I'm getting the same error message. Thanks for posting up that you called PayPal and they resolved the issue on their end -- I probably would have spent several more days trying to figure out what I did wrong! I will call PayPal tomorrow.
Having spent a few hours on the phone with PayPal today, it is not exactly as easy as a quick phone call. More or less what the error means is that your paypal account is not set up for website payments pro. The Pro method where you can take credit card directly on the store site with out refering the customer to a paypal page, is part of the $30 a month service. In order for this payment method to work the paid service must be set up.

I'm having the same problem, I wonder if it's a PayPal issue as well. Should I call them to them check their settings?
FYI:
- I'm signed up and paying for PayPal Pro
- The account with PayPal Pro is verified
- I've setup the PayPal Pro & Express Checkout modules in Zen Cart
- I've checked and the API Signature username/password/code are all correct
- my host has verified that the cURL is active
Is there anything else that I should check before I call them?
Thanks
What exactly is the error message you're seeing, and where are you seeing it displayed, and how do you make it display?

I'm getting the s10501 Invalid Configuration error as the original poster. It happens at the very end when I try to confirm the purchase.
You can see the error on this screenshot

Then you'll need to work with PayPal to get your 'invalid merchant configuration' fixed.

That's where I'm going next, thanks
