Cost to Hire Someone??

Hey all,

Sorry if this is the wrong spot or has been repeated but I looked around.
I had a small cart set up on website, friend told me to upgrade to Zen cart and he'd do it for me. Not for free of course.

He says it took him 20-25 hrs to 'configure' the cart to work with Hostpapa.com and copy my text and photos from old site. Screwing with ssl or sql or whatever.

Yet I had to still go in and do shipping zone stuff and change any wording, add more items etc. Anything to do with coupons and such is all me to set up, he did add minimum and max values on those configure pages but

Should it take 25 hrs to upload and configure Zen cart to my server/host? He has used Zencart before so I was not necessarily the testing ground. Keep in mind I sell less than 10 items total.

Having no exp with this kind of stuff, could I do it myself? is the 25 hrs reasonable?

Any heads up would be appreciated.

Re: Cost to Hire Someone??

I ask this question to find out if I should do this on the next site myself and not bother him. He takes a while to do things I request.

thanks all

I'd do it myself regardless. Nothing like having contol over your own business, and if you turn out to be good at it, it could open up a whole new career for you. It's fun, too.

It depends on the rate per hour.

I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

Re: Cost to Hire Someone??

If you didn't have a lot of changes made to the zen cart files but kept it as it is and with so few items I don't think it should have taken him that long. Specially if he has done it before.

You can get someone else to set it up for you and then do all your own everyday running of it. Creating products and viewing orders and all those sorts of things are not hard at all. I have done cart set ups for other people and then showed them how to run it and they don't need me wnymore.

But if you want to change things that require you to go into the files and you don't know what to do, then it would take you a while to get around it.

Enjoy your cart.

Re: Cost to Hire Someone??

Your project seems pretty simple. Do you have a link to original site?

I think you should do it yourself and if you get stuck, just hop on for some help.

I actually made my first cart really quickly. The part that takes the longest was adding all the products and their descriptions.

Here is a Link to a setup I made in like 1 hour. It's just a template skeleton. Didn't add much else yet.

Installing zencart for first time is not easy for beginner.
Also depends how fast you can work and absorb info.
25 hours does seem rather steep, BUT ask yourself how
quickly you could have done it yourself.
Now you have one already done...take a look at how,
and do next one yourself.
