    Default Re: Google SitemapAdmin

I've had this mod installed for a while now and it has been all good. Now I am receiving the following Parsing error:
We were unable to read your Sitemap. It may contain an entry we are unable to recognize. Please validate your Sitemap before resubmitting.
    for both sitemapindex.xml and sitemapezpages.xml.

Any ideas how I can address this?

    Thanks

    Hi

When I try to generate sitemaps I get the following error:

Warning: fopen(/home/toolsand/public_html/sitemapproducts.xml) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/toolsand/public_html/googlesitemap.php on line 221
ERROR: Google Product Sitemap Generation FAILED!

Warning: fopen(/home/toolsand/public_html/sitemapcategories.xml) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/toolsand/public_html/googlesitemap.php on line 221
ERROR: Google Category Sitemap Generation FAILED!

Warning: fopen(/home/toolsand/public_html/sitemapindex.xml) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/toolsand/public_html/googlesitemap.php on line 221
ERROR: Google Sitemap Index Generation FAILED!

Using Zen-Cart version 1.3.7. All this was set up a while ago by someone else, but no sitemaps have been created.

googlesitemap.php says version 1.2 on line 16, if that's the right thing, and it was added on 20/6/2007. I tried CHMODing that file to 777 in case that was what was meant, and it doesn't work.

I see several references throughout the thread to setting the permissions of the xml files to 777. It seems the xml files aren't actually being created at all, however, so I can't CHMOD them.

    Can anyone help?

    Cheers

    Pete

Never Mind - I've solved my own problem. I created empty files with those filenames and permissions and uploaded them, and then ran the sitemap mod. Everything worked fine. Was I meant to do this all along (in which case I must have missed that bit), or was something not right?

    So, I'm kind of stuck...
If you look at this picture, I installed everything INSIDE the "YOUR_ADMIN" folder, into my "/admin/" directory. My first question is where do the other files in this picture go? Or do they go anywhere? Reason I ask is (besides the instructions not being the best) because I have "google XML sitemap" in my admin>tools and in admin>configuration. But when I go to admin>tools>google xml sitemap>step 1 and click "here" to create or edit your sitemap (a blank popup window) comes up. Same thing with step 2, if I try to "send" (a blank popup window) comes up...

Did I not install the sql patch correctly? I pasted it into the query form and hit send like I *think* the instructions told me to. Again, I didn't install the XML files in this picture anywhere because the instructions in the install.txt aren't the greatest. I only installed everything from the YOUR_ADMIN folder...

    any help would be appreciated

    Im kind of stuck aswell..

for the files as asked by zbargain i assumed they where meant for the root.. I did put every file in, and since im using swedish language-pack i copied the files in the english folder to the swedish one.

First i could not even click the tools/Google XML Sitemap without getting an "internal error". But then all of a sudden i can get in to the "Google XML Sitemap Admin" but there i only get internal error again when i click the step 1 to create a sitemap..

i did change permissions on the 4 xml-files to 777.

If you have the menu items for google sitemaps in the admin area I'd assume the SQL patch installed correctly.

The rest of the files are to go into the root directory. This mod will not work without them. After you copy the files into there - you may need to change the permissions on the 4 .xml files. (before resorting to using 777 see if it works as is after just copying the files into the root directory)

To answer myself. Just sit back, relax and all will be ok..

thats what i did, and all of a sudden it worked. Without me changing anything at all. This is a spooky mod, but in the end worked just fine.

also google cant seem to find the maps on my server even though im telling it exactally where it is.

maybe this mod might only work with zencart that are in the root and not a seportate foulder

    You have the wrong location...

You sitemaps are located here (which will work if you are only including urls inside of /store/):
    http://www.rubberduckbathrooms.co.uk...temapindex.xml
but I like to put mine here (root):
    http://www.rubberduckbathrooms.co.uk/sitemapindex.xml

Since Google is the big one it's best to follow their directions:
"Upload your Sitemap to your site in the highest level directory you want search engines to crawl, generally the root. If you list URLs in your Sitemap that are at a higher level than your Sitemap location, Google will be unable to include those URLs as part of the Sitemap submission."

    Thanks Scott,
I uploaded all 6 files to the root. Everything seems to have worked being set at 644 . Well everything except the Yahoo submission, but I'm 99% sure that I'm not setup to do anything with Yahoo. (doing this as I type; seems to have worked, waiting for the crawl).

Anybody know how to do MSN. I read this in the Tools>Google Sitemap Admin
What should be in the robots.txt file & how do I specify the sitemap location in my robots.txt file? I don't have a robots.txt file (I don't think; not in my root dir anyways).

    thanks in advance,
    Lenny
