How many products can ZenCart support?

Is there a limit to the number of products that ZenCart can handle? Is there a limit to the data base size? Are there other limits?

Right now I have a little over 3000 products and approximately 9000 links. By next Spring, I plan to have about 25,000 to 35,000 products with possibly four times that many links on my website. I want to make sure that my store will not implode because I have exceeded an unrecognized limit in capabilities.

Zen Cart should be able to handle that. Your hosting service has more to do/say about the size of the database than Zen Cart.

There are Zen Carts running several hundred thousand products. Obviously when you get that big you need to make sure things are optimized for speed.

One thing that can slow down a large cart is multiple attributes. People with 20-50 attributes per product have reported speed issues.

Version 1.4, due out this year at last report, is supposed to be significantly faster than the current version.

Can you give a URL for one or two of these larger sites?

Sorry, I don't personally know which sites they are.
You might search for terms related to large sites/lots of products, etc...

One of the largest most highly customized sites I know is lasermonks dot com - They have been using Zen Cart since its very early days and have 1000's and 1000's of items.

If you have that much products, you will probably need a dedicated server. And then do as much optimization as possible. For instance, current version of zencart uses a lot of queries to create a category tree, there are free modules to help fix this problem. Of course the new version 1.4 which hopefully will come soon will fix most of these problems as well.
