Possible Coupon Bug?

I have 5 coupons that are the same... just a different percentage off different categories... same level categories with nothing under them.

I have made the first coupon and disallowed all but that category... it works.

I have copied this coupon and changed only the one category to be allowed...

I get "not valid on item in your cart." I have verified that in fact the master category for item matches the allowed category on the coupon.

Why is this so inconsistant!?!

Re: Possible Coupon Bug?

Are you using Linked Produts?

If so, is the master_categories_id value higher than the categories_id value of one of the Categories that the product is linked to?

If you add the restrictions based on Products, rather than Categories, does this now work?

Re: Possible Coupon Bug?

Trying to wrap my head around this... our master category is 2 under which we have subcategories (all greater than 2) > sub-subcategories (all greater than 2 some greater than subcategories). Almost all are linked products.

I tried to just only allow the products, but wasn't successful on that front either.

sorry.. ajeh... hope that helps... i need coffee! :)

Re: Possible Coupon Bug?

Right now, when using Linked Products, the easiest way to set this up is to set on the Coupon the Top Level to DENY, then each Product to Allow ...

That should let you use the specific Products with the Discount Coupon ...

Re: Possible Coupon Bug?

The coupon code and the Redemption Code are not unique to the person email. Anybody that gets the code can use it with their Email.
Is there a setting in the Admin area to change this?

If you set the coupon as 1 use per customer, then each person can use a Discount Coupon once if they know the code ...

If you set the coupon as 1 use per coupon, then first person to use the code can use the Discount Coupon ...

There isn't a tie to a Discount Coupon and a "particular customer", at this time ...

You could try to customize the code for that, but it would take quite a bit of work ...

What can I do for gift certificates? I would hate to see a gift certificate be bout for someone else and someone steals the code and uses it.

Re: Possible Coupon Bug?

The redemption codes are just like any Gift Card you buy in a store ...

They are only as safe as the person who possesses them maintains them ...

If you send me a Gift Certificate and I give the GV code to Fred, then Fred can use it, unless I redeem it first ...

At this time, there is no way to force the Gift Certificate to belong exclusively to another person ...

One work around is the Master Password Encrypted add-on where you, the store owner, can send yourself to your own email address a Gift Certificate from the Admin and then login to a specific customer's account and claim the GV code for them ...

NOTE: GVs that are purchased on the site do not use redemption codes and can be queued for your approval on a release to the customer's account ...

GVs that are sent from a customer to someone else can be redeemed by whoever claims that Gift Certificate redemption code first ...

I've just spent the better part of a day reading through this forum and trying to get coupon codes working again that used to work correctly. We issue a 10% coupon (unlimited usage) each month to customers who have placed an order to encourage repeat business. The coupon is valid for almost every product in our store..that's 150 of 175 products.

Yes, we're using Linked products although we do not have layered categories, just products linked to several categories. All products are assigned to a master category that's a letter of the alphabet..A-Z (which are numbered 1-27. #2 is no longer used after rearranging them in trying to fix this problem). Some products are listed in multiple letter categories as well. Then they're also linked to several other categories.

My coupon was set up to deny several categories. Somewhere along the way, it stopped working.

After much trying and testing, it seems that my coupons now only work when I set the category restriction to Top Deny and allow each product. So far I've got A-C done... have probably 90+ more products to go for each coupon.

My first question is, will this quirky coupon bug be fixed?

Second question is, is there a limit to the number of products that can be listed in the restrictions for a coupon?

Thanks for any help,

Jan

Re: Possible Coupon Bug?

More info...

Coupon is Top Deny
I've entered more products in my coupon product restriction list and now when testing the coupon is not calculating correctly.

It's a 10% off coupon on allowed products.
In my cart, I have

$127.97 (products allowed for coupon)
$ 9.99 (products not listed therefore not allowed for coupon)
$ 29.99 (products denied for coupon)
$167.95 total products
$ 7.00 shipping
$174.95 total cart before coupon

Coupon being calculated is $10.00 but should be $12.79 (or 12.80 if it rounds coupon amount).

For kicks, I added the product that was for $9.99 and not in the product list... it's now denied but the coupon calculated is still $10.00. :dontgetit

Boy do I need help,

Re: Possible Coupon Bug?

OK. I had already applied the security patches. Now I'm also caught up on the bug fixes.

We're still receiving the same message for coupons that use category restrictions:
This coupon code is not valid for any product currently in your cart.

In order to try to resolve this problem, here's what I did:

  1. Revised every product in my store to make sure that the category assigned as the master category is the lowest numbered category.

  2. Created new coupons and tried different scenarios.

What we need is a coupon that's allowed for all products in the store except for 3 categories.

I set up an unlimited 10% off coupon.
Category Restrictions: Specials Deny (category is disabled)
Educational - Boosk, CD's DVD's Deny
Assessments Deny
Product Restrictions: none

I had previously tested this and it worked...now it's not working.
Receiving the coupon not valid for products in cart message.

Next in order to simplify the coupon restrictions and to use ideas from other posts, I set up another category (called All Supplements) that includes every product that is allowed to have the coupon. It is also a disabled category.

Created a new unlimited 10% off coupon.
Category Restrictions: Top Deny
All Supplements Allow
Product Restrictions: none

Still receiving the same error message.

I tried this same test with a different category that is not disabled. Still same message.

For another test I created an unlimited 10% off coupon with category restrictions: Top Deny
Product Restrictions: listing each product (153 products so far) Allow
This coupon seems to be working. I can use this in the meantime but it is cumbersome finding products in the list when we have a sale so they can be denied and allowed when the sale is over.

Any other ideas on why the category restrictions are not working?

Thanks for any help,

Jan
