Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

Hi,

I have read all the threads on this issues and none seem to relate to me.

I have just installed ZenCart for the first time and have not customised any templates or made any other mods whatsoever. The version I have installed is the current one as dl from this site.

I have now re-tried the install 3 times and the error is the same "There was a security error when trying to login." - logging into the administration section poses no problem therefore I am at a loss to explain this.

I have attached my version info below and applogise if this has been answered but as mentioned all the issues people are having seem to be related to mods or upgrades. With mine it dose this straight after the install.

PS: I have also checked permissions on the Cache Directory and they are 777 if that helps.

Re: Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

Hi and thanks for getting back to me.

I tried clearing the cache and cookies with no result - I have tried to log in a few different browsers also with no luck.

Thanks again and let me know if you have any other ideas!

PS: I did not mention that when I do the install I am told that 'acpi' mode is on and that may cause some problems. I am not sure how to alter this as I can not find the php.ini file on my server (could it be the host wont let me change it??). This may or may not be causing the problem however just in case thought I would include it.

Re: Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

Can you login successfully to either the Catalog or the Admin?

Re: Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

I can log into the admin without any issues however when you talk of the catalogue and excuse my ignorance are you referring logging in as a customer? In which case I can not.

Re: Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

Could you post your two configure.php files, from the server, without your username, databasename and password, from:
/includes/confgure.php
/admin/includes/configure.php

perhaps we can see something different between the two ...

It could also just be the result of bad, missing or otherwise corrupt files on the server, in which case you would need to reload the files via FTP to your site from the clean Download ...

I am not seeing anything obvious on the two files ...

Have you tried to reload via FTP all of the files again?

Re: Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

Hi,

When I installed the software I did it via cpanel, then when that did not work I did it by uploading the software to the server, unzipping etc. Are you suggesting that I unzip locally then upload to the server?
If so will give it a try!

This is really killing me!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

You haven't really done anything at this point, so start from the beginning and Download Zen Cart to your computer, unzip it and upload to your server via FTP ...

Re: Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

Hi,

I think I have the same issue. Please help! I just recently installed zen cart 1.3.8 and is using the cherry zen template. I can access admin, add product and everything seems to be working fine except a few links. The Customer log in, my account, and check out link returns a page can not be displayed. I'm not sure whats going on, or where to look to solve this issue. I think it may have something to do with my database set up. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

I tired unzipping locally and uploading to the server via cuteFTP - all went well although the problem persists.

The only other thing that I can think of that I am using cms made simple for the website (nothing to do with the store as I am not integrating it into the website just letting it run separately accessed via a link). Not sure if that could be the problem but if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it as this is becoming frustrating to say the least! :frusty:

regards.

Re: Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

UPDATE:::

I have still not given up on this.

When change the sessions configuration to file instead of db I can log in as a customer! The joy however ends when you view an item, at this point the session disappears again and the system considers you a guest - this problem also extends to the cart as I can still not add anything to it. This really confuses me as if I can log in as admin why would I not be able to log in as a customer.

Let me know if you have any ideas! My girlfriend will thank you as this problem has consumed me for the last few days! LOL

Regards.

That is beginning to sound like a hosting problems handling sessions. Who is the host?

Hi Kim,

That is what I was thinking also, however I have 5 other accounts with this company (MD Web Hosting) https://www.mdwebhosting.com.au one of which I made a custom cms that uses $_session variables for the admin section and that works fine. I am also assuming that the login for admin uses sessions? And that works! It just dose not seem to make sense! Also CMS made simple runs fine and it also uses $_Session variables!

Thanks again!

As a quick addition: MYSQL Holds the following in its session for me after trying to log in ; I have checked and the cookie in firefox has the same session id.

Re: Can not login as customer or add items to cart.

Closed - No Solution Found

After days of work it just would not work. I tried everything from installing and reinstalling about 10 times, using different templates, changing permissions on just about everything, trying file and db sessions, renaming .htacess, harassing my hosting provider and more. All to no avail - Well to say that would be a lie, i did manage to get to the checkout section but then ZC keep losing the sessions and making the cleint log in again and again.

I am convinced the problem was the mix of MYSQL 5.x and PHP 5.x - something went wrong with the two of them.

Thanks for all your help - I have just installed another cart with no problems and it looks fantastic!

Regards,

Christian.
