Default Limit the max order total...?

    Hello,

I am trying to figure out if there is any way at all to limit the maximum amount a person can purchase in the store.

If the order total is over $5,000 the customer would need to contact the store owners to complete their order.

Does anyone know if this can be done?

(And before anyone asks why.. lol.. the owners have major concerns of someone ordering large amounts of merchandise to resell it and them not being able to keep up with the orders.)

    Yes... this should be possible.

There is a module that Andrew Berezin wrote called "Minimum Order" that does the opposite - it does not allow shoppers to proceed to checkout if the cart value is LESS than a stated amount.

I'm sure that with a bit of tweaking, you could get this module to prevent shoppers going to checkout if the cart value is MORE than a stated amount.

To see the Minimum Order module in action, go to:

www edutrade . co . uk

and put something into the shopping cart with a value of LESS than £8.00

... In fact, I'm going to have a go at adapting that Minimum Order Value Module to create a Maximum Order Value Module.

I'll return to this thread later...

Just a suggestion - By not allowing the large order to checkout - you could lose the sale - Wouldn't it be better to have a flag on the order so the Shop Owner contacts the customer ASAP?

OK... I tweaked the Minimum Order Module to now be a Maximum Order Module...

... I'm busy testing, but it seems to work OK.

NB: Pay attention to what Kim says... I have, and to see the TEST MODULE in operation, go

    HERE

... and add 51 of these products (£100 each) to the cart.

... then UPDATE the cart to 49 products (£100 each) to the cart

:) That module does do what you say it will, but from a customer experience standpoint -

I put 51 widgets in my cart and I can't proceed - I'm packing up my Credit Card and going home. I am not going to think "what if I try 49?" (Unless I am a 'bad guy' and the order is shady anyway)

    JMHO.

That's just awesome! I can't believe you were able to get that to work so fast!! That is exactly what I was needing to get it to do!

And Kim... I agree completely... and I've told them that repeatedly, but you know how people can be about things sometimes. I doubt they'll see many orders over $5,000 USD anyway... they're selling copier and printer cartridges and toner.

Ok, I've tested this and it does not appear to have conflicts.

    However...

I cannot take responsibility for any conflicts it may have on your site.

Anyone using it does so at their own risk.

I will zip up the module later and post that zip file on this thread. (be about an hour or two).

I will also submit the module to the Free Software Add-ons for consideration of inclusion.

    LittleOleMeDesigns...

Kim makes a valuable observation, and while I appreciate what your client may be saying, I feel you ought to alert them to the potential for losing what could be a really good sale!

Do they REALLY need this restriction????

(I will continue with the mod, as I've promised it to you already)

Also, a lot will depend on the TEXT of your ALERT MESSAGE. So give this a lot of thought when you edit the relevant languages file.
