1.3.7 cart) and restored a my sql backup into the new database but obviously that won't work as too many things have changed since 1.2.6d.

my host has a cpanel and they did the initial install of the cart on there now (presumably using fantastico).

You will have to obtain the old file set and this can be downloaded at the same location as the current version link on the front "home" page of this site

Why won't it work? I upgraded a 1.2.7 site to 1.3.7 using a similar method to test the changes before changing the live site (link in my sig). The template won't work anymore and you may have to reproduce some of your other settings, but the database should be ok.

Well, that was going to be my next question.

What I tried which didn't work was doing a new install of zencart 1.3.7 using fantastico (into a new folder).

I then tried to restore a mySQL backup (I had backed up from my original zencart database) into the new database and then the cart will not work.

It produces an error; 1054 Unknown column 'startdate' in 'field list'
    in:
[select startdate, counter, session_counter from zen_counter_history where startdate='20070227']

So obviously it is looking for something in the databse that is different to the way the 1.2.6d database is setup.

Soooooooo - what would be the correct way of exporting / importing the contents of the 1.2.6d cart database to the new one?

you would import the old database in and then run the installer again and choose update only. The installer will auto select the updates to run against the old DB to make it current with 1.3.7. There are instructions in the docs folder

edit: not the fantastico installer it should not be used for updates

I exported the db using the export function of phpMyAdmin from my CPanel. I imported it into the new db using the import function. I don't remember rerunning the install to upgrade on the test site, but Mike might be right. I did run the upgrade when I uploaded 1.3.7 to the live site.

Yeah, I have never even seen the other installer of which you speak but have heard it alluded to before.

You'd need to download 1.3.7 from the downloads section of this site and unzip it on your local computer, then upload the zc_install directory to the clone site. I'm not sure how Fantastico does the install. I did it with Fantastico the first time I installed ZC and then came to this forum only to discover that the Fantastico version was outdated, so I ended up downloading the latest version and installing it manually. I've never used Fantastico again for this. If you have access from your webmaster panel, you could see if the zc_install directory is still on the clone site.

Fantastico by default deletes the zc_install directory - so that it then can not be used to re-run the installer

I figured it probably did that, but I wasn't certain. So the 1.3.7 download would have to be unzipped and the zc_install directory uploaded to the site to run it again.
