Easy Populate cvs file questions

I am still having problems with this. What kind of file should we be using for EP? Should we use excel, cvs with tabs delimited-which ends up being a text file on Windows, I also can make cvs (ms dos) file or cvs (macintosh). Also do we have to use all the headers if there is nothing that is going in that column? I so far am only getting information from the header, and not data when I upload and then download the files.

Can someone explain what I am doing wrong, I have read the documentation in the wiki, I am using EP_v1.2.5.4, I am on a windows 7 platform for my computer, but host is GoDaddy and using Linux platform.

I read it again and try every version of cvs and or text file available and each only give me the header line once I upload, then download.

Easy Populate will work if the TAB DELIMITED TEXT FILE is properly configured.

IF:-

1. You have installed EP correctly

and

2. Your TAB DELIMITED TEXT FILE is properly configured ...

... then easy populate will work.

What PROGRAM are you using to create your TAB DELIMITED TEXT file.

NB: There is no such file format as cvs ...
If you are referring to CSV (COMMA SEPARATED VALUES)... EP 1.2.5.4 will NOT work if the separators are COMMAS... These separators (field delimiters) have to be TABS.

Sorry had to get a few hours sleep been up all night with this.

I think it is installed correctly, attahced in a screen shot of what is intalled:

I am using text (tab deliminted) to convert the file. I have EOREOR at the end of each row.


I also will try what you stated, but I thought this was correct.

May I suggest that you try Apsona ShopAdmin? It's a free tool, and IMHO it makes imports and updates much easier than Easy Populate.

Schoolboy before I try something different, I would like to see if I can get EP to work. Did the information I posted help you to understand what I possibly am doing wrong?

We don't actually know what you are doing, so please provide a detailed, understandable and cohesive explanation of what you are doing - STEP BY STEP - in your efforts to insert data via EP.

I ftp the companies excel spreadsheet to my computer. I change the headings to be v_products_model, etc., I delete any columns not needed, I add columns needed like v_date_avail, v_manufacturers, etc. The I save the file as a text - tab delimited. I logon to my host and upload the file via eps in the top upload right beside insert into database. Then I do a
Create Complete tab-delimited .txt file in temp dir (Attributes Not Included)

When I view this file nothing but the header is included in the file.

Read my WIKI to see what columns are MANDATORY

THE NEXT STEP AT THIS POINT is to clikc the button that says: "Insert into db"

Then I do a
Create Complete tab-delimited .txt file in temp dir (Attributes Not Included)

This step is when you want to do a DUMP of your existing products. This has nothing to do with ADDING PRODUCTS... it is the link you click when you want to get a full txt file of products that are ALREADY in the database.

When I view this file nothing but the header is included in the file.
