My website takes so much time to upload!

My customers are suffering from the uploading time of my website as I checked it with my Hosting server in the US and they said that from our side it doesn't take so much time to upload! I don't know if that would make sense! as I live the Netherlands and my server is in US, would that be the reason for that delay ? Do I need to find another server in my country ? is there something wrong with my zencart ?

Thanks kim for your replay, So do you recommend to optimize my website images and files.. ? I will try to start doing this but I have seen so many zencart websites which are bigger than mine and contain allot more images and categories and still they load in less than 3 seconds!! How come that?!! while my zen-cart takes sometimes from 20-30 seconds to load my homepage or any product page! :frusty:
