Just need some advice...

So I installed zen cart about 3 weeks ago...i've been reading up on it every spare chance i get...i followed the set up instructions, changed the chmods, put it in a /catalog directory and started plugging a few products in...

i am sooo frustrated with not understanding this stuff! even my hairstylist today mentioned it was time for a color job...and it's zen cart that's causing it i know!

1. i installed all of the test products, as it suggested i do....now to get rid of those and show only my own, it has been suggested i do a fresh install....which is kind of frustrating of course...but if it has to be done, it does. do i still install it in /catalog? or do i now put it in the main directory...does it matter? and will I have to call the hosting company again to force the chmod changes or will that still apply since they did the changes once before?

2. can someone explain the sorting to me? for some reason it just isn't clicking in my brain....

sorry to be a pain, i just want to make sure before going through the whole reinstall/setup/etc fun stuff that i don't screw it up and have to do it all over - again!

No need to reinstall...just login as admin, and deactivate all the demo categories. This will also deactivate demo products.. then you can start entering your own categories and products, but still have demo entries to refer to..

Login as admin, choose categories, then
categories/products...look to right... status button,
click for each category, and confirm off/disable.

so when i first installed the cart, i changed some of the category names to what i wanted them to be...so should i keep those or just deactivate everything and then start over with new categories? and should i delete them after deactivating?

And did you change name/s of zendemo products associated
with those categories?
Whatever suits/easiest for you..if you think you may be confused,
then disable all, start again. Alternative, as per your initial post, is
to reinstall brand new zencart, and start from scratch,

i didn't..the products are still in there...just now i have products like CD's under my antenna's category...lol....so i was originally trying to delete all the products, then put my products in...then i panicked about the "linked" products and the warnings they give you before you delete them...i'll try disabling, and see if that works ok, if not, i'll do the reinstall and just bite the bullet....
