Selling an item when out of stock

Hi

I had two of one item in stock, but I have just had an order for 3 of these items. The admin catalog says I have -1 in stock and it has also turned it red. How can I stop people buying stuff if it is out of stock?

Check your Configuration ... Stock settings ...

Thanks Ajeh, I have changed the allow checkout to false, so this should prevent this from happening again.
