change the permissions to 777

Hi Everybody

I'm having a problem changing the permissions to 777. For example, the original numeric value for cache is 755. I have changed it to 777, however, when i reopen the Properties , the numeric value changed back to 755. What should i do ? Thanks very much guys.

How are you changing it? Through FTP, or your control panel? Some hosts don't allow changing permissions via FTP, but you can usually change them through the file manager in your site's control panel.
