    Default Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

I'll keep fiddling with it, but I've no idea where to start looking. The cart itself is just about virgin, its not an upgrade except for the db, which I dont think should have any effect. There are a few mods, but the Aust post module is the only truly invasive one, the others are aesthetic like IH2 or the grid mod then theres the the google site map and froogle feeder neither of which overwrite any shop files.

Can u show me the best .htaccess? I've seen a few around and figure that might be the go.

    thanks

    Howdy,

I meant to chime in on this one earlier, but had other things come up. I also had a few show stoppers with it too, in relation to Paypal, not to mention the EZ Pages problems I had and the Non-object error I had to workaround.

When SEO was turned on, PayPal would just come up with a blank screen when you click that link at checkout. The PayPal express just forwarded to the IPN handler.

Also, with the SEO mod installed, I could browse through products, and go through clicking to add products to cart, and at most times only 7 out of 10 of those add to cart clicks would actually make their way to adding the product to the shopping cart.

I also have a few home-brew mods that I have written, a custom search engine routine, and all those died with the rewrite on. I hate doing regex's, and didn't feel like the learning curve to do a URL plugin for them, so I just opted to remove the whole SEO mod.

    My traffic breakdown is:
    In-Person (80%)
    Online Advertising - AdWords/AdBright (19%)
    Search Engines (%1)

So I just figured I'd save myself a headache and ditch the SEO URLs completely.

I already have enough on my plate without adding more. Though I must say I really did like the pretty URLs and category/product names showing up in Sawmill reports.

    Kimsonvu,
Just a note, this will not affect your pagerank. Page rank is determined by links into your site... and can take months before it shows.

It does not (as far as I am aware) make the site much more "crawlable" by the S/E's anymore.

It is worth noting to those who doubt it makes a difference, that Google has SEO friendly URLs, and differnent titles and meta discriptions for each and every page.

Just a thought. If you ditch the module cause it's got problems, why not post the specifics of them at the bug report site so the developer can be working on them between now and when you come back to look? The more feedback the developer gets, the sooner the mod will become stable and reliable.

I had posted the problems that I encountered into the tracker. I think only one or two problems didn't get posted, and that was only because I don't even have the time to gather enough info to post.

All problems aside, its a great mod, but just not for me at this time.

    Default The eternal question

So... I have all but given up on this mod, not cos the mod is deficient (AFAIK) but cos I a) Can't figure the propper settings or b) Have broken something (very likley) that I can't figure out. (I havn't touched much at all) The result being, as mentioned in my posts, the paypal IPN sende the customer to paypals homepage.

Be that as it may, I'd like to reopen the age old discussion: 'Do SEFUs make a differance'.

I know the standard 'not anymore' argument, and I wish I was convinced. I've been playing with my meta tags and notice that the following spider simulator can/does not find any text in the page body without the SEFU mod

    http://tools.summitmedia.co.uk/spider/

This only drops me by 2% acording to the site, but when I go to poodle predictor gritechnologies.com/tools/spider.go It can't even locate any links without it! I expect this is just cos its an old site... but still issues like that are bound to effect the rating arn't they?

Like you rightly pointed out...there are sites doing millions of dollars in sales using Zen Cart without any SEO URL mod installed.

The SEO url makes the most significant improvement for MSN search engine because that engine's is so behind Google and Yahoo and still adopts methods that make SEO url useful. The main SE can easily crawl Zen Cart sites.

Everybody agrees that SEO url looks nice to the customer on your site and it looks likes as well in search results. Even if it doesn't improve your ranking, it will make the search engine crawl less problematic.

All this assumption is based on an installation of production worthy SEO URL NOT a beta version that has bugs and is deemed not production ready even by the author.

IF and when a production version of this mod is release it maybe worth your time but for right now save yourself the headaches unless you're installing it so you can help beta test this mod to make it better.

I reeeally like the pretty urls, to be honest probably moreso than the ranking :)

As for testing, I'd love to figure out my issue but its not urgent.

Is there anyone out there that have this mod working with the following setting:

Paypal Express is installed and enabled.
Default Extension is set to .html
Core: Default: Skip SSL is unchecked

If you have this mod working with the above setting please post a site to see this in action.

    Thanks!
