I sell Jewelry. I have many items where there are several attributes, each one contributing to the final price. Let's take wedding bands as a 'for instance'.
Attributes would be:
Size (5-12, sizes 6 and higher have an upcharge)
Width (2mm - 12mm, 3mm and up has an upcharge)
Metal (Stainless Steel, Titanium, 10K White, 10K Yellow, 14K White, 14K Yellow, 18K White, 18K Yellow, Platinum - each different metal type defines the BASE PRICE)
So, ideally I would like to have the customer select metal type, size and width and have a price displayed. When Gold or Silver or Platinum goes up or down (as it frequently does) I would like to be able to change the metal base price and then all the other attributes adjust (based on a percentage of the base) the final price. So it might go like this (example):
Milgrain Band base price (based on size 5, 2mm)
customer selects 14K Yellow Gold ($52.00 fixed price)
customer selects size 7 (2% upcharge) 1.04
customer selects 4mm width (40% upcharge) 20.80
Total price $73.84
As it is right now, I have fixed amounts in the attributes so when the price of a metal changes I have to update ALL the attributes, since the cost of the metal affects all levels of upcharges.
Since I only have a modest markup on Jewelry, I have to run a tight ship and could easily sell things for below my cost when Gold spikes.
On the other hand, if I only had to update the metals prices and the other attributes were fixed percentages (which they essentially are anyway) based upon the metal price it would save me a TON of time and hassle.
I thought I had this figured out, but it wasn't working out right. If this CAN be done, PLEASE give me a stupid-simple primer on just how to do it.
Thanks a bunch.
