PayPal Website Payments Pro Canada is here!

Good news!

PayPal Website Payments Pro is now available in Canada!

Transaction fees should be the same as PayPal IPN or Express Checkout, but you get the following advantages:

• You can accept credit cards without PayPal name anywhere - some people like PayPal, others hate it. Those who like PayPal can use the Express Checkout, while those who hate it can use credit cards without the "Sign up for PayPal" hassle.

• The buyer never leaves your website, which increases customer trust and reduces the number of abandoned carts.
• PayPal IPN issues like stuck transactions (where payment goes through but your store never will be a thing of the past.

You also get Virtual Terminal included in the package, so you can accept credit cards over the phone without a physical terminal.

The big question is: can anyone confirm that Zen-cart 1.3.8 will work with this payment gateway "out of the box" or require an additional plugin and / or patch?

It should work without errors. However, it will not support the FMF or RB features which PayPal allows you to add to your account.
So, as long as you use it for processing credit cards just like a regular gateway, you should be just fine.

I have been struggling wih the limitations of Pay Pal Express for months, and was ready to give up, when suddenly I found that Website Pro is now available in Canada.

I applied months ago to be a beta site but never did hear back from them. I have installed this and am testing now. So far so good but it is early.

I am trying to remove the "Check Out with Pay Pal" button that was added to my Shopping Cart page...i can not find a setting to remove this. Any ideas where this can be edited? I don't mind the payment option for Pay Pal as some people do like to use their service...just don't want customers by passing the credit card page by clicking on the checkout by Pay Pal button.

Paypal is finally offering Website Payment Pro to Canadian based stores.

It installs in Zen Cart fine and worked on first test! :D You must leave Express Checkout active as part of the deal but it is much less "in your face".

This has been a long time coming - now you can complete the payment process without having your customer leave your site.

This is a great improvement - it is so much more professional looking.

I was losing business by not having an "easy to use" payment option...they could pay by credit card but the link on the PayPal site was so obscure no one could find it! :censored:

This new PayPal service is $35 / Month but well worth it (no I am not getting a commission). :no:

it includes Virtual Terminal, so you can process payments manually if you do not want to process through your own website - trade shows or workshops might be an example of using this...

Good luck, I was ready to give up on Paypal and go to a commercial payment processor but this seems like a great deal.

You CAN remove the "Checkout with PayPal" button, but by doing so you would be violating PayPal's Terms of Use (which you agreed to when you signed up for Website Payments Pro). It's hard to say if or how PayPal may enforce the terms of this agreement, but if they restrict or terminate your account, then what are you going to do?

In order to use Website Payments Pro you must integrate Express Checkout.

In my opinion, it's actually not a good idea to disable Express Checkout because it offers PayPal account holders a fast "3 click" checkout in your store, which is a good thing as many sales are lost when buyers see yet another "Register / Create new account " form. Buyers who don't like PayPal can click on "Go Checkout" button instead and they'll be able to pay with Visa or Mastercard on your website without seeing the PayPal name anywhere. To make it even better, you can probably edit the "Go Checkout" button image (/includes/templates/template_default/buttons/english/button_checkout.gif) to include a Visa and Mastercard logo to show your potential buyers that they can pay with their credit cards instead of PayPal.

If you are absolutely sure you want to disable Express Checkout, here is how to do it:

Backup original versions and then edit the following 2 files located at /includes/templates/template_default/templates/

1. tpl_login_default.php (removes PayPal from Shopping Cart Page)
2. tpl_shopping_cart_default.php (removes PayPal from Login / New Customers page)

Look for and remove everything between these lines:

<?php // ** BEGIN PAYPAL EXPRESS CHECKOUT ** ?>

and

<?php // ** END PAYPAL EXPRESS CHECKOUT ** ?>

Note that PayPal will still show up as one of the payment methods during checkout (Step 2 of 3 - Payment Information)

Good point...I was thinking I just needed to leave the link to go to the Pay Pal payment page...just above the box where they enter the credit card info. Was not thinking that the Checkout Box was a requirement.

Would not want to be cut off so will grin and bear it...struggled this long with a much worse situation.

I've just signed up for Payments Pro Canada and have set it up in ver. 1.3.8a cart. It seems to be working, but it takes the customer from the site to PayPal, make payment and then back to the step 2/3 Payment Information page again. Customer has to agree to Terms and conditions again and reconfirm order (second time around) before payment will complete. This is very confusing to have to fill in this page twice. Can anyone tell me - is this the way it's supposed to work or am I missing something? I've had the site down for a while and I'd love to get this sorted out so I can get it back online.

Oh, also payment is for downloadable product. Don't know if that makes any difference.
