Can I use authorize.net?

My client is claiming that Authorize.net won't allow Zen Cart to be used with them and that they want her to pay an annual fee for compliance and compliance testing.

One of authorize.net's employees had replied to her via e-mail that "Zen Cart is not PCI Compliant, so we cannot work with them. There are many PCI Compliant shopping cart providers. I have attached the updated list, direct from Visa and MasterCard's web site"

I can't imagine there aren't people using ZC with authorize.net, i mean thats not true right?

I suggested to my client the SIM or Offsite method you discussed several posts back, because that sounds ideal. No pci compliance issues, right? Can they try to charge you money for pci compliance reviews when you are absolved of responsibility by using the offsite method?

Building the online store was easy but my client is scared of the pci compliance responsibilities, and before that it was the potential chargebacks. Her previous processor, EFSnet, she says stopped providing their service. Any suggestions? she's talked to linkpoint and authorize.net and didnt like paypal, the solution she wanted to use when she had me build the store, because of no chargeback protection.

Thanks for any input.
The web host is Network Solutions, she does not yet have an SSL cert, version number is 1.3.8, all payment modules unaltered, and site is https://www.anothertimevintageapparel.com/cart/

Re: Can I use authorize.net?

I don't know who your client is talking to but we have an AuthorizeNet Certified module and have 1000's of users using AuthorizeNet.

Note - Zen Cart will not work on NetworkSolutions unorthodox SSL

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

And I'm one of them. Been using Authorize.net in combo with ZC for almost a year now and have not had one problem.

Re: Can I use authorize.net?

Maybe some law has changed. I (and some others) who use Linkpoint was charged $119 for what they called an Annual compliance service fee. These companies state they have no annual charges, but that's proving to be wrong!

Re: Can I use authorize.net?

There's no such regulatory 'fee' I'm aware of.

They're ripping you off. I'd guess if you complain loudly enough, they'll refund it.

Re: Can I use authorize.net?

I just called and they said the fee is from Mastercard and Visa and it will be there every year.

Re: Can I use authorize.net?

I don't believe that MC and Visa require them to charge you a fee for compliance. It may be that First Data is charged a fee, and this is the way they pass it along to their customers (with a profit built in, I'm sure). Phone companies have been using that slimy tactic for years, usually calling them 'recovery' fees.

I just checked a few First Data re-sellers websites, and none mention this fee.

I'd be looking for another processor, and ask for all fee information in advance, in writing.
