Trying to put a 700MB file up for digital download

Hey guys. I posted on another forum that I want to help my friends in a music group sell their tour video digitally on their site. Everyone recommended Zen Cart. Within a few days, thanks to the incredible documentation here, I have my shop set up. But I can't get to the point of just hosting the video.

We are using DreamHost, frankly because I've never had a problem with them and have never had bandwidth issues with them, despite the site hosting 70+ mp3s and 20+ videos that get a lot of downloads (free of course for the visitors). We're trying to make a bit of money back, just asking $10 for a digital download of an over hour long professionally shot concert and backstage footage.

The problem is I can't even get the video on DreamHost! Last night before bed I uploaded the 700MB avi file, only to wake up at it like 39% done. Figuring it was just awful upload speeds, I came home from work to find it down to 20% done uploading. It appears that at like 90% I am automatically disconnected and the file never resumes; it goes back to square one.

I was really hoping to go this route because the band really wants to get some money together to fund other projects; Paypal being the biggest chunk of money we were willing to lose. I'm hoping this problem can be answered by you guys, especially if DreamHost isn't feasable but we figure we're already paying for bandwidth, we should utilize it.

Is there another way I can get this file online so I can use it for my Zen Cart? Thanks a million in advance; this software looks amazing so far.

Re: Trying to put a 700MB file up for digital download

Using FTP (or SFTP if you have shell access to your hosting account) is generally the best approach. Has the hosting company given any indication about why the upload might be quitting?

Oh I am of course using FTP (FlashFXP to be exact) and I tried CuteFTP too. I tried contacting them but have not gotten a response yet.

By shell access, I assume you mean uploading via web browser in the site's control panel? I tried that but it only allows 40MB max or so.

Shell access would be SSH access via a telnet session, essentially giving you command-line control of the server with respect to your hosting account. Often the hosting company requires that you ask for such access specifically and sometimes asks for ID before granting it.
