    Default moving categories glitch??

    Hello all,

I've used the 'Move' function in Zen Cart admin to move a category.
My question... Why are both categories still viewable via a web browser?

    Old Category
    http://www.kcbgraphics.com/index.php...&cPath=11_5_34

    New Category
    http://www.kcbgraphics.com/index.php...ex&cPath=11_34

In my admin the old category isn't there.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

    It looks like you have:

1 Categories and Products mixed in the same Category

2 Missing master_categories_id from the Products

    3 Combination of both

There is only products in this category as far as I can see.

All of the products have an ID# in the left column.

    I moved this category from:

    Signs and Banners
    _Outdoor Signs
    __Vinyl Banners

    to

    Signs and Banners
    _Vinyl Banners

Could it be caused by moving it across two sub categories?

    It shouldn't ...

You need to check the master_categories_id on the products ...

Also check the products_to_categories table and see what products_id are in the two categories_id ...

Again, you should not have Products and Categories inside of a Category ... a Category holds 1 or the other ...

What version of Zen Cart are you using?

    Thanks for the reply,

When I check the tables you mention what exactly am I looking for and how would I correct the issue?

I moved the category back to its original location and the reverse happens. The path to the new location is still accessible via browser but in the admin it doesn't exist.

    A week ago I upgraded to 139d.
I notice in the bugfix list for 139a it mentions....

-Fix category look up to use master_categories_id
-Fix categories name lookup based on product master_categories_id vs random categories_id from products_to_categories

Could it be connected to this?

It could be, but that means you would have missed the corrected file(s) in both upgrading to v1.3.9a and v1.3.9d ...

    Do you use Linked Products?

What categories_id are the Products in right now? It appears that they are in categories_id 34 ...

If you look in categories_id 34 of your Zen Cart Admin ...

Signs and Banners :: Vinyl Banners

To you see Categories and Products?

The upgrade wasn't done by me. I do notice not all of the files have changed. Do you know which file would be related to this issue?

In Zen Admin they're all in Category_id 34. I also confirmed that's the case in phpMyadmin.

While I can manually type the wrong path by changing the cPath in the URL, I do not see where there is a link produced to generate both links ...

Are you only able to get to the incorrect link by manually changing the URL or is this link being generated somewhere on your site?

Example: I can manually make any URL manually for any Category and get results, providing the ending categories_id on the cPath is valid:
    /index.php?main_page=index&cPath=8_34

I still get the products in categories_id 34

Even something like this would work:
    index.php?main_page=index&cPath=9999_34

It is not correct, but it will produce the results of categories_id 34 Products ...

    Hi Ajeh,

The category for vinyl banners does not contain linked products.

I can type cPath=anynumber_34 and get to that category. I can do that to any category and it works. That being said can I just ignore this issue and move my categories and do my 301 redirects??

I discovered this when I moved the category went to Google found the old link and clicked on it. It took me to the old page location without any error.

Correct ... there is nothing "forcing" the cPath to be correct when manually changing the URL or coming in on an old URL ...

So if you have redirects for this you can apply them ...
