Who's Online showing multiple entries for my own IP

Since installing my zen cart my who's online count increases everytime I refresh my screen. When I check my admin who's online it shows my ip address so I know that it isnt anyone trying to hack in. I am sure it is something that I should have set when I was setting up my store. I have seen similar issues on a couple of other 'newish' zen cart stores but not all which is why I am certain that I need to set something. I have been looking through all the tutorials and this forum for information on what to set for a couple of months now and have still come up blank...hence my post. Please help before I go greyer than I am already :blink:.

Which count is it that you see increasing?

The count in the Who's Online sidebox ...

The count on the Admin home page ...

The count in the Admin Tools ... Who's Online ...

I cannot reproduce any errors in any of these ...

NOTE: the counts on the Admin Home page show both the number of users and the hits for the session ... the hits for the session will increase with each page change or refresh ...

On the shop front home page here it increases the whos online count each time you refresh the page. When I check in the admin who's online it shows the ip addresses and how many repeats of the ip address. So for instance, if I go to my home page (store front) it shows 1 guest online. If I refresh the page it shows 2 guests online and increases by one each time I refresh the page.
I have been to other zen stores and done the same thing and the number doesnt increase so it has to be my store.

Thanks for your message. I just asked a friend in Canada (I'm in the UK) to check and refresh and the count increased by one every time she refreshed her screen. So, its not me or my browser.

I get no change in the count when refreshing, whether or not I have javascript enabled for the site.

This is just the weirdest thing then and I guess I'll just have to live with it irksome as it is. I can visit other zen stores and the count doesnt increase when I refresh ....My store and one other, that I can remember, does. I hate being flummoxed and not be able to find a solution to a problem albeit as niggly as this is.

Have you cleared your browser's cache and cookies?

What browser are you using?

Are you just navigating by clicking links or are you opening new tabs, browser sessions?

Yes, I have cleared my browser and cache. I did all these things before I posted my query as I explored all the avenues I could first.

As you can see this isnt just happening on my computer. It is the same on my husband's and it happened with a friend who lives in Canada.

If I go from product to product the count doesnt increase. It only increases when I go back to the home page OR if I stay on the home page and just refresh that page.

As previously mentioned, it doesnt happen if I go to other ZEN stores (apart from one other new store) so I cant see how it has anything to do with my browser or cache.

I am also now on the very latest Zen version.

No matter what I do on your site, the who's online sidebox always reads 1 guest ...

This is rather puzzling ...

What do you see in your Zen Cart Admin under the Tools ... Who's Online ...

It sure is a pity that someone in the Zen forum is unable to see what I see on my site.

It is puzzling to say the least!

Right now in my admin I see this IP address ** REMOVED BY MODERATOR *** and it says 1 customer online.

I just visited my site after my reply to ajeh and the count increased to 2 online in the front page and in my admin.
I then clicked through to the site from the link in my admin and the count increased to 3.

Admin says 3 customers online
duplicate IP addresses 2
Total Unique vistors 2

Even though I have now left my site the admin still has me showing.

Am I using the correct terminology?

You will continue to show until the site is visited again and the timeout for the who's online of 15 minutes of inactivity happens has occurred to clear it out ...

Go to your Admin and go to the Tools ... Who's Online ...

Check it periodically until it clears out all of your references ...

Open a new browser window and go to your home page ... how many guests are in the who's online sidebox? Look at the Admin Who's online and refresh it ... how many of you are there?

Click on a Category ... how many guests are in the who's online sidebox? Look at the Admin Who's online and refresh it ... how many of you are there?

Click on the All Products link ... how many guests are in the who's online sidebox? Look at the Admin Who's online and refresh it ... how many of you are there?

Click on the New Products link ... how many guests are in the who's online sidebox? Look at the Admin Who's online and refresh it ... how many of you are there?

In all your duplicates, what's the session id?
If the session id is different, then it's gonna show a new entry for each different session id, until the old session times out, as Ajeh mentioned above.

I noticed that the list cleared after 9 minutes for each guest and not 15 as per your message Ajeh.

When you go to your site, are you using a book mark or typing your URL into the browser?

What are your settings in the Configuration ... Sessions ...

I normally use a bookmark but I've tried both the bookmark and typing the url in. I also clicked on a link in the admin who's online to take me to the store and that increased the count too.

Sessions Settings are as follows:
Session Directory points to my folders cache
Cookie Domain = true
Force Cookie Use = false
Check ssl session id = false
Check user agent = false
Check ip address = false
Prevent spider sessions = true
Recreate session = true
IP to host Conversion Status = true

This really doesn't make sense ... as you may have noticed ...

What browser are you using and operating system on your computer?

I think we are just going round in circles here as I've already explained that this has only happened in one other zen store apart from my own. Both are fairly new stores.

This does not happen if I visit other zen stores apart from one other mentioned above.

If this happens when my Canadian friend visits my site and also from my husbands computer I dont think this has anything to do with my browser or operating system.

I am not going to pursue this any longer. It will forever remain a mystery. I thought it would be some simple setting that I hadnt made when I set up my store.

The only difference I can see is that my store is set to go direct to the store and not www.nameofstore/store as most others I see. What bearing that may have on the count is beyond me but stranger things have happened.

I have just visited 8 other zen cart stores and the count does not increase when I refresh my screen on these stores.
